Why is Team WE showcased? Were they in the playoffs or something and didn't make it?

No EG makes me sad, but I lost my shit at Dyrus.

 

Same reason Madlife (CJ Entus Frost), Scarra (Dignitas) and Forellenlord (Team Alternate) were featured. It's not specifically about worlds, it's about the guys who did cool stuff during Season 3.

Also because it takes months to animate something like that and they had no idea who would actually make it.

Not gonna lie, a Froggen!Anivia doing the chicken dance would have made the video 10x better.

 

Anyone from EG would have made the video better. They may not be the best players, but they are one of, if not the, most sociable and generally well-liked teams.

 

To be fair, EG didn't actually do anything this season - and I'm saying that as a fan of them. I can't think of a single memorable play they've made other than trolling Gambit in the final game of the season. They've been hovering somewhere between mediocre and terrible since the Season 3 patch hit.

The animation itself is 170 seconds long after you cut out the logos on either end. At a guess there are 24 frames every second for a total of 4080 frames. How long do you think it would take you to draw and colour a single frame of that animation, from scratch, to that same level of quality? An hour? Two? Call it an hour for ease of math and we end up with 4080 man-hours of animation. That's 170 days. 24 weeks. 6 months.

Now of course that's not entirely accurate. They have a small team of people doing the animating, not just one guy. And because it's that dumb anime bullshit, they get to take shortcuts and recycle the same frame for a few seconds while they pan across it. But there's a whole lot of other things the studio would have to do before they even think about starting the animation. They need to spend time researching Riot's champions. They need to design the pros characters. They need to storyboard the whole thing. They need to get the sound effects, music and voices done. They almost certainly need to seek Riot's approval after every single step.

High quality animation takes a really long time if you aren't just shitting out cartoons in Flash.

 

But this animation wasn't better than the usual anime quality. How long would a 20min episode take to make, according to you, considering that they are released weekly, usually?

 

Considering that it's probably the work of a very small team, a couple individuals, probably would take at most 2-3 weeks. I highly doubt it would take months.

 

I think you're massively underestimating the amount of work that goes into animation, but OK
