It's an kinda obscure crossover. It's still just starting. It's meh, but readable.

Mercedes Lackey's novel, "The Chrome Circle" - part of her "SERRAted Edge" series.

    Major characters include:
Tannim, a human mage with a taste for hot Celtic rock, fast cars and dangerous women
FX (real name: Saski Berith) - a kitsune, or fox-spirit, and friend of Tannim
    Chinthliss - a dragon, Tannim's mentor and foster-father
Lady Shar (a kitsune) is the daughter of an evil dragon, Charcoal (Chinthliss's rival), and a 9-tailed kitsune, Lady Ako (Chinthliss's old flame).
Keighvin, Tannim's friend - an elf lord

In Have Chrome, Will Travel, Lady Shar & Tannim have raised Harry as their adopted child (at the age of 5) in North Carolina, where he has grown up racing cars (the family business). Lady Ako is his "grandmother". Wackiness ensues when Harry is forced (by the Goblet of Fire) to appear and compete in the Tri-Wizard Tournament.

Shortly after Harry Potter learns that he is a wizard, he finds himself thrust into a world full of medieval fantasy, complete with kings and castles, knights and dragons, and everything else he never expected. An AU Harry Potter story.
    Rated: Fiction T - English - Adventure - Harry P., Ron W., Hermione G., Neville L. - Chapters: 5 - Words: 57,858 - Reviews: 27 - Favs: 51 - Follows: 63 - Updated: 19h ago - Published: Aug 7, 2013 - id: 9570961

It is extremely slow paced - at >50k words in, we're still in the first week of classes. But that's due to all the effort that's gone into world-building. The writing is well-done, as well.
I've no idea, what the plot will be, but if the author manages to keep it up, we'll see!
Remind's me a bit of Taure's work in the sense that it emphasizes culture, magic etc. Hopefully, Harry will turn out to be awesome at magic and work hard at it - I fear that the author is being a bit to realistic in making Harry unable to focus for many hours over books etc.

It's certainly an interesting read, and I like it a lot as the spiritualish successor to Lords of Magic. I'm hoping the pace speeds up once some of the exposition finishes.

Also, can't wait to see what happens when Voldemort's name is uttered if Sirius Black's name caused that effect.

Early blush, I'd vote it high enough for it to be in the library, but the pace has me leery. Not a good track record for continued fics when you're at week 1 of Hogwarts through 50,000 words.

I also am not totally convinced by the world-building. Is it just done for the purpose that the author likes medieval fantasy settings?
Or will there be any explatations as to why the muggle word is so unknown, why there is no trade going on, why people in the magical world actually work hard at manual labor jobs when there would be alternatives?
Normally, people strive to improve their standard of living.

A bit cliche HP/FD romance. Features a 7th year Ravenclaw Harry along with Ben, his Brother-Who-Lived. The Potters are dead and they get along well.

So far I'd call it library material if it wasn't for the constant pov swapping.

It's the same author from Funny Thing, Magic. (balding super!harry)

Just for once I'd like to see a Fleur who actually enjoys the attention, who enjoys the effect that she has on men. A confident, sexually liberated woman, instead of a shy, insecure girl with a confident facade.

Similarly, I wish I could see a Harry who, instead of acting all sappy, considerate and attracting women with how utterly asexual he is, actually is overtly sexually attracted to Fleur and that's okay, because there's absolutely nothing wrong with being attracted to a confident, sexy woman.

Alas. It's rather sad that so many fanfic writers seem to be under this impression that insecurity, denying your sexuality and acting like a saint are attractive qualities. It's probably because the type of people who write Harry/Fleur are generally young men who haven't yet realised that women are, in fact, just as horny as guys are. They believe that what a girl really wants in a guy is so much "respect" for her that he refuses to touch her and freaks out when he does.

The number of fics where Harry acts asexual and thus gets sex from a girl as a reward is truly depressing.

    The same applies to Harry/Tonks.

Maybe I'm misremembering it, but isn't this one of the strengths of JBern's The Lie I Lived?

