that one was pretty good at the beginning but now I'm not so sure I'm kind of neutral leaning to not liking it because of the constant outmanipulations and as I believe I put it in my review for the latest chapter 'The continual kicking of Harry in the balls while he is down already.) At the beginning Harry is this uber badass now he's a whiny bitch taking averything thrown at him.

just because of the relatively new ideas (discluding the James lily alive + sibling thought to be BWL.) If he updates it would be better.

 

I'm going to check out the latter two in a bit, but on Darkness/Void, I feel the same way as with the fic this thread is about. It seems dark but lightsided fics usually take that direction of having a very inconsistant Harry. But then again, people in real life can be very inconsistant. I don't know whether to be pissed at the author, or at people in general.

I don't think either are too far gone yet, and they have some pretty cool ideas. I think Harry's reaction to the arranged marriage will be the deciding factor with me on Void. If he stands up for himself and gets out from under Albus's thumb finally, and asserts himself, I think the fic will recover from its rough patches. But then again, you never can tell with fanfic writers. If they want a hero who redeems himself in the end, it won't matter how they write the rest, or if the progression makes sense, the hero will redeem himself.

 

That's pretty much my oppinion as well. I did however inform the author of darkness/void of my preference of how to deal with it and some ideas of how to get harry to stand up for himself as well, in a review . . .we will see if he bites I guess

 

I (tried to) read those two fics... out of respect for an author who isn't here to defend themselves (I assume), I will refrain from commenting on them. I will only say that it is my opinion that if you want anything remotely Japanese in your fic, you shouldn't be writing a HP fic. Harry weilding a katana is just wrong.

 

I don't mind Harry with a Katana. Its not that bad IMHO :?

Story Updated

 

As a brit in the early 90's, the chances he would even know what a katana is at his age is tiny. Being a anime geek wasnt so popular back then, and Harry's character never has, in canon or the fics in question, believable access to any Asian culture, much less Japanese specifically. If Harry was weilding any various geographically British weapons, I'd have no beef (with that aspect). The problem is, its too obvious that Harry is only weilding a katana because the writer wishes he was. Self insertion only works well when the reader doesn't notice it. Just my opinion.

Agree.... I remember reading tons of Harry having state of the art technology that are low profile or was not even invented in the early 90's... Harry getting a PS2 is the one I hate the most; I cannot imagine him playing video games...

Ah i remember the 90's clearly... Back in the days when the Backstreet Boys were popular and would annoy me to no end with their gay songs... When Micheal Jackson molested Macaulay Culkin... When slutty fashion became much more popular; I am not the one to complain...

 

I try not to be too judgmental, but generally I call those people lousy authors. At least, in my head. I can't understand why anyone would take the time to write fanfiction or any fiction for that matter, and not bother researching anything. I find research more fun than the actual writing, personally. I've learned lots of interesting stuff, from slang to when cable television was introduced in Britain to the proper way to make tea. All thanks to HP...

i read this story a while back and i found it interesting.It has not been updates in a while.

 

The fiction has a good starting point and harry is very developed character. too bad it's abandon.
