Samura Champloo is probably a better description, now that you mention it.

Honestly, that doctor part just made me wonder why the other thugs didn't have guns

Watched the first two episodes of Classroom Crisis, it's managed to maintain my attention but I can't say anything in it is brilliant, it seems like it'll just be a solid addition to the season at the moment.

GATE had it's moments and had a very good start, but the Patriotism/Nationalism shit will eventually start grinding on my nerves if it gets any worse and until the entered through the Gate the second half of the ep fell kinda flat for me.

Waiting a few days before I get Overlord but those 3, Gangsta and maybe Shimoneta based on it's reception seem like my Summer list.

Prison School was apparently censored. Dropped before I even have to watch a single episode, in that case. Bah.

I wouldn't drop it just yet. I remember that there was always a first, censored version for Highschool DxD too, before a second, uncensored one was uploaded a few hours later.

My theory for that back then was that the airing times in Japan correspond with the age of the audience, so it's normal that the uncensored version would come later.

At least I hope that's the case.

My childhood is ruined. I just watched the first Dragonball Super episode, but (as it should be expected) it's in Japanese. I never watched it in anything but German before, and I'm shocked, appalled, horrified, and many more things at Goku sounding like an old woman (and then, on further research, even being an old woman born somewhere in the 30s.)

Maybe it's a fair bit of childhood nostalgia that makes me despise this, but holy cow. I don't even...

But I guess it was to be expected. The characters in DBZ are mostly angry when they fight and scream. There's no language that lends itself to anger like German.

    German Goku

Goku's Kamehameha at 1.30 is especially awesome. I can't even comprehend how it would sound from that 70/80 year old woman...

Yeah, I watched that new movie about the gods which was the first time I ever watched subs for DBZ instead of English dub. It was...a disturbing change.

Just watched the first episode, and wow, that's torture, man. Don't think I can watch this with subs.

Gangsta is looking great so far. Aside from that, Prison School had some funny moments but the censoring is horrendously done. God Eater was just meh.

On the subject of Dragon Ball Super...

I enjoyed the first episode. Very reminiscent of a classic DBZ filler episode. Lighthearted, fun, and nothing much happening. That said, I think I would have appreciated it more if it wasn't the first episode. When looking back at earlier Dragon Ball series, the first episodes tend to have more impact - an impact that this first episode lacked.

Say what you want about GT, Goku getting turned into a kid in the first episode was, while stupid looking back on it, really left me with a feeling of "holy crap what just happened". And the first episode of DBZ speaks for itself.

Dragon Ball Super definitely should have started on a stronger note.

Another thing I found bothering me was the art style. Felt too... clean. For me, Dragon Ball looks best with a rough, older look to it.

On the subject of Goku's voice... Give it time. You'll get used to it. Probably. I did, in any case. Obviously I still prefer his dubbed voice, but the JP dub becomes more bearable over time.

Also, after watching DBZ Abridged, not sure I can get back to the fights where they just growl at each other and charge their attacks while the camera lingers over the barren wasteland that is the landscape they are fighting in.

    Has anyone watched Gate?

So far, pretty average modern army in historical setting... with dragons.

    I enjoyed Gate.

It has some serious work to do in order to stay interesting now that the superiority of the invading forces is established, but the switches between dark and humorous were well-handled. We haven't seen much of the protag so far, but I like him. Also, waifu...

Just caught up with gangsta. Perhaps my expectations were too high, what with these comparisons to action classics people are throwing around, but I wasn't all that impressed.

This is the type of show that fits firmly into a genre I like to call Sheinen, i.e. tons of dumb shounen tropes hidden in a thin seinen wrapper.

The overblown 'untouchable tough guy toughness' of the main chars was pretty grating by the end of the first ep, and when they started talking about the classes and power levels of 'Dogtags' in ep 2 I was just rolling my eyes.

I think the most disappointing aspect though is the deaf guy. Seems to me like they're trying to mix the calm aloofness of Spike Spiegel with the combined bloodlust of Alucard and Revy. It's an interesting trait blend... I really want it to work... but the execution is lacking.

TL;DR - It could be so much better.

Gangsta was made for a female audience, specifically the ladies who are into "oyaji." It might have action beats, but its action leads are grizzled badasses and not young punk kids or femme fatales. For crying out loud, Nic and Worrick inspired someone to make lingerie based off them.

Gate is garbage worse than Terraformars that has brief, amazing flashes of entertainment.

    Case in point:

I don't know if I'm the only one here watching "Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace", but it's definitely one of the better anime this season. It's gruesome, macabre, and completely messed up. I'm loving it to bits.

Everything this season just isn't working for me which sucks but alas.

Rokka no Yuusa and Jitsu wa Watashi are the last two I'm going to test, a friend loves them.
