Here are four that you may not have heard of before:

The Deep (2010) 5.5/10 - 6 ep miniseries about a research team in a submarine who're following in the footsteps of the previous team which was lost with all hands, cause unknown. Stars Minnie Driver and James Nesbitt.

The Sandbaggers (1978) 9.0/10 - This is almost criminally unknown. If you can find it, seize it! It's a British Cold War spy drama with some of the tightest scripting and brilliantly realised characters that I've ever seen on television. I'm not a fan of old TV shows, but I can heartily recommend this one.

Archer (2009) 9.0/10 - The funniest James Bond parody ever. It'll go down with DLP's usual sense of humor nicely. "Oh, my God! You killed a hooker." "--Call girl! You said to call them call girls" "No, Cyril. When they're dead, they're just hookers."

Invasion (2005) 7.8/10 - A Florida township suffers a stealthy alien invasion in the aftermath of a hurricane. The park rangers, sheriff's dept., military, and many others all have their roles to play.

 

Only thing that I like that hasn't been said is Grey's Anatomy

 

Haven't seen them mentioned yet but Skins and, to a lesser degree, Shameless can be quite good shows.

Skins is a British show where the teenage cast change every two seasons. Lots of sex, alcohol and drugs and a few episodes are quite funny. Season five starts soon in the UK as well so might be worth a watch.

Shameless is quite hard to capture in a few words but if forced I would use sex, alcohol, drugs, violence, drugs and alcohol. Also, Frank (the main character) is one of my favourite characters in the history of television. There are already a number of seasons though and I have only seen a few episodes but I would give it a shot as from what I gather each season can be viewed on its own without great dependancy on previous ones.

 

Has anyone mentioned Oz yet? It's an awesome show, even if the plots got a little more ridiculous towards the end. Ryan O'Reily is such an awesome character.

 

Farscape. One of the best sci-fi shows out there. Bit campy in the first season, though not bad except for the two or three episodes. Season 2 also had a couple bad episodes early on, but about episode nine onwards it became utterly brilliant until it finished.

Deadwood. Western. Complex, sometimes overly so. But once you get used to the excessive swearing, it's a fantastic story about the formation of the town Deadwood in California. Lots of power struggles, lots of backstabbing, and plenty of awesome. Ian McShane's best role.

Kings. A short lived show loosely based on the story of David but set in a modern environment. Only lasted 13 episodes, but it was fantastic. Quite a few DLPers enjoyed it when it aired in 2009. Ian McShane is awesome again.

I second the British (i.e. the real one) version of Life on Mars. And it's sequel Ashes to Ashes. The latter took several episodes to pick up, but once it did it was as good as Life on Mars was, in a different way. I also second Buffy and Angel. Great shows in their own right, though I find Buffy S1 too cheesy/corny to watch these days.

Alias. First two and a half seasons were excellent. Then something changed and the quality dropped. I stopped my re-watching at the end of season three. I believe J.J. Abrams left to start Lost mid-way through the season and that's probably what killed the show. Watching it through to that point, at least, is totally worth it. Spy action thriller with a bit of sci-fi. Jennifer Garner was awesome in this era (though her crying was terrible in the early episodes).

 

Second Kids in the Hall - original show, not Death Comes to Town. Couldn't sit through that.

 

Already mentioned The Wire, which really is a /thread, but Californication and Mad Men popped into my head. So seconded, if they're already mentioned.

 

Why hasn't Quantum Leap been mentioned yet? That show is just packed full of awesome.

Also Moonlight. It's vampires but it's actually kinda good.

Rome has already been mentioned but I'd second third and fourth that. Best show ever.

 

Maybe it's just me, but out of all the shows that came out in the last couple years, I love Human Target. Good acting, likeable characters, and incredible stuntwork make this a hell of a show.

 

That'd be Spacecast.com. I couldn't view the vids there anyway. The Todd eps are all region locked to Canada. I did manage to find the first 5 eps elsewhere... and colour me impressed.

Todd and the Book of Pure Evil is a super cheesy Buffy-like series with some Wayne's World and Bill & Ted thrown into the mix. Instead of a Buffy-like ass kicker, our hero is Todd, a wannabe heavy metal guitarist, highschool student, and stoner. The hero, the one-armed sidekick, the hot girl and the nerdy girl team up. They're trying to stop the Book of Pure Evil which grants warped wishes to emotionally troubled people, ie. hormonal teenagers.

This isn't Shakespeare, but Todd and the Book of Pure Evil doesn't pretend to be. It plays everything for low budget laughs. The first 3 eps were a bit rough as the show was finding its footing, but things picked up for eps 4 and 5. Apparently season one gets even better.

Everything on FX seems to be worth watching, especially:

The League, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Justified.

/Seriously, FX is the SHIT.

Sons of Anarchy. Can't believe I forgot that one.

 

Some time around '04 or '05, FX and USA both decided to stop sucking.

I have no clue why, but I love it.

 

If I'm going to watch just one season of this, which is the best one? According to Metacritic, Season 6 [2010] was the best, but the sample pool is tiny.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, as I didn't read through all four pages, but Californication is the best show on Showtime and it's just started back with the first episode of Season 4. David Duchovny (from the X Files fame) plays Hank Moody, a middle-aged writer with a penchant for bedding hot women, drinking and smoking far too much, and getting himself in some seriously hilarious situations.

It's pretty fucking awesome to be honest. My personal favorite show.

EDIT. Holy fuck it's on the same page as this post. Point still stands though.

 

'Green Wing' is probably my favourite comedy series ever - think Scrubs, but British and much more surreal. 'Episodes' has only just started, but seems pretty good so far.

Most of my other shows of choice have been posted already, but I'd also suggest 'Due South'.

 

In terms of cartoons watch ReBoot, first season is a little rough but the characters go a lot of development. It was one of the best western cartoons in existence.

 

I'll second Due South, it's an excellent show from the 90's about a Mountie, his wolf, and his sleazy partner, a Chicago cop.

If you're at all interested in anime I suggest The Vision of Escaflowne, another awesome product of the 90's.