Cliché Fleur aside, the fic has a few problems:

    1. Barely any magic. I don't think Harry has used his wand once in 28,000 words.
    2. Harry is kinda boring. He's not the Boy Who Lived, he's not particularly brave or adventurous. It doesn't look like he's particularly talented or knowledgeable. He's not charming or charismatic. He's just so bland that reading him is almost painful. I honestly don't see what Fleur likes about him.
    3. Barely anything happens. Those things that do happen are the same as canon, and they're happening to Ben. Harry is little more than an observer who occasionally gets forced into action not by his own initiative but because Ben proactively drags him into it.

On the plus side, the writing is technically very good.

    This, a thousand times this!

If I read one more Harry/Tonks that has the whole "sex doll metamorph" thing ("Nobody loves me for me, only my ability to transform into their dream girl! *sob-sob-sob*), I'm going to fucking throw a brick through my monitor.

Wasn't there a plot bunny a few years ago where Fleur was pretty much a spoiled, bratty predator, who wanted to fuck Harry for the status he'd bring her/he's the only one "worthy" of being equal to her in status?

I think you're talking about "The French Affair" but someone here seems to have abandoned it.

I agree. The concept is inherently flawed without some major type of change to the cannon story to explain how Voldemort hasn't taken over and declared Harry undesirable no1, since his only real opponent (Dumbledore) died without putting up a fight.

But goddamn I want some more HarryP/Molly interaction. I read for that alone and that part of the story is actually really interesting and realistic imo.

Harry/Molly is OTP, but HarryP/Molly might be a nice fling.

I pretty much agree with you. I just finished this and actually enjoyed it quite a bit, though there were flaws - Ginny/Harry (well, Ginny in general) and Ron/Hermione were annoying as tits, the pages upon pages of pretty much every character sobbing "no don't do it, I don't want you to get hurt" to every other character got old fast, and most everyone was too damned likable. This isn't a bad thing when it makes you actually care about "good" characters that were hard to give a toss about in the books (the older Weasleys, Colin Creevey, Dean Thomas, Justin Finch Fletchley, Draco Malfoy, even Remus and Tonks) but it is a bit jarring when you have Death Eaters, Voldemort or other unrepentant scumbags bantering like schoolkids. Still though, this is nothing a decent editing couldn't fix, and the horcrux seeking and final battle were just as good (better in many places, in fact) than DH. Oh yeah, the epilogue was sort of fuckin' hokey but compared to "19 years later" it really wasn't too bad, despite introducing an annoyingly unnecessary loose plot thread (you'll know what I mean). It doesn't make the story not worth reading, if anyone is worried about that. You'll probably know by the tone of the first 3 or 4 chapters whether you'll enjoy the rest.

The dialogue and character interactions were really well done overall, there aren't idiot balls flying around left and right, and despite the main plot device being a bit "out there" it is acknowledged as such and they don't dwell on it too much. I'll agree with the 3.5/5 rating, but I don't presume to know if it would be library material.

    @To Ride Upon Svadilfari

Just read this one. While it isn't really a good fic, its still readable. The saving grace for this fic is the fast update rates. I think it gets updated daily, sometimes multiple times a day.

Writing isn't very good. Story is mostly taken from Avengers/Thor movies. And I don't think even the author knows where the story is going.

But something still makes me want to keep reading. I suppose if you start reading it with low expectations, and don't have anything else to kill time with, its worth a try.

It is not abandoned until I say it is abandoned.

I was actually working on it, but feel free to imagine I just stopped doing that, because fuck appearing as if I work on stuff because I get told to.

Love it. Feel free to post in the Review Board any time you think appropriate. I'd do it myself, but I always think it's kinda bleh to post stuff someone else found.

To Ride Upon a Svadilfari has turned into a Hermione wank of massive proportions. It frustrates me so much that so many authors love Hermione so much that they ruin her character, killing her out of love. I love Hermione too -- canon Hermione. Why can't people be satisfied with her being "merely" highly intelligent? Why do they have to turn her into a genius?

(On the other hand, I don't love canon Harry, which is why I normally change him).
