I was considering a potential divergence point in OoTP when the Minister and a group of Aurors attempt to arrest Dumbledore in Hogwarts.

Dumbledore fights his way out with formidable honor. The book never said where he went from there, but I would assume that he goes straight to an Order safehouse, or his own mansion, or some location. En route however, he is immediately ambushed by let's say ~twenty Death Eaters led by Voldemort, and is overwhelmed and killed.

It could even be a conspiracy between the Ministry and Voldemort, Fudge drives out Dumbledore, straight into the path of the Death Eaters, and the most powerful opponent of the Dark Lord is gone.

I was wondering how this would impact the storyline. Obviously he would have been unable to arrive to Harry's aid. Basically, I'm trying to make the Department of Mysteries skirmish the divergence point into something different.

I'm hoping for something more original than Harry being captured by Voldemort. My current thought is that Harry is flayed within an inch of his life, and is thrown through the Veil.

There, a number of things can happen. The question is what. My idea is that Harry meets The Darkness, the Devil's Teacher from the comic series and the game for the PS3. It lurks behind the Veil, and kills everyone thrown through it. Metaphysically it stays in the castle seen in the game, where the person thrown through the Veil arrives, and wanders around until he is killed. whereupon he joins the undead wandering around. However, when Harry arrives, it recognizes the Prophecy, and as everything is obliged to faciliate the fulfilling of Fate, decides to make Harry the Bearer so that Harry has to chance to kill Voldemort or be killed by him.

It reconstructs Harry's body. What I'm imagining next is that Harry stalks back out of the Veil, with a bunch of foul-mouthed imps at his back, and massacring the majority of the Death Eaters in the Department, and forcing Voldemort to flee.

Voldemort replenishes his ranks through his influence with the Ministry, so that the war can continue.

I recognize that the Darkness is herediterary, that is, it is passed down from father to son. However, it lies dormant, and during the waiting period of the transfer from Jackie Estacado's father to Jackie, it is forced by the obligations of Fate to transfer to the Potter line.

A minor point is that if Harry has children, he dies and they inherit The Darkness.

However, he can construct sentient beings with The Darkness, including infertile women completely obedient to him...

As long as it's based it off the comics and not the game, I'd read it. The game pissed me off. Unhappy endings FTL.

If you don't stop writing just 2-3 chapters per story then just move right on to the next plot bunny, then I think that people might eventually get fed up and stop reading. I think you're a good author, but you really need to complete some works.

I'm not writing the story. I simply thought of a plot device, and wanted to see where it would lead.

I am of course trying, but trying isn't quite enough to get enough time to write another chapter. It's frustrating even on the writer's end, if not more so. When the enthusiasm returns and the flow of words resumes, it's a fairly precious thing, regardless of what idea inspired it.

I like the idea. A Harry with the Darkness can be an epic story where Harry spirals slowly down into darkness it tempts him bit by bit. Plus Darklings. Who doesn't like those guys?

The main thing is that Dumbledore's death working in conjunction with the Veil is versatile as well as iron-clad.

There's that artistic element. The reader thinks "This writer knows his cunning!Voldemort" and reads on in hope for more.

And it's the concept itself. Dumbledore dies, is unable to come to Harry's rescue, and Harry gets thrown into the Veil, and whatever is thought of can be implemented. It's not subjective. Anyone that read Order of the Phoenix will probably agree that if it were not for Dumbledore, Harry would get his ass kicked.

Voldemort might throw Harry into the Veil, and an author could circumvent the "Voldemort-wouldn't-do-that" by having Voldemort do so my morbid curiosity, to see if Harry will emerge again, and in what form. He also doesn't know the prophecy yet.

That leads to something else. The prophecy doesn't get revealed (by Dumbledore at least), so Harry could make the same mistake, and lead to a bunch of insaneness.
Some character from Dragon Lance, any other trilogy, obscure or otherwise, could restore Harry to life after being tossed headfirst through the Veil. Basically, it's a pretty solid way to begin a crossover.

Close. But I think it's more along the lines of:
If not for Dumbledore/Fawkes and Sorting Hat/Time Travel/Fucked up wands/Dumbledore again/Dumbledore again/Voldemort's arrogance, then Harry would get his ass kicked.

That being said, I really like the idea, and I'll join the line that says 'hope someone else picks it up'

Wouldn't anyone of fifteen years of age?

And anyways, my main peeve with this little bunny is that you are giving Dumbledore an ignoble death. Apparation, one second Portkey...etc etc: There are various means left to his disposal. He is, after all, the same man who fucked Voldemort by just dying.

    So, meh.

Indeed, any fifteen year-old would get his ass kicked.

I don't think so, unless having Dumbledore mobbed by every Death Eater at Voldemort's disposal, and by Voldemort himself, in a scenario created by nothing less than a coalition between both sides of the war is ignoble. If it is, welll...

Somebody has to recieve the Angelus. Not only would it be fun to write, it also gives an eternal antagonist.
