Is there any good, well written stories out there where Harry becomes an Animagus early on and actually uses the skill frequently?

 

Thief of Hogwarts by Clell has him as a cat animagus with interesting interactions with Tonks, but idk how it has held up through the passage of time.

 

Read it over like 5 times already, sadly. Good fic, but I'm putting off reading it again for a while before I get back into reading it over again, lol.

 

Clell? I'm wondering which Clell fic you're thinking of that had animagus... Thief is bluminous8 (aaltwal) - really good stuff.

I went through my favourites list - these are the half decent ones... some more than others. I like the transformation genre & there's so much shit out there whose summaries aren't even worth reading... Dragon is really short, but captures the proper spirit of what an strong!Harry animagus story should be.

Trying to using another form as a power/main feature is tricky. Thief does it well, in that he uses it for many different purposes and it advances the story as well. In something like Magician, Harry has his polar bear form & kicks ass with it (like in the brothel - that was great)... mind you, in the latest chapter I wonder why he just doesn't throw a spell instead of put himself in close range as a bear? It's not like a last resort thing - that seems to be his first choice... Anyways it's not an 'animagus story', but rather the alternative form used very well to fight, it's written well & exciting.

HarryXHermione, and they both become animagi. And good lord is it long. And complete too surprisingly.

 

Vox Corporis was one of the first Harry Potter fanfics I'd read and liked, but if I read it again now I'd probably find it a little dated. The romance was a bit overdone too, but still tolerable. Though if memory serves I'm one of the few that actually likes Harry/Hermione around here, so I might have tolerated it better than others.

I liked how the Animagi process was explained in it too. I haven't read many fics where it got a lot of attention.

 

Vox Corporis is kind of a generic fic for any animagi fan, is it not? I read it a while back, and really not much of it held my interest besides the animagus stuff.

 

If you say so. It's the only Animagus fic I've read that comes to mind, so it's the only one I can recommend.

 

I did one once where Harry's animagus form was Cthulhu, something he cottons onto rather early in life. Dunno if it's the sort of thing you're after.

It's a bit overwrought, to be honest. I was aiming for Lovecraftian tone, but ended up with merely "verbose and mildly constipated."

 

Harry escapes from Dursleys as kneazle animagus (idea from "The Natural Animagus" turned into a properly done story). I liked plot, characters and humour. For example it a good example of properly handled Ron.

Note: typical DLP humour and my humour seems to be disjointed.

Warning: Massive amount of Ginny and other Weasleys (properly done, avoids fails from canon, but haters should avoid).

I don't know, I mean I laughed a bit. It wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination. If I had tried something like that it would have come out terrible.

 

Interesting, mainly in the form of "The marvel is not that the bear dances well, but that the bear dances at all." but still interesting.

 

Ugghh, well I read that Kneazle harry thing. I decided to give the Harry/Ginny thing a go, but then I couldn't keep on going when Ginny became a Lion animagus with no formal training whatsoever.

2/5 fic imo, and only because of good spelling and grammar.

 

I wouldn't call it a 2/5 fic. Some parts are a bit grating but the writer really puts effort into how a Kneazle socialized human would act and approach problems with a comedy twist. The little things are quite fascinating *if* you can deal with the Ginny parts. IMHO it's an unique fic(s) which might not be for everyone but should be checked out.
