I searched for this and didn't find it so I assume that this hasn't been discovered by you guys yet.

As to the writing, well, I've seen a lot worse, but generally, it's quite average. The story starts with: "It was a sunny day. The sky was the perfect shade of blue, a few puffy white clouds dotted the expanse, and a cool, spring breeze was blowing. It was the perfect kind of day."

It's an interesting read, but it's not without faults. Pansy seems a little unrealistic (personality wise) at the beginning, although I do realise the need of it in the plot. I realise how difficult it must have been to write a suicidal character if you don't have any real life experiences. I might like this for the general emotion in it, but others might find it unappealing since it's, first of all, romance, and, second of all, slightly angsty. The angst might have been sugarcoated a bit, but you can still definitely see it. I'd give it a 3.5/5.

You just quoted me perfectly when I reached that part. I was like, "what the fuck is going on... no, seriously." That point was the worst part of the story.

You can so tell that whoever was writing it saw the ST: Borg movie and then watched Matrix 2/3 then said, "Fuck it, I'm writing a HP story. Screw all the naysayers."

Without wishing to be rude: why are you on DLP?

I'm actually genuinely curious. Your fic preferences seem to be the complete opposite to the kind of fics we have in our library. Draco/Hermione, slash, angst and hurt/comfort.

Never have I seen this kind of qualifier but that the next part of the statement does exactly that.

"I don't mean to insult you, but [insert insulting remark]."

"I'm not trying to piss you off, but [insert jerk-ass comment]."

My favorite, though, is the one I've heard countless times from my wife. When she starts a sentence by saying, "With all due respect," I know without doubt that I am about to hear something completely devoid of respect. She may as well replace that qualifier with something like, "I'm about to eviscerate you and nuke your over-inflated ego."

On topic: I'm also curious as to why you're here, Silver Cat. If this is the kind of story that generally rings your bell, far be it from me to tell you otherwise. Yet, reccing them here is likely to cause you nothing but grief as the majority of DLP has little to no interest in slash or Draco/Hermione.

And it occurs to me that as little interest as I have in reading a story with a slash main pairing, I'm even less inclined to read anything that involves Draco/Hermione.

I have made some terrific blunders in my life but that is not one of them. If she asks me whether some outfit is okay to wear to school or not (she's a HS teacher) I'll give my honest opinion, otherwise my only answer is, "Looks good."

I've never met a woman who wants my actual opinion of her clothes, they just want some reassurance about whatever they already picked out.

Since when has that been a military specific term? Just a person speaking to someone usually considered their superior in some aspect.

    Title: Headmaster Tom Riddle
    Author: Kwan Li
    Rating: M
    Genre: Suspense/Mystery
    Status: WIP
Pairings: None so far, looks like Harry/Hermione
Summary: AU. Dumbledore is tricked into giving Riddle a position at Hogwarts when he first asks. Hogwarts, now a non-Muggleborn school, is taught a bit differently. But Harry will find there is a threat on the horizon. His name is Lord Voldemort.
    Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7361964/1/Headmaster_Tom_Riddle

The idea is that Voldemort offered the hallows to Dumbledore in order to take control of Hogwarts. Years later, Muggleborns go to a diferent school and Hogwarts students are forbidden from ever interacting with them. There's a bit of mistery about the motivations of the recent Death Eathers moviment as Harry discovers the girl he met while sneaking to Hogsmeade might have some relation to them.

Why do so many HP fanfic writers think you can't pair Harry/Pansy without also pairing Draco/Hermione?

Aside from- NO! NOOOOOO! No. Fuck that shit!

Er... sorry. Aside from the fact that Hermione wouldn't touch his sorry ass with a ten-foot pole, this just plain isn't logical. It's not like Harry ended up with Hermione in canon, nor did Draco end up with Pansy. Thus, pairing Harry with Pansy doesn't leave Draco high and dry (as if I give a shit), nor does it leave Hermione without a significant other, which removes the most obvious reason to shoehorn one pairing in with the other. As if everyone has to get paired off, anyway.

So why do people keep doing it?

Hell, if you're trying so hard to make sure no one's left alone, where does this shit leave Ginny and Ron? Boning each other in the deepest, darkest, hollows of Appalachia, that's where!

Anyway, I'm not sure what the bigger offense here is: That these people keep pairing Draco and Hermione, or that most of these supposed Harry/Pansy stories are actually Dramione with the HP/Pansy content being the barest sliver of an afterthought.

Oh, wait... the answer is that the bigger offense is the fuckholes who list a story as Harry/Pansy, when it's actually Harry/Draco, and Pansy's just there to play matchmaker or some shit. What the fuck?

Maybe people who complain about a certain person's involvement at the end of White Knight, Grey Queen should consider how bad things really could have been. :|

In both a futuristic D20 Modern game, and a story I was writing, there was a huge, manned, very sub-orbital satellite/law enforcement barracks/long range weapons platform that hovered over the city the characters were in, monitoring the inhabitants. What did the locals call the satellite? Mungo City. :p

Yeah... I guess I heard it one time too many.

Naming your story after a song is, generally speaking, lazy and trite, and if you do it you should probably be ashamed. Obviously, if it's part of a more involved gimmick (like with Bungle in The Jungle and Turn Me Loose), that's a different matter.

I'll quote a few lines from a song or other work at the beginning of a chapter, as an epigraph, and I might even be inclined to mention a particular song I listened to a lot while writing a chapter, but naming your story after a song is, in general, silly.

Interesting concept. The writing is nothing special, but it's worth a read.

Actually I'm curious about the whole naming stories after songs thing as I'm planning on naming one of my stories after Bad Religion's Whisper in Time and I don't get what's so bad about it. Supposedly it's uncreative, but it's one story in a series of about 22, so is it really an issue?

Just remember the overriding rule about clichés, gimmicks, and other inadvisable things in fanfic...
If your story is good enough, you can break pretty much any rule you want, and actually get away with it.
    If it's good enough.

It's not really naming them after a song that's my issue, is that when you name the fic after a song by Evanescence. Especially one named Bring me to Life. You just know that it's going to be one massive emo fest.

I've named a lot of fics and chapters after song and album titles, although it's mostly obscure stuff. It's when you start to incorporate lyrics and shit in the actual story when it becomes stupid, even worse when its by shitty bands like fallout boy, greenday, whatever'band'ispopularthismonth, etc

Mid-test is over today, I have plenty of time to waste, so I browsed the FFn looking for some good HP fics to read. Several hours ago, I found this short one-shot horror fic. It's non-Harry centric, and filled with, mostly, descriptions and narrations. At first I just want to dismiss it, but the author is the one who also wrote Lessons with Hagrid - so I think it's worth a time. And yes, it's worth it. This story is well-written and thought provoking. 3/5, as a short horror story, I think. Worth reading.

Reading Professor Sprout 'kills' using large chopping knife while she's humming happily makes me kinda sick... the author visualizes the scenes very well. Really provoking

A very interesting HP/LOTR crossover I found while browsing ff.net:

    Chapter 1 on ff.net

The technical writing is good, the crossover was done in an acceptable way and the ideas used are as new and innovative as possible in this genre. If you want to witness Severus Snape fighting a mind magic duel against Saruman or being considered an imposter for the throne of Gondor... you should give this story a try.

    4/5
