I find it weird that a thread for this show doesn't already exist considering its massive popularity.

ANYWAY, I'm finally getting around to watching this show since the first season looks to be wrapping up soon. Two episodes in so far.

My complaints about the animation still stand. The characters are all nice and pretty, and the titans are all suitably horrifying, but the complete lack of actual movement for all but what the show wants you to focus on is jarring enough for me to keep being distracted by it. Considering the budget that the show obviously has, the lack of even minor mouth or arm movement is really weird.

I am glad that when the show first came out it got me to read the manga. I get the feeling that now that I'm actually watching the show I'll be able to appreciate all the Checkovs it throws in.

    WARNING! SPOILERY RANT!

Let's see. The idea is awesome. I kind of like the show... That said, a lot of stuff sucks about it.

    1. Most characters seem unaware of the fact that there is another way of communicating with another human being aside from shouting. Eren, I'm looking at you in particular. Like most anime, the characters do not talk like actual human beings...

    2. There is a character named Hannes, but he's a complete pussy. This is not okay. ^^

    3. Nobody ever seemed to go through the scripts for flaws in the logic. I can buy characters screwing things up in the heat of the moment, that's fine. But seriously, think about it.

In the episode with the rock, why lift it as opposed to push it? It's a perfectly spherical fucking rock. Pushing means you can defend yourself, too.

Same episode. 1/5 of the soldiers died OFF FUCKING SCREEN. Seriously. Considering their mission, how the FUCK did that happen?

They were not even supposed to engage. I get trying to portray the horror of war, but if that's what you're going for, SHOW DONT TELL.

Yet again, same episode. They run out of gas. Seeing as the gas is a vital part of their armies mobility. Why is ALL OF IT stored in a single bloody warehouse that is apparently easily taken? Why not store some on the rooftops of the city?

If I notice clearly retarded things about their strategy, so should the General of their stupid army. (Who is a complete fucking BAMF, by the way.)

Another thing that really screws the story over are the constant pointless (internal) monologues. Sometimes about whatever "deep" feelings the character may have about certain order they're given, etc.

The worst part being that they're often repeated, more than once. Would it not be better to put focus on the relationships between the characters? Hell. A few scenes of the three main characters interacting together, whether in a casual manner (perhaps a flashback) or just in the field, would really be nice.

The constant questioning and/or disregard for orders. I mean, considering that mutiny is punishable by death (as has been established) people either spend a shitload of time thinking about the orders they've been given and their validity.

Or outright disobey them. Done the right way, as in the scene when a lot of them are sent to fight the titans, that's fine. But in the scene where Levi tells his soldiers to chill the fuck out and nobody gives a single shit... That just gets annoying after a while.

Ah... That felt good to get out.

/me notes down: Zeelthor's real name is 'Hannes'.

I don't understand Zeelthor's critics, perhaps the shouting - but then - considering the situations the protagonists are in, it's explainable.

The animation of quite a lot scenes is rather bad. It's like early Naruto episodes and for quite a while I haven't seen a show where it is that obvious that certain animations aren't animated at all.

Now I am reading the manga. The plot itself is great at first, and okish later on.

Doubtful. While Attack on Titan is great and wonderful and immensely popular, it's still far too new and untested for a live-action adaptation. Less than fifty chapters and twenty-five episodes do not generate enough faith in a movie company to draw up a movie--especially when there's five years until the supposed release date. Just look at how quickly even the 'blue-collar' mangas such as Naruto and Bleach went downhill in far less a span.

Don't really see the appeal in a live action movie, to be honest. Seems doubtful that it can capture the action scenes even only half as well. Those guys mainly grapple around in the air at high speeds around giants. Not sure if that translates well into CGI. Also doubtful that the Titans will look good or creepy. They look silly even in animation at times, so....

    Meh.

Not sure if it'd be doable. But I'd watch the shit out of it.

Of course it would be doable. Just think of the Quidditch games.

Though if it looks good depends on the fantasy of the director and the money they are allowed to spend.

Okay... Episode 22. Why did they not kill off that stupid fuck who disobeyed a direct order?

Because it's an anime original scene to pad out the episode and the studio can't into writing.

Same thing that resulted in Mikasa's ridiculous "Hurp durp my body is jumping around like a retarded acrobat on its own why do I want to live" bullshit.

I thought that Mikasa scene was actually mostly in the manga anyways? Maybe not identical (I guess the fruit wasn't there or something), but mostly unchanged.

They didn't kill the idiot who defied orders because they didn't need to. Levi's point was made when his warning actually happened and that idiot's friend died. Really, the interesting thing about that sequence was the fact that Levi lied about the patch (also, it's implied that the patch Levi gave him was Petra's.)

This was a pretty good episode. Not the best, but after the basically non-stop incredible set of episodes that was the rest of the mission, that's not surprising.

He directly disobeyed orders and got several people killed, and there was no recourse. That's not how a military works. Of course they're not going to just kill him, but it being treated as a minor mistake rather than a direct breach of his oath is dumb as shit and completely at odds with the setting.

No, it wasn't remotely similar in the manga. In the manga Mikasa sat down ready to die, remembered Eren saving her, decided to live and got back up, all before the Titan reached her. When it did it was killed by Eren. There was no retarded flipping around.
