I'm not sure you do. Given how slow the pacing was covering how many chapters it did, if they did it right now it would be like Dragon Ball Z levels of slow.

Well I suppose they could do a 12 episode season or something.

Yeah, waiting in the off-season sucks.

    I've read up to
    Pastor Nick being murdered
    in the manga...

An idea I was toying with to figure in my storyline is
The concept of falsified history. The humans first finding the walls 100 years ago is commonly accepted. That's when the Titans appeared, that's when humanity's armies were crushed. Literature of the outside world and of civilization prior to the Titans is forbidden, and those that exist and found by Eren and members of the Scouting Legion are questionable in their authenticity. Truth or lies?

Also, I'm trying to figure out some of the butterfly effects of Eren choosing to fight alongside the Special Operations Squad against the Female Titan in the forest... not everyone dies, [the Female Titan is captured.

    • Now the secret of
the colossal Titans within the walls
doesn't get revealed the same way as in canon...
    • Reiner and Bertholdt may act, or bide their time because Eren is still their priority.
    • The Scouting Legion has won political influence and standing... Irvin might defend his division and Eren at the court martial by insinuating that the Military Police is treacherous, pointing out the Female Titan's controller was in their ranks and that more shifters and spies might be there.
    • The objective of reaching the basement remains unfulfilled. The Scouting Legion may have to restructure its ranks given the losses sustained in the expedition... and other factions such as the royal family, wall cult, military police may have an interest in seeing that Eren and the Recon Corps don't reach the basement (first, at least).

What I also find interesting is the relationship between the royal family-wall-cult-military police triad... for all of the intrigue and conspiracy elements, in the manga they come off as one monolithic league so far. Any thoughts on that?

I've just finished an SnK binge, from page 1 of the manga to the recently released chapter. It was fantastic. Interesting and distinct characters, in an original and engrossing plot, while being handling certain themes (adolescence, death, militarism) well enough.

Does anyone else also agree that Shingeki no Kyojin reminds them of Full Metal Alchemist? In its themes, setting and style. It compares very favourable, I think.

Well, the manga's finally finished and I think I now understand how Game of Thrones fans felt.

After all that we're given a fucking Zero Requiem!? Only even stupider? Eren genocides 80% of the world and lets his friends kill him so they'll be seen as heroes to the rest of the world and they can act as ambassadors and negotiate a peace. The problem with this plan is that nobody wants peace. The outside world was all set to genocide Paradis before and an apocalypse won't have changed their minds, only their ability to carry it out for the moment, and in Paradis Eren's Blackshirts are in control and we outright see the island preparing to finish his work.

Eren's character was assassinated to a degree that I'm almost convinced it was deliberate. Instead of him committing total genocide after coming to the monstrous but still logical and completely character consistent conclusion that peace was impossible and the only way he and his people could be truly free was if everyone else was dead. He commits near-total genocide and passes the buck of creating peace to his friends despite him having made that even more of an impossibility and causing titans to no longer exist despite that being Paradis' only trump card in a war. Armin talking down the Marleyans after the fight seems to be implying that since Eldians can't turn into titans anymore then the world has no more reason to hate them. Except that wasn't even the justification people gave for hating Eldians. It was collective guilt for their anscestor's crimes. A sentiment I can't imagine Eren helped with.

When Armin finally asks Erin why he chose to do all this Eren says that he doesn't fucking know! He says he just wanted to perform the rumbling despite it having been very clearly established that he absolutely doesn't want to and spent years desperately looking for another way out. He's apparently just been blindly following his visions of the future and past this whole time, despite him basically engineering this whole situation through control of the previous holders of the Attack Titan, to the extent of being directly responsible for his mother's death. Dina was about to eat Bertolt when he kicked in the wall so to preserve the timeline Eren directed Dina to eat his mother instead. It doesn't seem like he even tried to find another way, like sending Dina in one of the many other directions that exist.

In spite of all of Eren's freedom rhetoric, he never even tried to do what he actually wanted. He just went through the motions of his visions until Mikasa killed him. Eren is also apparently in love with Mikasa now, despite all previous evidence to the contrary. Why the hell didn't he have a relationship with her during the timeskip then? He was well aware she reciprocated.

The final chapter's revelations about Ymir were even worse. Prior to this, Ymir was presented a mindlessly obedient slave for 2000 years to whoever held the power of the Founding Titan because she had been so broken and conditioned that the only things she ever did of her own initiative were basically suicide attempts. Eren supposedly changed this by instead asking her to help him but telling it was completely her choice to do so and that she was a person with the right to be free and make her own decisions. It wasn't clear if Ymir was helping Eren out of gratitude or if she had her own agenda like hijack the rumbling and wipe out paradis too as revenge against humanity. The truth turned out to be so much stupider.

It turns out Ymir obeyed the Founding Titan out of love. For the original King Fritz. The man who murdered her family, burned down her home, cut out her tongue, enslaved her, was in the middle of hunting her for sport before she found the hallucegenia after which he decided to use her as a weapon and broodmare instead. Despite Ymir never showing love, desire for approval or even just fear of the man she obeyed his descendents without question for 2000 years to carry out his will because she loved him. Even doing things that would obviously be contrary to his will like destroying the Eldian empire and creating the fucking walls in the first place.

The only reason I can see for this nonsense was to create a parallel between Ymir and Mikasa as Ymir was riding around in Mikasa's mind as she decapitated Eren. This was to allow Ymir to symbolically do the same as Mikasa and sever the link between her and the man she loved and move on, causing the titans to disappear from the world. I don't understand how the author thought any of that was a good idea.

As for the rest of the cast, pretty much all of the remaining important characters, apart from Historia, put aside their differences and team up to stop Eren. While wanting to stop global genocide is in-character for all of them, none of them seem to consider the implications of their success, i.e. the rest of the world wiping out Paradis in retaliation. They don't even talk about it, as if because they have the moral high ground the obvious horrible consequences of their actions can be ignored.

So in the end, over a billion people died, the global ecology was devastated, none of the actual problems in the world were solved and everyone hates each other as much as ever. They'll just need to use conventional weapons to kill each other now instead of titans. Maybe that's why it was set in a World War I time period. Even if Armin and the others succeed in creating a peace treaty, it'll only do as much good as the Treaty of Versailles in the long run.
