I'd like to see the story end with a timeskip to Scion scouring the last remaining microbes from the surface of the Earth.

 

I never realy like no-power Taylor fics

 

Yeah, I can really take or leave the no power part. In this one though, I'm fairly sure she's already either triggered with some kind of combat thinker power that she doesn't know about or will soon.

But there are two reasons I'd recommend this one. First, the characterization is for the most part spot on. Taylor has a few issues, mostly about freaking out at things, but otherwise everyone sounds like them. It's been so long since I've seen a decent Sophia that's not just a complete sociopath that I'm giving it bonus points just for that.

Second, I'm just a fan of things I haven't seen before that are done decently. This one has a few, nothing earth shaking, but a few minor things that make me like it a lot. Taylor actually has a normal friend here, which I don't think I've ever seen before. Sure, she's not important and has been mentioned like twice, but she exists! There's a good scene with Emma's older sister that makes me think we're going to be seeing more of her, and I really liked it.

 

I dunno, I've recently been interested in a concept I've been thinking up that sees Taylor Post-Worm in Aleph. Unlike Copacetic, she wouldn't get her powers back. It'd start off focused on her being frustrated with the inability to interfere, struggling trying to make a normal life and finally just deciding to get involved with the Cape scene. I suppose the hard part would to avoiding making things too easy for her - what would make the concept interesting is just how much she'd have to struggle to do anything worthwhile (eg, somehow putting together and managing a team?), using just her previous experience as a very successful cape. Lots of potential to become cheesy though if her ability is overdone (like most Worm fics).

 

Need some help here. I was planning on writing a fic where Skitter manages to kill Jack and Bonesaw at Arcadia and therefore cements her place as the Warlord of Brockton Bay, not stepping down after Echidna and so forth. The biggest problem is that I have no idea how to engineer a situation where she'd be able to kill Jack and Bonesaw due to Bonesaw's modifications. The only thing I could think of is to have her run into Armsmaster who would have Dragon able to tell him that Skitter's not a member of the slaughterhouse 9, but that still doesn't give him an incentive to give her a highly dangerous tinkertech weapon. Maybe it could be done with a normal weapon like in Wake, but it seems a little too easy for both Jack and Bonesaw.

 

Not sure if I like the characterisation and while I like the existence of actual friends, something that I would actually love to read about within the canon concept (no alternate powers or anything) where she sets up her territory in a place close to that friend or has to find her after Leviathan and then include her in her command structure like Charlotte.

The problem with that is, of course, that Taylor does a lot of the things she does because she is completely isolated and has no friends. So, not sure how to balance all that. Maybe have her be absent because her parents moved away before the bullying started and she came back after the trigger?

What I really liked about this story though, was the confrontation with Emma's sister, and I am looking forward to see more on that angle, like an interlude where she confronts Emma about this. I can see a parent trying to protect their child, even if they did something shitty but in this case, a sibling would call them out on their crappy behaviour, so, want to see more of that.

I don't care much for the fight scenes and whatnot, tbh.

 

I liked this. It’s a fic that's focused on the small time fights and Taylor and Aisha being awesome. I agree that Taylor has probably already triggered with a subtle luck-based or enhanced skill learning power, but if not, the locker is only a week away in story-time, though there’s no way Taylor is going to let that happen.

The only problem with fic is that I can’t see Aisha being fine with Taylor getting all the credit for the guys they take down. She’s also pretty okay with being quiet in the background as Taylor gets acquainted with other capes, though that may just be side-effects of her power.

 

Option a) Have her locate a cache of toys Bakuda or Coil/something similar. Most Tinkertech should be dangerous enoug to kill S9 if used correctly. Such luck/a thing may feel a bit artifical but I don´t think that can be avoided if you want to change the scene into one where Taylor beats S9.

Option b) Manpulation/Psychology. Have her beat Jack at his own game and use the various capes in Brockobay to kill the two S9 members.

 

I feel like this is Emma-In-Name-Only. She shares none of the character traits or even looks of canon Emma. There isn't even real character development, because that takes place all off-screen at the start.

This could have been about some girl in Detroit who triggered. The only relation to Emma are the constant comparisons to Shadow Stalker and Skitter.

Considering the stuff that been posted here I'm always a bit baffled how people react to it in other fandoms. Trips at least has been here long enough that he shouldn't be surprised at the things people write about in fanfiction.

 

I'm not surprised after reading squick nothing really gets to me anymore but I'm looking through this guy's stuff and fuck, a story where Aisha and Brian have sex, and another one where society brought down the age of consent to 13. I'm starting to see him as kind of a creep

 

Oh, I know the depravities of people writing fanfiction, Hell, my posts in the WTF fics threads should show as much, but I seem to have grown out of the stage of finding such things amusing, strangly enough. And considering Ack is supposed to be a 40 something old dude, makes the shit he writes even more creepy

Pretty much. A bunch of that stuff is definitely squicky, but one of the first things I found when I was getting into fanfic was Vash's stuff. So I'm pretty sure I'm just heavily jaded at this point.

 

Parental Guidance : Humor fic. Both Danny and Annette are alive and successful kleptomaniac villains. When Taylor triggers, she joins the family business. Nothing too special, but worth a few chuckles, I think.

 

Meh.

I want to see a comedy that keeps the serious tone of the story, but has fun with it. That story instead follows the idea that a comedy is just crack that completely ignores characters for jokes.

 

So Thinker6 started a new story. Premise is Taylor triggering with Dinah's powers. I was waiting to post it until more went up, but we've had about 3 updates in 24 hours, so I don't think it's slowing down anytime soon.

Number Girl

So far, it's focused entirely on Taylor's relationship with Emma. So if you're a reader who doesn't like focusing on the small stuff, I'd give this one a pass until they eventually start punching Behemoth.
