Okay one shot, I thought. I'd spent the last few moments wondering if I should post it here or In Almost Recommendable. In my defense I've had more than a few drinks. >_>

In that thing you call a closet. Better watch out,
It isn't good, but for its genre it can be somewhat enjoyable. I half expected them to start reciting Beatles lyrics, though. >_>

Quick, somewhat enjoyable. Lacks the punch necessary to make a great, but then again, with this type of one-shot, I was never expecting it. Not bad, but not very good either.

    3/5.

Nothing great, but above average as far as one shots go. However, I'm giving it a 3/5 just because the angst was a bit much, and Harry was a bit too Snape like (snape like is ok... the constant comparison is not).

I dunno, I liked this. I thought that it was a nice change from all those ceaseless Alt!Harry stories where he goes to meet his family and they get along a-okay without actually dealing with the fact that he's from a different dimension and had a crap life so far.

I thought the attempted suicide thing was kind of fail, but I did like the way James dealt with it.

3.5/5 rounded up to 4/5 for rating purposes.

I read this one before and it was rather good. However I do as a rule enjoy these character studies from another characters perspective so it may just be me. 4/5

This is one of those fics where I like the idea and potential more than the way the author actually handled it. I can see someone writing this idea in a way that I'd love and be impressed by, but this felt unsatisfying. Most of the comments felt like I should have an emotional response to them, but for the most part I didn't.

Somewhere between 2 and 3 out of 5. Right now, I'm inclined to round down.

It was an adequate idea that could've been executed better, but most ideas of the all genres can be. I enjoyed how this Harry existed, but didn't seem to fit in the puzzle of the dimension, rather than the immediate bonding of all Potters across reality. Suicidal angst wasn't exactly necessary, but that along with the mentioning of the Dursley-parenting was handled carefully, without giving too much to emotion.

Base 3/5. Good, but it felt as if it lacked an ending event. Though I supposed that's what it meant to achieve.

4/5 only because it wasn't longer. It was however, well handled. I liked the idea of Harry not being able to adjust despite his perseverence. That he holds back from Dumbledore and the others is quite awesome. I want more like this. Think the author will consider giving us more like in a story than a oneshot?

I dunno, I'm halfway through and I keep getting pissed that he's calling it Adava when it's Avada. Sometimes I'm such a canon Nazi I disgust myself.

Edit: Having read this piece, I find myself content. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am disappointed it was just a one-shot. I approve.

That being said, NEW DRINK I FOUNDED! :D The Avada Kedavra!

It only counts if the drink is green....IS IT?!

The story was alright; I have lower expectations than most of the crowd, so I gave it a 4.

Silverlasso's thread prompted me to have a look at this again, because I remember I liked it a lot the first time - and it probably doesn't get the appreciation it deserves if it's in the Recycle Bin.

I understand the things people might not like about this: there's no real plot (focusing solely on character interaction), it's written from James's point of view, in the present tense, and it has a bit of an angsty feel. It's also very short, sometimes feeling like a summary of the fic it should be, when it skips weeks (or months?) in a couple of lines.

But here's the thing: I really wanted to read more, but didn't feel that it was unfinished. For me, it's a piece on characterisation that every fic in the genre should be based on. The grasp of character psychology and interaction is about as good as anything I've seen out there. I personally have no tolerance for angst, but I don't consider this to be that either. Harry is both scarred and strong, not a weak boy wallowing in self-pity. And it doesn't abuse the characters, inspiring empathy for each of them.

Should have been more. 4.5/5 as it is, rounded up.

Not nearly as good as this author's other fic, but one of the better ones in this genre IMO. Which doesn't say as much as it should, but beggers can't be choosers.

The angst on Harry's part was perhaps a bit much, but everyone else was well portrayed.

The bit about Neville in the Triwizard, and him not being Draco 2.0 was a nice touch as well.

The fact that I've read this one-shot more than once has to indicate that Mira Mirth did something right.

    4/5

The story was average at best. I like her other story a lot more than this. It was the lack of a good plot in the one-shot that didn't sit well with me. I've seen the same thing done before a lot of times. The angst was bit much and felt unnecessary at times.

The story felt quite bland too me. Harry goes to a different dimension where his parents are alive and everyone mostly accepts him. There is virtually no change or impact from the dimension traveling, which I felt was the most disappointing factor. The writing was good though.

    I'd rate this as 3/5.

    Edit:
My mistake, gave it a 2 rating, when I intended for a 3.

Short, but intriguing. I found the characterization spot-on, and the angst quite appropriate considering the circumstances.

Pretty bland story, as Johnny said. I don't approve of substituting angst for actual conflict.

Well written, well paced. But if an author is going to present a Harry characterization that's that crushingly angsty/emo, I prefer that she paints the story of Harry's original universe with a bit more detail. I'm not asking for a whole novel length fic or essay about it - just a few elegant little clues as to what diverged between original Harry (battered, but still proud and hopeful) and this Harry (beaten down so far that he didn't see any purpose for himself after the war was over).

3.5 out of 5, which I suppose would round up to 4 for the sake of votey-thingies.
