Not sure why that was excluded, this a lame April Fools rec? Because if it is where I am it's after 12 and you are now, officially, a fag. :D

I'm sure he linked that because he thought the story was good, and not just because its the first of April...

It's been linked before, but The Legacy has experienced a recent significant upswing in quality. Mostly because, after about 20 chapters of repetitive talk of contracts, the minutae of legal negotiations, and uninspired magical theory, things are actually happening.

I'm not sure if the latest chapters are good enough to make the fic as a whole worth reading, but if you're desperate to read something and have patience/good skimming ability, you might give it a go.

I can't believe this classic hasn't been recommended yet...

    Harry Crow by Robst
The Dursleys don't want their freak of a nephew in their home, so Vernon takes Harry directly from number 4's doorstep to Gringotts. What will happen when a goblin-raised Harry arrives at Hogwarts. A Harry who has received training, already knows the prophecy and has no scar. With the backing of the goblin nation and Hogwarts herself. Harry and co now entering fourth year.

This is one of my favourites. We all know how awesome, progressive and superior goblins are, right? Well, this not-even-HINO is goblin-raised and that manipulative bastard Dumblebore can't do anything about it. Harry Potter Crow is thus extremely competent, perfect and superior, which makes him extremely likeable. This relation ship between Mr. Darcy Harry and Hermione is written in a very realistic way, with just a small hint of Pride and Prejudice inspiration. There's a lot of Dumbledork bashing and Ron bashing, and it's updated frequently.

They Shook Hands : PostCanon Revision : Year One By Dethryl

Suppose Draco Malfoy introduced himself before he started acting like an ass. What if he had asked Harry's name before insulting Hagrid? A friendly handshake in Madam Malkin's leads to an alternate but realistic universe which is eerily like the canon

A very good What if Harry became friends with Draco and went into Slytherin, it features a Canon-like plot but with slytherin friends.
The first four years are done, he is regularly updating year five and had started writing year six.

    Through the Veil Strangely

Another fic from Inquistor Carrow's author.

More plain crack than the previous ones, but still funny and entertaining. Again, it doesn't feature Harry per se, more an OC taking place of canon Harry. Funny, if you are in the right mood, but nothing great.

Also check the author's other new fic, a SM Dreadnought Harry Crack fic.

    Curse of the Reapers

Sumary: In a world under the thumb of an ancient emperor, Muggle society has been oppressed beyond recognition. Wizards rule over all, society organized by power. This is the story of a broken family scattered by a perpetual war, and the bonds that lead home. AU

This is a pretty interesting story. It's extremely AU -- honestly probably a bit closer to original fiction than Harry Potter -- but has some cool ideas. It starts a little slow but once I got into it I found it hard to put down. It hasn't been updated in a year, though, so it looks to be abandoned at 146k words. Still worth the read in my opinion.

The general idea is that society is controlled by an ancient, immortal wizard emperor. There's a social hierarchy arranged in three tiers, with muggles being the lowest, ordinary wizards being second tier, and exceptional wizards being third-tier -- and those who are a member of the third tier are granted immortality. The emperor is an OC, Tom Riddle teaches at Hogwarts, Dumbledore secretly leads the rebellion (because of course there's a rebellion). James and Lily are alive and participating in the rebellion, but Harry was taken from them at a young age and believes he's a Muggle-born orphan.

Pros for the story probably include the world, which is interesting and pretty deep. Harry's characterization is good. The author also does a pretty good job of balancing a few different storylines and POVs.

Cons for me include Hermione's characterization, which is annoying and dumb in my opinion. It also starts a bit slow, but improves as you go.

Heh, I remember reading that fic on Mugglenet all the way back in '06. It's one of those fics that is technically proficient (or at least, I remember thinking so at the time) but just doesn't really engage you all too much.

Fixed the link. HTML is too hard.

Yeah, it's pretty old. Was actually surprised when I did a DLP search and didn't find a thread about it anywhere.

I'm still not sure if the writer really knows where this story should go. Now we have bat shit crazy Draco which is definitely something I can't recall reading before in such a way. But what are the consequences? From my perspective even Riddle nor his DEs could tolerate an out of control DE at school killing while they just took over. Harry, the left Order members and also the Greengrasses to at least protect their other daughter would be forced to neutralize Draco too and that as quickly as possible. This is a time bomb for everybody.

When I first read this, I assumed this was part of the April Fools Day hijinks... mostly because this particular story has been raised on this thread multiple times with responses ranging from 'mediocre' to 'please gouge my eyes out'.

The only new observation that I could make is that, over time, shit eventually stops smelling. But that doesn't mean its not still shit - you just got used to it.

And with a little more time, when it dries out completely, someone will pay a premium for it to mix into their little container gardens in Manhattan (usually by hand). That last bit probably doesn't make my point as well, though... so forget I mentioned it.
