I think the thing is though, we're trying to make it difficult, and picking the slightly less mainstream characters. Although I am surprised at how close (visually) the first guess normally is, even if it is wrong.

 

It couldn't get Diziet Sma from Use of Weapons, or Zakalwe from the same.

EDIT: though it did get Earl Hickey...

EDIT 2: And Dresden, after getting it wrong the first time. Fuck, when not using vaguely obscure novels, this thing is frightening.

 

Fuck the think is quite good. Guessed Ezio after 13 guess, and Eric Northman after 12. Oh course they're not exactly obscure characters. Hell, it even figured out Jeremy Clarkson. It seemed to ask the exact right questions. -is he english? - is he over 50? -Is he tall? -Does he have short hair? -Does he work with cars? It figured out the stig even easier, in 7 questions, but the 'Does the character talk?' gave it away pretty quick. It also found Diablo pretty quick, it went from 'is your character found in the Warcraft series?' to naming Diablo next. It even found Glissa Sunseeker after about 50 questions.

 

Is it just me, or do you often get repeated questions? specifically on gender.

 

Yeah I've seen a lot of repeated questions.

The last one I did, it took around 90 guesses to figure out Nicodemus, and it asked three or four times if the character was female.

 

Are you really, really sure they are female?

Speaking of Diablo, I wonder if it could pick up on a character like Geglash. Natalya also served no actual purpose, but she at least had a set named after her. Maybe Gharbad the Weak, hah.

I think I'll try some obscure characters from a few things myself.

Completely stumped him after 60-someodd questions, and was brought to the related characters list, and ended up adding to his archive with the character York Neely/Kannagi Yuuto from Cross Edge. His first early guess was Nico from GTA IV, then once claimed it was my made up character, and another time it was a fantasy of mine, besides the several other wrong guesses.
Of course confirming my character wasn't female three times then asking if they were male, was amusing. That, and asking if they had hair, after a confirmed unusual(red/green/blue/etc.) hair color, then red specifically.

Now for my next attempt...

Last one for now, and rather unsurprisingly, after 61 questions he couldn't get Khelevaster, the dying sage, from ADoM(Ancient Domains of Mystery). He got sort of close with Deckard Cain on his third guess.

 

I definitely fucked up in my answers (couldn't remember if it was male or female), but it did not guess the Basilisk from HP. It guessed Nagini twice, and Cthulu, Medusa, a Cerberus, and the shark from Finding Nemo once each.

Eventually gave me a list and asked if it was on it (which included Pansy Parkinson, Aragog, and Kreacher, but also bizarrely included Will Smith, Avraam Russo, and Chris Farlowe). It wasn't.

Edit: Just went back and tried it again. Got it in 15 questions.

 

I remember the Vader one that someone did on eBaumsworld a few years back. It was crap to begin with - there were no answers at all.

You got two questions - what gender are they? Are they real?

Then, as more and more people did it and put in more and more results, as well as keywords that could be used to describe the result, it got better and better. Eventually, it was just a twentyQ thing, but it got the right answer by Q20 about 19/20 times.

Okay this is almost a little creepy how good this thing is when I don't use incredibly obscure stuff, I can't see any real way these questions should add up to tell him exactly who I'm thinking of but so far he's nailed all of them.
