Ah, I didn't remember that part, as I read the entire book in under 10 hours, and haven't picked it up since. Not cause it's bad, I just have other things to read. =D

 

Yes, yes. I'm necro-ing a positively ancient thread. But I figure the library is excluded, and this particular thread is like a wannabe library. This is the best place to put the fics you think are worth mentioning, but are unworthy of being added to the DLP library. And hopefully people won't put up fics 'For Review' that are destined to fail.

(If you're wondering a few fics have been listed here, found a healthy audience, and gotten called up to the show in the library.)

Here's a fic that's definitely somewhere in between barely readable and almost good:

This is a decent start to an Independent Harry story. Ron and Hermione have been spying in cahoots with a manipulative Dumbledore. Neville's the new super best friend. A number of clever ideas, I've not seen before (like the Patronus plushie pals, Flitwick with a portrait, the roll book). This isn't the worst fic around though there are a number of cliches in it.

But dear god... you want to talk about a fic moving at a glacial pace. It's now been in progress for over two years. We've got 25 chapters. And I think we've managed to cover maybe three days now. Three days. Red alert folks, we're in Wishweaver country here.

It's post-OotP, but the thing is, we're actually only starting just after Harry found out the prophecy and Sirius got tossed in the veil like a stray. So we're not even to summer yet. We're in those last couple weeks after OWLS and before they go home.

Most Indy!Harry fics irritate me when after a dozen chapters we're still in summer and not to the next school year. This fic should make it to the start of summer by about chapter 100 at this rate.

Well, I would get totally lynched if I put any of this guys fics in the For Review section, but I've noticed that whenever a n00b does they always link to ficwad. DrT is slowly posting fics he's already completed on ficwad, and his completed works can be found at fiction alley

Personally I think not a lot of it is worth reading, but his Old Believer series is quite good, its an 80+ chapter thing he's split into 5 parts on fiction alley, but is being posted all under the one title at ficwad. There is also a 10 or so chapter AU from that fic he's written, and 23 odd chapter fic using the same basic structures and plot lines, but a different over all plot and different OC's.

His writing is of moderate quality, and the content is amazing, but what with the length and the fact that its complete, and it isn't complete smut like his redux fic was, its a good way to pass the time with an ok fic.

 

The following summary looks really gross, doesn't it?

Well, you certainly think the same as I thought reading this.

Nevertheless, I had a look into it, and I don't regret it. It isn't brilliant, and certainly not worth an own thread in "For Review", but it is worth a post here.

However - for me the punchline was not the end of the fic - the punchline were the two reviews. So don't forget to have a look at them afterwards.

It is quite well written with a lot of humour. It explains the Order of the Phoenix as a Militia and not as a vigilante group which is quite interesting as I haven't seen that one done before. Harry should have known this all along but as Hagrid forgot to give him "the guide" he has no idea about anything...


It seems to be leading to a Harry/Luna. I like Luna but not in the way she is portrayed in here which is also my major problem with the fic...

It plays around with some major clichés as it seems to lead directly to them and then take a turn in the opposite direction.

This all seems quite positive but even so I couldn't stomach more than 9 chapters. Perhaps I will try again later when I'm in a better mood.

So if you have an hour or two to kill, check it out as it has also quite a decent length and not a bad update rate.

This is one of the most crap fics I've ever read in my life. But still. It's funny.
Harry is a sort of Pete Doherty figure at the age of fourteen who is in depression because he was sexually assaulted at an orphanage. And he is supposedly bisexual but this is just slash all the way.
And you have Alive!James who cheats on Alive!Lily with some random person because Lily can't deal with the fact that Harry is an alcoholic druggie. Even though by chapter 13 (yes I read that far, just to see if it was a joke (it's not)), they still haven't spoken to him.

 

Holy hot fucking tamales. That fic is still being updated while perfectly good stories (Anarkia) rarely if ever are updated? Words cannot describe the amount of pure disgust I have for this fic right now. I'll edit if I think of something. 0/5

Two short to be placed in the library, IMO. But the randomness of Luna wanting to marry Harry ever so suddenly is just lulz worthy. At least, I think it is. Fairly well written as well.

For what it's worth, this thread and thread title pre-dates the For Review system. This thread was for fics that posters didn't feel were quite worthy of being added to the DLP library, but anyone could add anything to any section.

In my mind, if I'd give the fic a 3.5 or lower, I'd "recommend" it here. If anyone else out there thinks it's worthy of the DLP library (rate it 4+) they can suggest it 'For Review'.

Then maybe we wouldn't get so many shitfics posted where the original poster says essentially, "It's not great, but others might like it. 3/5" That inevitably get 0s and 1s for sucking.

 

It's a short ficlet. If you were to judge it based on its fanfic-ness, then you'd have to say that the descriptions of the surrounding areas are completely absent, the dialogue is abrupt and unoriginal, and the plot is overly simplistic and uninteresting. However, for a short parody of a ficlet, it's mildly comical and a good way to waste 2 minutes. I wouldn't suggest that you put it in For Review topic, because there's nothing really to review.
