Maybe, with the destruction of each Horcrux, Voldemort becomes weaker and weaker until, with only the seventh of his soul still in his body, his power is only a seventh of its full potential. That means that Harry will only be slightly overmatched since he's such a pathetic pussy.

I was thinking this as well, simply because that's the ONLY way i can imagine the current canon!harry taking on voldemort and winning. But IMO, it's not that believable. The horcruxes where only described as being away to tie your soul to this plane, i don't think it's mentioned at all in canon that the horcruxes give more power to the maker. The only way i can find it concievable is if the souls of a person are taken to be their 'life force,' so voldemort would deminish in ALL ways without the parts of his soul, not just magically. I think if JK does this, it's just a way of making harry have an easy time, she makes voldemort weaker when harry (somehow...)manages to track down and destroy the horcruxed, and harry becomes more powerful through 'teh awesum powah of da ginslut!!1!'

Really is that so? I never considered this! Say does that mean that Voldemort is weak minded too? I remember him using verbal spells in the memory of his seventh year at Hogwarts when he was the headboy. Say most adult wizards use verbal magic unless they are forced to cast silently like in ootp when Hermione silenced the deatheater. Oh, and I am sure the fact that Harry hates Snape had nothing to do with his ability to learn magic. Hey wait a sec, didn't Harry put up a fight when Snape tried to enter his mind in hbp? It took Snape a bit of effort to see into Harry's mind.

Has anyone else noticed that when Harry doesn't think about casting a spell he can cast the spell perfectly? The patronus charm in his third year, the spells in Snape's book, and the banishing charm in his fourth year? In fact if I remember it correctly didn't Harry cast the banishing charm silently? I think he was preoccupied talking to Hermione or listening to her and he just flicked his wand and it the object he was banishing went into the box. I don't know this for sure but I think that is what the book said.

There's a difference between wizards who can do non-verbal magic and choose not to sometimes (e.g. Voldemort), and wizards who are incapable of doing it, such as Harry. I find it hard to see that you didn't see this, so either you're really stupid, or trolling. Neither are good.

That's just another sign of Harry's incompetence. Allowing his emotions to get in the way of making himself stronger to defeat Voldemort is a weakness.

Erm..no, Harry didn't put up a fight. It took Snape mere seconds to find the image of the HBP's Potions book.

I'm thinking that when all his Horcruxes are intact, Voldemort has his full power. As soon as they start getting destroyed, he starts losing power. With each one destroyed, he loses a seventh of his soul and a seventh of his power. I'm not saying that having Horcruxes makes him more powerful, I'm saying that his soul and his power have been requisitioned into seven different receptacles. So when one of those receptacles is destroyed, the contained fragment of his soul and the contained bit of power also get destroyed.

Harry supposedly has a 'Power the Dark Lord knows not'. I'm assuming that Dumbledore thinks this unknown power will stop Voldemort, and that he himself also has no fucking clue as to what that power could be.

Maybe that's why he lets Harry get into such a wide variety of shit; to try and prod this unknown power out into the open so he can figure out how to drop Voldemort with it. Love? I bet that's just a random answer pulled from some 'hidden power' revealing magic 8-ball.

Let me give it a try...*SHAKE!-SHAKE!-SHAKE!-SHAKE!-SHAKE!*...and my 'power the Dark Lord knows not' is...the Autobot Matrix of Leadership! Whoo-hoo, alright!

I got the touch, duh-duh...duuuh! I got the power! Duh-duh duuuh! When all hell's breakin' loose, I'll be ridin' the eye of the storm!

First off I didn't say that Voldemort couldn't I said he didn't in the memory and that most wizards will only use it when they are forced to. Did you ever consider the fact that it takes a lot of concetraition to cast these spells and this concentraition could be better spent watching their surroundings during a duel? Besides we don't know enough about wordless magic to say if it can even be used with every spell. The problem that really bothers me about the fact that Voldemort doesn't use wordless magic very often is the fact that he likes to show that he is better than all of the other wizards and wordless magic is not something that most wizards bother with mastering. So why then does Tom not use it all of the time? This completely goes against his character.

