I thought the Amelia thread was pretty fucking funny. The author is so utterly unable to admit that his story is anything short of perfect that his justifications get progressively stranger as the argument goes on. I particularly like his continued insistence that telling CPS to go away would literally be a declaration of war that will lead to the US army and the Triumvirate showing up and killing them.

 

IF I never hear another SB/Ver talk about how the Triumvirate will be called in to fix X minor problem in BB I'll die a happy man.

If I never hear "bullshit" again in a Worm fic...uh, you know what? Life's too short.

Such a shame...that update rate.

 

Amelia started off like a shitty Indepedent!Harry fic from 2005 - with her having a complete personality change for no real reason and grand plans of becoming a major player, then became a typical SpaceBattles fare of trying to come up with a way of making Pantheon as OP as possible, and now it's basically become Silencio.

Still, it's one saving grace is the absolutely ridiculous update rate. I swear, I check that thread a few times a day and there's always a new chapter. I gain some guilty pleasure out of it, but it's really sad the Worm fandom hasn't really graduated past this...

I've always wanted to see a Amy joins the Undersiders post-Leviathan done properly though. I'm surprised it's not a more common concept.

Same thing with Copacetic. For some bizarre reason, it's still probably the Worm fic I'm enjoying the most despite being really average and I think that's just because it's the only fic that has explored that concept.

Eh, some things have annoyed me, but it's still better than the majority of shit on SB.

I especially don't like the way Madison acted like a child after Trevor took off her mask. He majorly let her down, true, but looking at it from his perspective he was just doing what he had to do to survive in the freaking Birdcage.

Before this he wasn't involved in cape culture or anything. He didn't know the unwritten rules or who he was dealing with.

Hell, in canon the only person who even acknowledges their existence beyond the Endbringer Truce is Tattletale, who we all know is eminently trustworthy when she's trying to manipulate someone. Dragon and Defiant act surprised when Taylor mentions them in the chapter where her identity is revealed and the various Directors of the PRT don't acknowledge them in the slightest.

Either way, Trevor is an innocent who got caught in a really shitty situation, took a deal in ignorance that he thought he could work his way out of and only had good intentions when he did so. Then Madison effectively disowns him and leaves him on his own in The Freaking Birdcage. Shit man, I know he let her down, but he's still her brother. I really do hope the author decides to make her go back on that, despite what the idiots on SB say.

 

Journey of the Dragonfly is quite good. It features the party that went to investigate Cauldron (Weaver, Lung, Bitch, Imp, Canary, Golem ,Cuff and Shadow Stalker) somehow going in back in time to the time when Marquis ruled BB. Its still early days though, and other than an attack on the Empire and a shaky truce between Lung and Weaver not much has happened. I love hyper-competitive Weaver though (Way too many fics start at high school where Taylor is a helpless victim imo), and have high hopes for the story.

Its kinda sad how few good fics the fandom has. Weaver Nine was amazing (dat Leviathan Battle!); Cenatoph, Wake, Zenith and Go Gently were very good, but there are almost no decent fics that are still alive. Amelia is just a huge Amy wank- I have no idea how the most irritating character in canon became one of the most popular fanfiction characters. Firefly is the best of the current bunch, and even that updates rarely.

True, but one also has to keep in mind that Madison is a young person who had just been betrayed by her last living family member, so, she's allowed to a kneejerk reaction. Like, to her, it happened ten minutes ago at this point of the story. I am certain that she will do the right thing here. Yeah, her brother is a douche and an idiot but that doesn't mean he should be stuck in the birdcage. So, keeping all that in mind, I would say we should give her a few more minutes before she can make correct decisions again. Or even at a later point. So, didn't really have a problem with it so far.

In the heat of the moment, especially after an ordeal like this, people may not make sound decisions. That is true for experienced professionals and young teenagers alike.

Point. It's probably the comments section that drove me to this opinion more than the chapter itself. All of the 'Trevor deserves everything he gets because he finds Miss Militia attractive and made a stupid mistake' thing annoys me, especially when it's parroted a dozen or so times with little in the way of rebuttal.

disgusting,so I just decided not to bother and noped out of there.

 

My main complaint about Firefly is the degree to which Fem!Lung is better in every way than canon Lung. Individually the differences are all perfectly reasonable, but all of them being for the better is not. It's not enough to ruin the story for me, though, and I've been enjoying it.

So why exactly are 90% of Worm fics abandoned since summer 2014? Did something happen to the fandom around that time? Seriously, every time a good fic ends suddenly I look at the edit date and it's july. It's a shame that there are like two good completed worm fics. I sometimes wish Worm was as light read-y as Harry Potter so the fanbase wasn't so incredibly small.
