A rather interesting look into Dumbledore's mind about his feelings toward his manipulations in Harry's life.

Yeah, I read this ages ago. It's good - interesting, anyway.

Interesting story, I liked the POV of the story, and it was good for a one shot. 4/5

Yeah, this was surprisingly good. It was short and sweet, but it is IMO a very accurate picture of what must have been going through Dumbledore's mind as he watched Harry grow up.

It's all the more remarkable that this came out in 2004, prior to the release of HBP. It turned out she was dead on about Dumbledore engineering Harry's life, although canon Dumbledore wanted a hero willing to endure unending suffering and sacrifice rather than a true weapon. Say what you will about his goals or his 'love' for Harry--the man was an utter bastard.

A rather haunting look at truly possible motivations and thought-processes. 4.5/5

Very moving and introspective one-shot. This actually didn't make me think of Dumbledore as a bastard. If we look at it, it seems that he is stuck between two unappetizing choices. As the story says, it is really a choice between one child and the rest of magical Britian. What other choice did he have? He thought it was what was needed to save lives. While the results do not justify the means, sacrifices are necessary.

This one has long been on my favorites list. The author has a bunch of other oneshots that are equally good.

    4/5.
