So guys, recently the AC adapter of my laptop went nuts. Seriously, not only it doesn't work, but it beeps if I plug it in the power. Since I have this year finals starting in 2 days, and using my computer to check facts and run simulations is a life saver, I decided to go ahead and buy a generic one from a nearby store(It's the only place I could find one, and it doesn't sell an original HP one).

After I checked the nominal voltage, current and power it gives me(which are the same to my old one) I asked the store guy to plug it on my laptop and see what happens. The little light near the conector went on, after I started the computer the usual charging/pluged in animations indicated that everything was fine, so I went ahead and bought it, they brought me a new one from storage and I went happily home.

Once I arrived and went to start the computer I noticed the conector light didn't go up, and trying it out anyway the computer turned on(without the battery) and worked as usual, but without anything displaying the damn thing was connect to the power. Putting the battery on(and the battery has seen better days, barely lasting 20mins now) it charges up, but without any indication of the ac adapter working.

So, tl;dr: It works, even if windows 8 is doing it's job of not recognizing the adapter. To be in the safe side, I'll go back to the store and ask them to change to one it recognizes as soon as possible(which is in wednesday) but the seed of doubt has already been planted. Once my finals are over I'll go home and buy an original HP ac adapter, but this one is all I have going until december.

I also tested the computer by playing a game(Guildwars2) which really uses all my laptop has to give, and the game ran as usual.

My question is, do you guys think this whole mess will literally blown up in my face by then?

Ps.: Nice little video of someone trying to blow up their laptop battery by messing up with it here.

    Any help would be appreciated

You're more likely to find the answer in a forum that specialises in notebooks. I've had a lot of success with http://forum.notebookreview.com/ for my Asus gaming laptop. The HP/Compaq subforums seem to be very well represented.

Find the subforum for your brand and type of notebook, read through the FAQs and stickies to find quick links to numerous handy threads for your model. If you can't find your question already answered, then post your question.

Alternatively, find a brick and mortar notebook repair shop. Go in and ask one of their techs. They might not deal with HP gear specifically, but they probably have a better idea than you or me.
