Im not looking for a story in particular, but rather some recommendations for this genre?

I'm trying to find a story that does a great job at portraying a very in depth magical society and culture. Something that goes beyond Howarts and diagon alley.

It feels boring to me that magic can be made to accomplish almost any feat, wether cannon or fandom, but it rarely seems to stretch past that of hogwarts, diagon alley, and 80% fighting based magic.

And something that hopefully breaks away from magical communities being so backwards technology wise. We have known cannon spells to warp time and space, bring death, torture, control minds, but we have to use a candle for light in shops? With so many fics portraying how muggles will soon advance past them and be the greatest threat. I'd really love to see something where with the enormous advantage of physics defying magic wizarding culture has actually far surpassed muggle technology.

Something that feels more alive, moving, relevant. Where's the private sectors? Where's the innovation. Does every person work at the ministry of magic, and any cool obscure magic ever invented have to come from the dept of mysteries?

Would love some recommendations for a good read, thanks.

 

Lords of Magic and Wit of the Raven are all I can think of off the top of my head. Neither are finished, sadly.

"After the End" comes to my mind, a 632k story written by Zsenya and Arabella (post GoF) portraying the life of magical Britain and H/G Hr/R after the final battle. No Horcruxes, Sirius alive, etc.

It's not so much focussing on technical aspects but social aspects, basically on how to deal with the outcome and the aftereffects of the war and its impacts on magical Britain.
