Quite a few of the Azkaban!Harry fics, have him serving only a certain amount of years at Azkaban. However, doesn't it say in the 3rd book, that being sent to Azkaban is a life sentance?

 

Most Azkaban!Harry stories has him breaking out of there, or he is proven innocent and so is freed, in both cases it is a life sentence before that happens.

 

No, Azkaban is not a life sentace. Hagrid got let out, although that was because he was proven innocent.

Both Morfin and Marvolo Gaunt were let out after their sentances had ended.

 

I must say that i thought azkaban was just like any other prison, with the dementors etc adding a little touch i suppose. didnt the guy from the order that got caught trying to steal the prophecy get a year in azkaban aswell?

 

Yeah, it's just like a normal prison from what I understood.

 

On a side note to what i said earlier, would it be that you can have a sentence in azkaban, even life in the prison for certain crimes but for things which are truley awful you would get the kiss, a fate worse than death but basically a death penalty.

 

Azkaban!Harry fics are stupid. Plain and simple. Why? BECAUSE HE DOES NOT GET REVENGE. He just rants and raves like an emo punk. So what? Screw that! If somebody screwed me over I screw them back. They send me to prison? I rip their balls out. Simple as that.

EDIT: I am not trying to sound arrogant or anything. But seriosly, if your friends who you would have trusted with your life send you to prison and betray you are you just gonna yell at them for a couple of minutes? HELL NO! You are gonna make em feel pain. And that is why I hate Azkaban fics. Which is why I am going to write my own azkaban fic right now!

 

Yeah, they are all quite the same. You read one, you read them all.

 

Plus everyone's favorite minor character (okay - I'm stretching it) Sturgis Podmore got like 6 months in Az for breaking into the DoM under the Imperious Curse.

You have a good point there. But if Rowling added all those itsy bitsy details the potter books would suck so much....

By the way, where does he get revenge? What fics? I will browse through the azkaban forums to find some.

 

hm. I suppose they call it a "life sentance" becasue spending only minutes in the precense of a dementor is unpleasant and terrifying for the average Wizard. Constant exposure to one, even after only a short period of time, would certainly make it's mark on the psyche. Thus, in a figurative sense, whether released or not, it would be difficult to move past that period in life.

(*blinks* I'm actually not sure if that made any sense. *shrugs* Ah well, I tried.)
