Aaah, I didn't like this at all.

I always thought Arithmancy was a kind of science of magic, calculating spell power and effects and sued for spell sreation, stuff like that.

The idea that it's just some kind of cheap numerology/astrology crap ticks me off.

 

I think that it is the art of creating spells, but since Harry didn't take the subject, we will never know for sure.

 

Personally I prefer to write Arithmancy as a sort of magical science covering things like spell creation. The true meaning of the word, however, and what I think JK Rowling had in mind when she wrote the books, is 'Divination by means of numbers'.

 

Divination by means of numbers? That sounds so stupid. I prefer spell creation.

If Hermione thinks Divination is crap and a waste of time, then why does she love Arithmancy so much if it's basically the same damn thing?

 

I was thinking the same thing when I first read that Hermione was so into Arithmancy. You know, I'm now wondering if JK even knew what Arithmancy was?
