I'll be as brief as possible.

This evening I received an email stating that a gmail account had been opened in the name notjbern@gmail.com. Whoever had opened the account used my jbern@fanficauthors.net as a redirect when opening the account so the message was sent to that account which forwards it to my home account.

As someone could have used such an account to send spam or pornographic materials and the replies would have been forwarded back to my account, as well as if a complaint was launched against materials emmanating from that site they would come to me first for some kind of explanation. Additionally, Jeconais might be affected as the operator of the fanficauthors.net website.

I reset the password and the security question on that account. I followed it along to fanfiction.net and found that someone had opened an account using this address and posted a story using that name. I deleted the story as it was something not written by myself.

Since ultimately any responses going to that account would end up in my email it can be construed that this constitutes a form of impersonation.

    From Googles account help pages.

If you believe someone has created a Gmail account in an attempt to impersonate your identity, you may wish to file a report with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov), a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National White Collar Crime Center.

In addition, we recommend contacting your state's Office of Consumer Protection.

Gmail is unable to participate in mediations involving third parties regarding impersonation. To read the Gmail Terms of Use, please visit: http://gmail.google.com/gmail/help/terms_of_use.html.

I'm going to sleep on it tonight before deciding if I'd like to file a criminal complaint. At the moment, I'm willing to let this joke slide. We can play silly flame games here, but if someone wants to step off this site I can get serious in a heartbeat.

...What the fuck? Someone is really, really bored.

Can someone please find out if the story is posted elsewhere. Without a link, this thread is being trashed.

Jbern, honestly, lol. You just made my day.

Luckily I was able to aim my head away from my computer before I spewed out soda laughing.

    Internets are serious business, imo.

I remembered reading it back in December when Ferrovax/Surrarin/Jon first posted it. Not sure if he had a mod/admin delete the thread but I don't see it anymore.

Luckily google-cache came through to remind me I wasn't crazy:

I arbitrarily decide whether it deserves a 3 or 4. In this case, it was worth a 3, because it's just annoying me. Also, why can't I rate something between a 3 and 4. It doesnt deserve an average, because it is entertaining, but it wasn't particularly good.

Jbern's not pressing charges? What's that, like the third person to use the sue card against me?

    You're in good company.

Of course, you just can't forget Ginny Potter or FanFictionAuthors.net as entities that have tried to even get my Internet Service Provider involved only to realize I use proxies XD.

Wonder what he'll threaten me with when he starts getting calls from people who're looking for a good time.

This fic failed to give me any chuckles whatsoever.

    2/5

It got a 2 instead of a 1 simply because I laughed at whoever did this and the fact that they wasted the time to do so. Whoever did this seriously needs to find something better to do with their time.

Looks like the fic has been deleted by the mods at fanfiction.net.

If you don't sue, I'll lose the respect I have for you.

Story was ok, nothing brilliant but not bad either.
