That one is satire right? Right? I mean, it's hard to believe that anyone intelligent enough to write fairly well (as this author does) could manage to use almost every single post-OotP independent/super Harry cliche there is unless he was doing it deliberately. I'm shocked.

It's...interesting. Almost like a summary of the hundreds of post-OotP Independent Harry fics out there. "If you've been away for two years, read this and catch up" Good selling point. Not to mention it's very short.

I find it quite refreshing actually :p . He's quite an impressive writer to put every single cliche almost EVER into that fic. And in only two chapters, too!
Perhaps we should put this up as a writing guide -
Cliches and how to avoid them?
And then a second writing guide.
Putting in cliches? How not to implement them!

Uh, would the story by Black Roses in the Midnight count as barely readable? Its the one that the flame replies thread is about.

Title: War With the Darkest Power
    Author: sugarbob
Summary: Formerly known as the Fight Against Evil, but that was too general. Continuation of HBP. Starts with the Dursleys, then to DoM, then to the Horcrux hunt. Lots of comedy relief. I don't own HP

    Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2583487/1/

Now, this is one of the few post-HBP stories that I managed to read past the initial chapter.

This Harry is surprisingly laid down, smart and generally cooler than the pathetic whimp that HBP had left us with. The main plot seems to be his attempt at releasing Sirius from behind the Veil, using the information from one of Dumbledore's dark arts books.

Unfortunately, this story is completely fucking ruined by keeping the whole twue wuw thing with Ginny... I mean, this Harry is shamelessly flirting with two hot chicks that are eager to share him, and all he can think about is staying true to the stalker bitch and begging her to take him back... pathetic. I stopped reading this somewhere in the 3rd chapter, when this shit became too obvious.

Ah, hell, that went all to hell alright. Stopped reading at Chapter Four when H/G declare their love for each other, despite only having dated for about two weeks. I was kind of holding out hope that Voldemort would randomly appear, pull off a Killing Curse towards Ginny and dissapear but alas, when you really want a WTF moment, they just don't happen.

I was reasonably enjoying that as well, slightly more James Potter-like Harry.

EDIT: Right. So, we're not supposed to bash a fic just because of its pairing now, and I am kinda doing it for this fic, so I'll add a little more.
Its not (only) because of the pairing. Believe it or not, I can actually read Harry/Ginny fics sometimes. I just don't like when Ginny is acting like a complete and utter..ah..annoying person. I just try and blank it out, or try to find the amusing side of it, and continue reading until they get to the action. I partly don't like the pairing because I dislike Ginnys OotP/HBP character. I hate how she is supposed to be pretty/popular/feisty/spunky/the only who can stand up to big bad Harry. Its just a complete throw around from the previous years Ginny, and it seems like JKR made her like that *just* for an excuse for Harry to get involved in some romance in HBP. I'd love to see a Post-CoS H/G, because in a way that makes her a blank state.

What annoys me in this fic is Harry's total fliparound. It reads like the author has changed their mind as to the pairing from one chapter to the next. In one, he's shamelessly flirting with two hot girls, going pretty well with them and in the next, he's declaring his love for Ginny because Fred and George have locked them in a cupboard/room. I can't quite remember, not having read it for a few days and my FF.net is currently messing up.

I really was enjoying this fic, and I most likely will start reading it again once my FF.net stops screwing me around. But is it too much for the author to remember these two are teenagers? Despite what fanfiction may have you believe, people rarely fall in love in two weeks. At least it doesn't have a heart bond/soul bond/soul mates/heart mates/whatever horrible name for it they come up with next.

nah, i reallly need something where the death eaters abduct ginny to do a toture. this is where the death eaters skin the girl alive from head to toe and then feed her to rats. while the rats are have the fun of a life time with a buffey the death eaters uses a really pewerful charm that keeps her alive for the pain.

As someone who doesn't care about H/G I think that this is one that could be worth watching. It's far from great though.

Another clished Dark & Independant story that follows the pattern to the letter - Gringotts, Griphook, Black Will, blatantly evil Dumbledore, jelous & evil Ron, authority-worshiping Hermione, grocery lists of famous ancestors, shares and abilities etc...

Absolutely nothing at all original or interesting here.

    ARRRRGHHHHHHH

the typos make it very difficult to read. There are a lot of americanisms.

But beyond that the writing style is good.
