I always thought one of the purposes of this thread is to provide a place for people to rec. decent stories not entirely aligned with DLP groupthink. Marauders era, Severitus, Harry/Ginny, angst, vampires, twinfics, instafail (e.g., HP/Naruto) or weird (HP/Calvin and Hobbes) crossovers... there should be someplace for folks to give their sheepish, half-hearted recs of readable stories in these genres. It's only healthy.

Not especially well written, but I laughed a couple of times. It's an X-Men fic featuring Sabertooth who isn't at all gay, so rarity gives it an added bonus..

One shots aren't particularly well liked here, so here's yet another story that I'm too chicken to put in For Review, but like anyway.

I remember reading that Perfectly Abnormal a little while back. Nice one shot for a smile or two.

Every once in a while, I get the urge to read crossovers. The best (and most unlikely) I've ever read isn't in any fandoms that I really follow, to be truthful. And, as with all crossovers, the vast majority in existence are absolute crap. However, once in a while, you find a little glimmer of gold among the dross. I wouldn't dare rec this in for review, because the author writes primarily Harry/Ginny and I have a feeling that this might turn into such eventually.

This is well-written, and an angle I haven't seen before when crossing LOTR with HP. It's a good read, but unfortunately, the author hasn't updated in a few months, because RL bit her in the butt. (Dumb college professors! Don't they know that fanfiction is more important than term papers and exams?)

Now I know that many people here don't like non-Harry centric fics but I really do recommend you try this. Just a silly one shot - pre-DH, post-Voldemort - and it's got a Draco-Luna friendship theme.

Light of the Moon by Zapenstap
In the final school days following the end of the war, Draco Malfoy dreads facing life as a reformed Death Eater. He is in debt to his worst enemy, ostracized by everyone, and feeling sorry for himself when his privacy is interrupted by Luna Lovegood.

I was actually thinking of posting it in For Review but didn't think it was really purposeful enough to make it. But it'll likely make the Recycle Bin.

Yeah, the story isn't too bad. I'd be wary about putting this up for review, since it centers around a character who is vastly disliked by DLP.

It's a good read that stays pretty true to the canon characterisation of Draco and Luna. Luna's portrayal is well done here. The author makes no excuses for Draco and no attempts to depict him as anymore than what he is- a pathetic coward, albeit one who is beginning to learn the concept of friendship.

    I'd give this a 4/5.

I just wanna say, no one who actually matters will ever have a problem if you like out of the ordinary things, such as Lily/Snape pairings etc. Ignore bigoted retards like Grub who can't handle ideas outside the current social norm, who are just trying to fit in. (Except Oz, he would never be in the social norm anyway :p)

I mean, fuck. Here at DLP we promote difference. Obviously we don't promote slash much, but, I can't see anyone really having an issue with you liking odd pairings, as long as you don't try to shove it down our throats.

Yeah, as you can tell, bigoted retardation really pisses me off.

    Rant over.

    Edit: I guess its not.

Who the fuck are you to say that? Just because someone cannot write well doesn't mean they cannot write at all. Fuck, i've got a couple of fics floating around at about 20-30k words, and I am sure as hell not posting them here, or anywhere for that fact, simply because I wrote them as an outlet, and I am well aware of their lack of quality. I'd not let that stop me from writing if I wanted to though.

Why would you tell someone to stop writing, if its not up to DLP standards, if they enjoy writing they have every right to do so.

God some people piss me off.

Harry jumps after Sirius through the Veil, dragging Remus and Tonks along. What they find on the other side? HP Diablo Xover. Rated M for reason. Harry, Sirius, Remus, Dora, Deckard Cain, his new apprentice, and old heroes unite! Full summary inside!

I had my doubts about this one, mostly because of the Xover but I was greatly surprised once I start reading it. The story is engaging and the plot is promising some great adventures with quite a fights coming. Begins as H/Tonks and if the author doesn't change his mind, hopefully not, it will remain the same.

The only problem with the story is a lenghty paragraphs and a bit too long inner monologues. The author is not Joe neither jbern but he does manage to create a few entertaining situations and funny sarcastic remarks.

Depends on how the story progress in the next few chapters I do believe it would be worth it for a review and eventually even a place in the library.

Dude, I don't care if slash for example is or isn't a social norm. I won't read it and prefer someone post it at a website more suitable. If it's a slash parody or something like that - okay. But I don't think the ordinary slash has a place here.

Snpae/Lily is not an odd pairing like H/Padma or something like that. It's disturbing. I don't really care what he likes or not, just wondering why he would be here when there's practically nothing of his favorite pairing.-

If the author isn't sure if he should post his on story he probably shouldn't. He should fix it until he's sure it's good, no matter what genre it is. Someone who doesn't write well should practice until he writes well [maybe posting in WBA for help] and when he's good enough in his opinion - post. What's the point of reccomending something you're not sure about?

If you're writing a story and then it strucks you how stupid the whole idea is - you need to fix it or throw it and start something new.

Slash is not a new and different pairing. There is as much slash on FF.net as there is M/F pairings.

We like pairings that realistically with a strong male character, but fits canon possibility somewhat.

In Harry Potter, having a Harry/Lucius Malfoy story isn't just bad for the fact that it's generation-gap slash. It's bad because it's utterly illogical generation-gap slash.

Harry/Padma, on the other hand, could easily happen, and, seeing as she is in Ravenclaw and not well defined as a character, there is a lot you could do with her (pun included).

There is some slash out there in which the quality of characterization, plot, writing, and action vastly compensates for the slash. My favorite example is Lightning on the Wave's Sacrifices Arc.
