I've read the most popular ones like Bringer of Death, Break through the limits and The Long Road.

Anyone got any not so popular ones?

 

The Optimised Wish Project by GanHOPE326 is okay. There is also Kakarot and the Quest for the Dragonballs by Lord22. Neither of those are self-inserts, but neither were the ones you mentioned (at least the first two; I haven't read the last one).

It's a Raditz insert and it's pretty entertaining so far. Didn't know if I'd like it but it establishes a nice Saiyan dynamic and has good fights

 

I'm not sure if I have ever read a good fic that proclaimed itself as 'rational'. Something about that label sucks out all the fun of the original material.

 

I read this a while back when it first started, and it's a pretty good story, but something about the authors style/prose drove me up the wall. It's been long enough i don't remember details, but if memory serves the writing was just bad mechanically and the small annoyances built up until I couldn't keep reading it.

Par for the course with DBZ this though.

 

It's because rationalwank fics aren't about fun. They're about making sure everyone knows how super smart the author avatar is for being a metagaming munckin instead of an interesting character.

 

I don't really read it for Goku. My favorite part of this story is what was done with Puar.

He's a psychopath who ends up trying to kill Bulma and her parents for "stealing" Yamcha from him. It gets really horror-movie-ish with them running through their giant house trying to hide from and outsmart a shape-shifting monster.
