    Title: Building Bridges
    Author: Melethril
    Pairing: N/A
    Rating: T
    Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6427995/1/Building_Bridges
Story Summary: Everybody knows his name: the Boy Who Lived. However, five hundred years ago, everybody knew the earth was flat, too.

I was actually going to rec this fic for the library but found that it was on The List, so I guess it goes here. Premise of the story should be familiar to anyone who's read a Twin Who Lived fic, although here the twin in question is Neville's, with Harry himself being an orphan. The standard bevvy of cliches apply: orphanages are terrible, terrible places, acknowledged twin's fame has gone completely to his head, neglected twin is neglected, goblin/house-elf silliness, super-special wand and all those tropes that come with the territory. Despite all that, I enjoyed the story which gets by mainly on the strength of its characters and their interactions. Personally nets a 5/5 from me once you get over the cliche opening.

Building Bridges is extremely weak My review in the Trash Bin thread.

I was being generous in my review as well. Some other issues include that Harry's an emo-pussy, the orphanage is something straight out of Victorian England, it's an irritating OC fest, somehow McGonagall knows Snape's secret motivations that are revealed in DH and fundamentally it's just boring. It's in the Trash Bin for a reason.

Link to the thread if you want to read the reviews.
Not much in there though. Thread devolved into an argument over whether the 'Light Side' are pussies by definition and Dumbledore's motivations.

I'd call the fic barely reccomendable, readable if you need a heavy dose of semi-retarded fluff and don't mind a ridiculous dose of cliches.

    The Ever-Locked Room

Yeah, ignore the summary, it doesn't really mean anything. H/G but not really shippy. Interesting idea with a decent execution, but I'm not sure it belongs in the library. What sayeth DLP? I can't really say much without spoiling the whole thing.

Wrong BWL, Harry is mute. His parents don't neglect him, his brother isn't an idiot. 2 chapters in right now.

I was slightly reluctant to read this because of the disability, but was pleasantly suprised.

Harry's muteness (?) is the reason why his parents pay slightly more attention to his brother, which in and of itself is a welcome change and a believable explanation. It also encouraged him to learn silent casting (a single lumos so far), so I'm looking forward to see where the author is going with this quite talented Harry.

For a moment there, I thought I'd wandered into the shitty summaries thread.

Also, Ever-Locked Room was already linked in this thread, back on page 28. It's a passably decent fic, IMO.

Shit, I dunno what's going on. I fixed it and it worked; is there a filter for LJ links or something?

    Ninjaed: Oops. Didn't see it.

It's a humor fic, three chapters in.
Good set-up, just waiting for the axe to drop, now.

I like it. The happy-go-sarcasm tone it uses can come off as annoying in some fics but it suits this one.

Well, it's long and doesn't completely suck so far. I read up to Chapter 9 but find myself skimming. Pretty much everything regarding their mysterious multi-chapter surprise trip to the middle of the Amazon is causing me to go WTF though. Edit: Read through Chapter 12 now and am giving up, though if I had more time on my hands I might try to keep going.

I wouldn't rate it high enough for the library, but it's a decent example of something that's almost recommended at perhaps a 2/5 imo.

For anyone planning to read it so far it's been fairly standard Harry/Snape bonding due to some event that forces them to work together. The forced proximity to Harry causes Snape to start seeing him for who he really is, blah blah blah, and next thing you know he's starting to see that Harry was abused and not a pampered prince, etc.

If I keep reading I'm hoping it will diverge into something more original later. Anyone who vaguely likes this story and hasn't read Resonance by GreenGecko should probably go give that one a go instead.

    It's definitely a bit overly-dramatic and angst-ridden in places though. >.>

Actually, all your hopes will be granted. Well, maybe. Harry doesn't really play a huge role in the rest of the story - in fact, Moody gets more screen time than Harry does. I can't say that you'll be any more interested in it, but you don't have to worry about sappy HP/SS retardedness.

    So.. anybody wanna rec it?

Very respectable Twin story - of course, it suffers from Canon Rehash, and there aren't any sequels, and those two reasons are enough to keep me from posting it in For Review. Nevertheless, it doesn't fall into most common tropes of Twin stories, so it's worth a read if you've got some spare time.

Pretty much this, though the chapters quite short so far and the writing is rather mundane. It'll probably be worth the time it takes to read.
