You'll remember in the show that infant Clark was able to easily lift a car. There's no reference to super speed in his earlier childhood, but I definitely agree that realistically, Harry should be able to at LEAST do half of the speed Clark was capable of in that episode.

Finally! Someone with X-Ray vision that isn't afraid to use it for its intended purpose.

The reason I like this story is for Harry's Zod impersonation. Knowing Zod's character, none of Harry's actions are over the top. If anything they are subdued. (like the office scene with Snape snapping his wand. Zod would have snapped Snape's neck in return.) If he were to try this as his canon self then it would be quite odd.

    Rating: T
    Genre: Drama
    DLP Category: The Alternates
    Pairing: Probably Harry/Hermione

I liked it at first, but it starts to focus way too much on the abuse as the story progresses.

This is shit. Why would you even recommend this? There are so many problems with this fic I don't even know where to start.

The abuse is ridiculous. The Dursley's themselves were never physically abusive in canon, so this sudden change to a Vernon who beats the shit out of Harry and denies him food for for weeks on end (seriously wtf) is very jarring to say the least. The author doesn't even bother writing a single line as to Vernon's justification for this abuse. He justs beats the crap out of Harry and starves him and the reader is just supposed to accept it.

I'm not against a young Harry discovering his magic and trying to learn how to control it, but in this fic it's obviously that this is just a prequel to a super!Harry, so consider me unsurprised when in his first year Harry tries learning Occlumency/Legilimency as well as more wandless magic, not to mention reading about the animagus transformation, which he will undoubtedly master by the end of his second year.

I don't think the author appreciates just how rare Occlumency/Legilimency is, but then again, he apparently thinks children can be starved for weeks on end without any lasting negative consequences. In OoTP, neither Harry nor Hermione had even heard of Occlumency...and if there were tons of readily available books on the subject, you can bet Hermione would have at least come across a passing reference to them. I have a hard time accepting 1st year Harry randomly coming across books on Occlumency, let alone trying to learn it.

The plotting and characterizations themselves are shitty. His Harry, despite his backround in this story, is completely unsympathetic and uninteresting. I was bored to tears reading Harry's account of events through the prologue and chapter 1. There's really nothing interesting here, no real hook to draw the reader in.

The writing is just barely above average: many times his scenes are only 2 short paragraphs long, his use of commas blows, and there is too much telling and not enough description. The characters and scenes are flat and unimaginative; the plot unlikely to go in any interesting directions. So yeah, the writing is obviously not nearly enough to make up for the many, many flaws in this steaming shit pile.

This story doesn't even belong in almost recommended, let alone the library.

    0.5/5

If we used that argument, there would be no reasonable way for most of the bad guys superman faces to be a problem either. He's way too overpowered.

Don't think this was posted anywhere. I found it a nice oneshot.

Didn't like it. Grammar is okay and I have maneged to finish but it doesn't have any plot it is just another story of this kind. It simply doesn't have anything to offer wich isn't done before.

Lady Altair just writes the same story over and over and over again. Cauterize was brilliant, she really nailed her material that time. This, like almost all the others she's done, was just meh. Tries way to hard to tug on your heartstrings and shove the brokenness of people in your face.

"Power Play" updated for the first time in about 9 months.

It is the defintion of an "almost recommendable" in my opinion. It's a Harry/Daphne but Daphne isn't introduced until the seventh chapter and she's characterized as a "cold bitch" but not overly so, she doesn't reallly like Harry but is willing to persue him in order to ensure her status. The story itself focus' on Harry becoming more politically aware than he is in canon, also, the Potter's are in serious debt, an idea which is atleast done well.

The negatives of the story are that the author isn't consistent; also, nothing is incredibly original. The story is around 50K and is a good time-waster. Overall it is a story that I follow because I find it intriguing and isn't overly cliched and I feel if the author can execute the main plot points effectively than this story can be more than something completely forgettable.

    Edit:
Silverlasso is correct, I meant "Power Play." Here's a link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5580668/1/Power_Play

Do you mean Power Play? I just read that update without bothering to refresh my memory by reading the previous chapters. It feels like something that I would have found good 3 years ago...but I guess it still fits in Almost Recommendable.

You're right, it is "Power Play." Apparentely I lose my ability to read at 3 a.m, I have no idea why I originally said "Knowledge is Power."

Title: Harry Potter and the Death's Head Mark
    Author: el-inquisidor
    Rating: T
    Genre: Adventure
Summary: Harry goes back in time to kill Voldemort, but changes history instead. Now Hogwarts is occupied by Nazis, Harry's a P.O.W., Dumbledore is missing, the Dueling Club forms a resistance, and Tom Riddle has nightmares of someone he's never met. 1 of 3.

Looked up "Dumbledore killing nazis" in google, and this is what I got. Not bad for a timekiller, author does mess with some canon facts though (like muggle nazis being able to see ghosts). Sadly Dumbledore has failed to make an appearance though, not to mention it hasn't been updated since '07.

    Title: Shadow Walks
    Author: lorien829
    Genre: Angst/Romance
    Pairing: Harry/Hermione
    Rating:T
Summary: In the five years since the Final Battle, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley have struggled to cope with the mysterious disappearance and apparent death of Hermione Granger. There are deeper and darker purposes at work than Harry yet realizes.

One of the first fanfictions I read years ago on Portkey, not as good as I remember and a bit slow to start but stops being an angsty mess and becomes a decent if dated multi-verse journey I wont go into any more detail to not put in spoilers. Fans of H/HR should like it.

My latest, a one shot at about 4k words, likely falls into the "almost recommended" category. Link is to the newest chapter.

    New chapter from Perspicacity,
Title: Adventures in Child Care and Other One Shots
    Category: Harry Potter
    Character(s): Harry P. & OC
    Chapter 9 Title: Negotiations
    Words: 4,268
    Genre(s): Humor/General
    Rating: Rated: M
Summary: An assortment of Harry Potter one shots starting with my first: "Ron and Hermione deal with the aftermath of having Harry take care of their toddler. Much to their dismay, he proves to be a corrupting influence." Will be updated from time to time.
