Been thinking of buying a new computer for a while and there is a 50% sale on HP laptops here.
    http://www.graysonline.com/retail/b...5tx-17-3-inch-argento-blush-notebook?spr=true

This is the one that i think suits me best, but I am no computer expert. What I wish to know is.

Is this a solid computer? E.G It does not have a big flaw which I do not see.

Are parts of this computer about to be made redundant?

Also anyone who has used this website before, what did you think of it? I have no experience buying things online and am rather nervous about being ripped off. Or having problems with this product.

It really depends on what you're going to do with the computer.

So, how about you first tell us what you want to do with the Computer. Do you want to play new games on high settings, or just office work?

Next, do you want a notebook, like the one in your link, or a desktop? While you are mobile with a notebook, desktops have usually more performance and you can easily change or add components. Desktops are also easier to clean, in most cases.

To the notebook itself, I can't see anything wrong except that it doesn't have full HD, which makes no sense to me, since it has a Blu-Ray drive. The Graphic card, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6570, is just a renamed HD 5730, so you can play games like Bad Company 2 on mid to high details. The 2 TB space are most likely on two HDD's, oh and you will have much crap pre-installed.

And in case you haven't heard, HP stops selling computers, which could affect warranty and/or support.

tl;dr So, how about you give us some more information first?

As others have said, what do you want out of your laptop? (or computer, if you actually want one of those).

A desktop replacement laptop? (has the advantage of being transportable over a standard desktop)
A super-portable laptop? (you can use it for 4-5 hours ++ on a single charge)
    Somewhere inbetween?
Do you actually want a desktop?

How important is build quality? Are you gonna be playing games (what games?)? All sorts of things are really good to know if we're gonna be giving you effective help.

My first impression is that 1.2k is too much to pay for a laptop unless you truly need a high-end multimedia machine now for something like competitive gaming. Just because you are capable of spending that much doesn't make it the best choice.

I have no experience with that website.

I agree with everyone else who said that you need to tell us what you intend to be doing with the laptop.

Tarquinn, are you Australian? Your forum profile doesn't say.

Grays Online is a famous auction house in Australia. All prices you are seeing are in AUD. Any warranties, etc. will be for Australia unless they're specifically labeled as "international warranties". Shipping will be from Australia. Etc. etc.

Gray's is reliable, just remember that they're like any auction house. Some products will be "as is" and others will be expected to meet certain levels of quality and condition. Check the product page for that info. I have friends who regularly buy wine from Gray's and have it shipped it to the remote reaches of the north-western coast of Australia without trouble, so the site is definitely legit.

So far as I'm aware, Gray's are not like eBay which allows anyone to sell products from home on their website. Gray's seem to be more like a traditional auction house. The goods you're buying [or bidding on] are stored in Gray's warehouses and they'll ship them to you directly when you pay for them. It makes things easier than dealing with dodgy new sellers on eBay who'll ship you a box with a brick in it.

Because it's an auction house, you can't assume that products are brand new straight from the manufacturer. The same is true for the laptop you're looking at. Click the "Warranty & Condition" tab to read more about that. The laptop is new... sort of. It's not a refurb though, which is good.

All of this information is pretty clearly displayed on the Gray's website. If you read it carefully and inspect the information attached to the product you'd have answered some of your own questions.