Agreed, he should not let it get in the way of learning but he does as do all people. Have you ever not done something that you know would help you just because you hated someone?

Yes, mere seconds which proves my point. He should have been able to do it instantaneously.

In that thing you call a closet. Better watch out,
Maybe because he rather have people underestimate him, than know he can own there ass whenever he wants, prompting them to train harder.

Wait. He's Slytherins descendant, he can't be cunning. Oops, my bad.

Since when did being someone's descendant make you cunning? Also, I never said Tom wasn't cunning in fact he is probably one of the most cunning wizards in HP, but he gains a lot of power in battle through the fear he inspires and it is fear which is his main weapon and since silent casting would only inspire more fear that makes your argument flawed. This could mean however that the dark lord shows his power by not using silent casting to prove that even without using this type of magic he is more powerful than the other wizards. The problem with this is the fact that weather or not he is cunning is not the point. His personality is that of a perfectionist. He is compelled to be the best and needs for people to see he is the best so then he should want to show his abilities with nonverbal magic as it would cause more fear than the other possibility I mentioned.

[BEGIN RANT]After reading this thread, and replying to it, I am now convinced that most of the members of DLP can now be classified as 'fangirls'. I have read through most of this board and have come to the conclusion (along with half a bottle of rum) that most of the members here would rather see Harry go kill the world, find out that he's a pureblood, kill voldemort and dumbledore (althought nobody can type the whole name, they must use the nicknames 'dumbles' (AKA the-stupidest-nickname-ever) or Dumblefuck (god, it might just be worse), take over the world (only the magical one of course) and find out that he's a multi-bazillionare thanks to Griphook) AND on TOP of that, they must each realise that Harry does not belong with 'Ginslut' nor with 'Herman', but Harry must have horribly written sex with either Girl!Blaise, Daphne, Pansy, or Susan Bones, and has to have the fifteen foot dick of Male!Veela Death, Elemental Magic, Runes, Wandless, Wordless, and Invincible magic along with innumerable other attributes that the author will forget about in two chapters ... RATHER THAN having a well written novel of any sort of proper english...Or respect the Canon world that JKR has created for us Fan-Authors to muddle around in... and I have to say... I'm rather disgusted with the newbies of DLP...please...grow up and stop complaining about things we've resolved months ago and have realised cannot be changed[/END RANT]

Yeeeaaaaah... anyway, nice sig. Pink is very nice.

Hmm... so, anyway, Dumbledore training Harry? Well, obviously, JKR thinks he good enough as he is... this 'Power the Dark Lord knows not' will probably be the factor that decides the final outcome. Personally, it would amuse me greatly if Voldemort won, but of course, good always defeats evil, so I cant see that happening in a million years. Especially when this is turning out like a fairy tale with the unrealistic sudden attraction Harry had to Ginny Weasley, but I wont get you folks started on that.

Now, taking the author out of it, why wouldnt Dumbledore train him? Once again the answer is the same, though directed at a different person, he obviously believes that it wont matter how many spells/cool magic/ect that Harry can use at the end of the day, but his 'ability to love' is what will make all the difference. We might not like it, and I sure as hell dont, but that's just the facts.

Umm... yeah. I guess that's it... errr... yeah. No, wait.... no, that's it.

I have a bad feeling that Rowling will have Harry stab Voldy with Gryffindor sword. Which is just retarded, i mean why bother going to HOgwarts if all your going to do is stab Voldy. Just grab and Uzi and pump him full of lead. I think that Rowling lost her way, she had a great story at the beginning, potential for greatness was there but she just ended up fucking it all up just so she could make the gin slut fans happy.

