Just a thought: as far as I know, there is no "HP Lexicon" of the Dresden world. DLP could start one.

It would be fairly simple at first: character profiles, organisations, places, history/timeline of the Dresden universe, spells, rules of magic.

We could do it in threads on the forum, or we could set up a Wiki/website for it, if we have people who know how that works.

It'd be a lot of work, but there's no obligation: anyone could contribute at any time, and little by little it could accumulate until one day we look at it and realise that there's loads of information there.

Thoughts?

 

There's a Dresden wikia out there, but it's all but abandoned now. I think it's a good idea though, I don't know how many times I've looked on wikipedia and not found what I wanted >_>. Like little nuances on how Dresden magic works, or who exactly some random character mentioned for the first time in six books actually is.

I'd help out occasionally, since I enjoy this sort of thing but still get that warm, fuzzy feeling for doing something positive for once .

 

I can't honestly say I'd be a lot of help, or even that I'd contribute often, but I'd seriously enjoy a thorough, well-maintained Dresden encyoclopedia. It could even be based around Bob for a theme. Spirit of Knowledge and whatnot.

DLP could adopt this or better yet start a new one.

Just keep track of what everyone does here and help each other out. Talk about verious plot points ect.

 

If we don't do it, the fangirls will, and fill the pages with quotes that can, if you tilt your head and squint, refer to slash pairings.

 

That's the wikia I was talking about. If we take it over we can assure ourselves that it turns out correctly, especially since we have some very thorough people here. Also, if it does happen we will need someone to design a banner of some kind...

 

I wouldn't mind helping out with this if it gets up and running.

 

Well it has two articles at the moment.

I say we just bite the bullet and do it.

If it doesnt work out on this wikia we can re use our stuff latter.

So lets just start small and do the characters.

Everyone pick one and write up a short bio. They can be expanded latter if you want but we may as well get it moving.

 

I started the Storm Front one up (before I checked here), so we have something of a template for the rest of the book articles.

I'll skip on the character ones if you don't mind, I'm not much good at getting character descriptions down on paper >_>.

I've only read the first seven books and started Proven Guilty, so I can't use informations out of all books, but I would love to help.
I'm good at looking things up in the books and can list many facts to places/characters/etc..

 

Well lets say you have only read the first 4 books. You can write a character bio or a organisation bio up to that point and post it. Then someone else can come along and finish it off. Thats the great advantage of a wikia.

Srsly. Citations.

 

The citations are all the same "From the books" If you follow the standard wikia lay out of breaking a character bio into chronological order then you only need to cit your sourse once per segment. Unless you wanna be anal and say page number ect which changer from print to print usually.

 

I dunno, I often felt some chapter mentions wouldn't have been too out of place. Sometimes I really need to jog the memory to remember obscure facts, even when I know which book they should be from.

 

If someone wanted to do the HTML work on it and put it all together, I could host it and set up a domain for it. DresdenLexicon or some shit D:

Nah... butchers still cool. When he makes his first billion though, we might be in some trouble.

Does it have to be a wiki though... Wiki's don't do it for me anymore. Except for Encyclopedia Dramatica of course.

I'm sure we could come up with something a little more impressive than the HP Lexicon if we put our minds to it.

Maybe a wiki would be a nice place to start while we collect our articles.

Excellent info, and I’m fully behind this, no matter which way it goes. I’m going to get started on how Dresden’s evocation works, the specifics of the association of a name with an effect etc.

Also, looking at that timeline made me realise something. Christ does Ebenezar have a thing for blowing shit up and big-time natural disasters!

Now I've got to go update my choice on the favourite character list, Ebenezar seems to be the wizarding baddass! Fuck destroying buildings, how about destroying whole chunks of the planet Dresden?
