Yeah, the first four chapters or so are sub-par. It gets better.

I agree with Taure's review, and I just wanted to add that if anyone is looking for a light, good-natured fic, this is it. The lack of bashing & hate in this story is so refreshing, though as Taure said, the tropes can be a bit much. If you can deal with some cringe-worthy moments, this has a pretty good update rate, and is shaping up to be interesting.

After finishing what's there of Healer's Hands, I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. Indeed, there were half a dozen times when I had the urge to facepalm, but in the whole scope of the story these moments are minor and I found them fairly easy to ignore after I'd read on.

That said, the pacing has been quite slow for a significant amount of what's written, without the character development needed to keep things interesting (however, I must admit I like how Susan and Padma have been written for what little we have; Cho not as much - she's quite different - but still alright). The author covers a lot of things that ultimately have no difference despite the changes which take up large parts of chapters and could be easily skipped over. We know the story of GoF, and thus we don't need to have the World Cup match with slightly different interactions, or the aftermath in the Weasley household which barely changed at all. For the most part, I like the writing style, but there are a lot of moments I think little things could've been done/written a lot better.

All in all, I can't bring myself to give it more than a 3 at the moment. However, looks like the most interesting part of the story is about to begin.

Harry Potter and the Road to Corruption by Zheta

'Slytherin', this one word set in motion events that would lead Harry Potter to great things with a little help from a pureblood princess and a half-blood prodigy. Yet another Harry in Slytherin fic. Not a Dark!Harry fic. Eventual infidelity.

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6772406/1/Harry_Potter_and_the_Road_to_Corruption

I found this in my annual trawl for Harry/Daphne. Nothing I would even think about putting in the library, but I think it's in the 2.5-3/5 range.

The mention of eventual infidelity is different. From the way the story's going, it sounds like either Harry's going to be nailing both Tracy and Daphne at the same time without the other knowing about it, or he's going to be doing Mrs. Davis. Either works.

Been reading that. The -- well, "high point" would be somewhat too glorious, given that it should be common sense (except it isn't, in most redo-fics), so let's go with "thing to note" -- is that with the exception of the Forest scene, the author doesn't try to force the Canon plot into places where it has no business being.

Harry is different, so he Remembrall scene plays out differently. He's got no reason to be anywhere near the toilets, so there's no Troll scene. Etc. After reading over 9000 "Harry is different" shitfics that still end up playing out exactly like the PS-plot for Canon!Harry, justified with in-story-reasons that range from contrived to straight-up non-existent, this was surprisingly refreshing.

Other than that, it's your average redo -- with the potential all of those stories have. Depends on what original ideas the author's got. It can literally go anywhere (including down the drain), there's no way to tell yet.

Found this a few days ago, but stopped reading during the casual mention of Tracy performing wandless magic prior to Hogwarts. It felt way to much like a Mary Sue self insert to me at the time. It gets better after that?

I quit at that point, too. I tried to read it again when I saw it here, but it just didn't hold my interest.

    It's two words. :facepalm

Do yourself a favor and at least hang in there until Ron's first dream sequence. :awesome

"Harry, I had that dream again." Ron said as he erected what could only be called a silo of pancakes.

"The one with the talking purple elephant?" Harry asked.

"Minister Peppermint, yeah. He was there again, and I was the King of Ice Cream." His eyes shimmered with emotion. "You know, if Peppermint ran for minister, I reckon I'd vote for him, elephant or not." He said wistfully.

The spider scene is better. In fact, the spider scene is the best parody scene I've ever read.

Road to Corruption is terrible. Unreadable, I'd say. Harry was visibly shaking because another person could do a spell he couldnt? Jesus. And the whole thing is just packed with cliche after cliche. None of them are given an original twist. The most entertaining parts of the story are the author's notes.

Yeah, I stopped reading after the transfiguration scene in chapter 1. It was just plain bad. The possibility of player!harry in the future doesn't really make up for it.

Hm, thanks for the comments. I'm wondering though, if anyone can point out a good place to look up far-too-common HP fanfic tropes? Sort of a guide to help me avoid the usual tropes.
Something like the Potter Laws, perhaps?

    Thanks a lot.

Just use common sense. It one thing to use an idea because its important to the story, but its another thing to use an idea just for the sake of using it. Just think about it. Does giving harry 1 billion galleons add anything to the story at all? Never.

There is an allure to tropes. When they are done right, in a new and interesting way, they can be brilliant. Thats why some of our DLPers stories are so highly praised, despite being predictable.

On the other hand, all because you have seen an idea in another story, does not mean you have to use the same idea. There is no point in writing a story if that story has already be written.

The Rebel and the Chosen has been updated again; I gotta admit, it's a bit of an angst-fest , but it's gone up from being a 'decent time-killer' to a 'good time-killer' in my books.

Yeah, it does seem to be toeing back and forth across that line. The only problem I have with it is Molly's apparent heavy-handedness. It feels like her character is being exaggerated just a bit too much.

Yeah, this. I wondered -- what in Canon indicates that Molly would react that way? At this point, I'm not even sure how much of it is recycled Fanon trope and how much is based on actual traits we are given in Canon.

That aside, I didn't mind that angst, as long as it isn't dragged out. Clear it up through the next chapter, and everything's alright. Also, I want to see Tonks not caring about what others think. When did Molly's opinion become important, again?