But either Harry is really a dumb ass like Ron or he just does not apply himself on things he finds difficult and thats mostly because of being friends with Ron Weasley. I mean you would think that after being around Hermione for so long he would learn from her but no.

This leads to another point i wanted to make, those who are Muggle born who have no idea of being magical till they are 11 are the ones who work hard in Hogwarts. Those who are pure blood (e.g Ron and Malfoy) who know all about magic are lazy and do nothing to excel choosing to whine all about Mudbloods and the joining Voldy, the easy way out.

I just don't know how to explain Harry, some one want to try?

for those who say that with each horcruxes he will become weaker i think thats wrong based on the following

    pg.509 u.s edition HBP
"yes, I think so,"without his horcruxes, voldemort will be a mortal man with a maimed and diminished soul. Never forget though, that while his soul may be damaged beyond repair, his brain and his magical powers remain intact. It will take uncommon skill and power to kill a wizard like voldemort even without his horcruxes

  14. Dumbledore doesnt train Harry because the outcome in inevtiable, Harry will defeat Voldemort. JKR is not Tolkein, she did not create a functional world with history and then tell its tales, she wrote a morality tale for children about good vs evil. Her world is not logical nor is it meant to be, it is a 'magical' world indeed.

Im not really sure how to make myself anymore clear....does anyone get what im saying?

The fact that Snape is the one teaching him would have an effect on his skills. Look at his treatment of other students - he belittles, taunts and insults them on a regular basis. Is that a good learning enviroment? I would bet a lot of money on Snape interrupting students halfway through casting a spell so they don't learn properly.

In HBP he really didn't get much of a chance to cast a non-verbal spell (mostly because Ron couldn't do the jinx) but had to rely on yelling out 'Protego' when Snape tried to hex him. Though that account for his general laziness.

    Okay My Turn!!

Okay it boils down to two separate things.

1: Tom Riddle is strong, talented, brillant, and has lots of knowledge about magic. He was best in his year all through school probably the best in the school most of the time. He got to Hogwarts and learned all he could. He graduated. He travelled the world learning all he could. He grew stronger, undergoing rituals and the like, he became more skilled as he travelled. Tom Riddle came back to Hogwarts wanting to teach just so he could get his claws into the little brats. He became a Dark Lord not long after leaving Hogwarts. Some say he was one of his predecessors followers. I personally see him as becoming one og Grindwalds followers. After Dumbles won Tom fought his way up through the ranks of the darker aspects of society learning and growing stronger all the while. When he started his attacks in Britan he was still growing stronger. He became roughly Dumbles equal in power and skill. Dumbledore ADMITS this in PS. He has no equals mostly likely that will stand up against him except Dumbledore.

2: Harry Potter is strong, talented and lets all go to fucking hell. You would think he would start learning when he got there but no he wastes the chance. He isnt the beaver but he is smart. Ron corrupts him. later the rest of the Red Haired rats corrupt him. When the Beaver said they stopped having the Triwizard because of the death toll you would think he would study and learn all he could to keep that from happening to him. He is in a competetion meant for 7th years not 4th years. But no he is content to give himself a good fat old chance at dieing. He studies and learns a bit before the 3rd task which saved his life in the maze. 5th year he knows Tom's back and he still doesnt do shit knowing Tom want him dead. Harry has will power. I personally believe Harry forced Tom out of his head in the DOM even though Harry didnt do it. I dont believe for a second that love is the power. 6th year He knows the fucking reason why Tom came after him and he still just sits on his ass and does nothing besides getting his ass handed to him by Snape and tailing Draco for no good reason when he should have been preparing to face Tom.

Okay so there it is. Harry Potter has no chance in hell of beating Tom logically. Harry has power and he is talented but he wasted it. Power without Knowledge is useless.

If Harry had 50 years he couldnt be Tom's equal, maybe in power but definitly not in ablity or knowledge.

Dumbledore believes Love will save Harry which is very stupid in my opinion. So no He didnt train him.
