Not a big fan of this idea. Even the bad stories that remain in the library are miles ahead of the sheer quanity of shit in the fandom. The DLP library is still the best in the fandom, without a doubt. It just needs a full time librarian.

There is a completed stories section of the library.

    1) Members who want to piss and moan about this shit find stories in library and tag 'complete'
    2) Members search by tags: complete
    3) ???
    4) Profit

I'm not pissing and moaning about this. I'm merely proposing an idea. And how do you tag a story as complete? I thought that was up to the moderator. Otherwise, follow your own advice and look a how few stories come up when you enter the prefix completed.

Pissing and moaning aside, this is exactly what I was thinking.

Agree that this is a silly idea.

However, Syao's post makes me think.

There are many stories from, say, 2005, that aren't really that good any more.

At the time they were great.

If we go through the library judging by current standards, many of these stories don't belong there and will be chucked out.

However, it seems (to me) sad to completely trash the "greats" of days gone by. For their time, they were classics.

One idea then would be to make a section for stories that no longer make the cut, but we want to keep around for nostalgic reasons.

I'm thinking specifically of stories like sib's "Awakening Power" (not sure if this is in our library, but most of those who have been in the fandom long enough will have read it). It's a classic. It would also now be considered clichéd, mediocre in style, bad Harry/Ginny post-OotP crap. But it still has an important place in the history of fanfiction. Similarly with Melindaleo's Power of Emotion/Curse of the Damned.

Indeed; one of the horrible ironies of fanfiction is that any time there is a really good fanfic with some original ideas it will spawn hordes of less-skilled imitators, until everything that was original about a great fanfic has become trite and clichéd.

Reminds me of Nightmares of Future's Past. The guy had a good idea for a time-travel story, but so many people took the idea and put it in their own shitty story.

That's actually perfect. Is there a way to sticky that in the library?
