yeah... Batman is dead inside of the first 2 seconds of the fight if there is no plot armour for this shit. Lets hope there is no plot armour, just for a curve ball to fuck with the audience.

Imagine that. Batman squares off with Superman and boom! lobotomised Batman Drooling all over his new Ironman (the first suit that is built in the cave) look-a-like suit.

That would be fun compared to what stupid crap they are gonna pull out of their ass to make this into a fight that we all know Batman has no hope of winning, outside the fact that writers are gonna give him PLOT ARMOUR OF PLOT and somehow he is gonna pull it off. Or their fight will be interrupted in some way and they will come together to defeat this bigger evil. I bet you it's gonna happen either of the two has the same chance.

The movie will probably look amazing, but not much else.

Superman is supposed to be better and above normal humans, that's why Batman has to bet on Superman's restraint, otherwise he would have zero chances and he knows it.

From Justice League (TAS) - Destroyer

Darkseid: You still try to fight. Can't you see that it's hopeless?
Superman: That man won't quit as long as he can still draw a breath. None of my teammates will. Me? I've got a different problem. I feel like I live in a world made of cardboard. Always taking constant care not to break something. To break someone. Never allowing myself to lose control, even for a moment, or someone could die.
[Darkseid tries to attack, but Superman knocks him back]
Superman: But you can take it, can't ya, big man? What we have here is a rare opportunity for me to cut loose, and show you just how powerful I really am!

This gritty Snyder-Superman clashes painfully with the original Superman message and so they have to pull something out of their ass to make a conflict.

There was a shot of Bruce Wayne running into a dust cloud (end clash of Man Of Steel) and protecting a little girl with a Wayne sign laying right next to them. This is so unbelievably heavy-handed to have Bruce Wayne in Metropolis just to coincidentally witness Superman's destructiv power so he can see him as threat. Why not use the fucking Wayne satellite from the first movie as a gadget of Batman to spy on the kryptonians while he's preparing in the Batcave just for Superman to show up and deal with Zod?

Yet despite all the faults it will most likely have people (me included) will go and see it, it will make a ton of money and the spin-offs will follow.

I think people should worry far less about what Superman is "supposed to be", as if Superman is like a physical constant that you can get wrong, as just evaluate novel re-imaginings on their own merits.

I do worry about this movie on that basis. We've got two hero introductions to handle (Batman and Wonder Woman), Lex Lurthor to introduce, the fallout of Man of Steel to handle, and then the titular Superman v Batman plotline to cover in a satisfying way. I just don't see any way that can be done in a single film without it being a rushed mess.

I do enjoy the look of the political stuff with Superman, with people both for and against him, but I anticipate that what we see in the trailers is more or less all of that, because otherwise there won't be time for the Batman plot.

I think this Lex Luthor should be interesting. A villain for the internet age: not a middle aged tycoon, but a young upstart.

On top of all that, I also worry about the introduction of kryptonite, which I had (perhaps optimistically) thought they were going to skip in this franchise. I don't think I've ever seen kryptonite done well.

    Gal Gadot though.

There was really no way the premise of this movie would make sense without a powered down Superman. Kryptonite is just the most convenient (and predictable) way to go about it.

Hopefully they throw in a twist.

I have two main problems with kryptonite. Firstly, Superman's sensory abilities and reaction time means that he should be able to avoid it entirely, and yet he's always surprised by it. Secondly, in the event that he is affected by it, any villain that doesn't immediately shoot him in the face multiple times has destroyed all suspension of disbelief.

Well, that's he problem when you try to adapt a comic book sun god to the gritty big screen.

Maybe Batfleck will work it into his armor so the whole 'surprise buttseks' aspect of kryptonite isn't so prominent. That would be nice.

Looks like there are going to be too many things going on at once in this film, even if it's three hours long or so. Superman, Batman, Lex Luthor, and Wonder Woman because why not apparently. The inclusion of Kryptonite doesn't bode well either, leaving aside suspending disbelief as to how Batman is supposed to provide a realistic threat to Superman in any capacity. (Ditto on Taure's thoughts on Superman re: kryptonite)

I think if anyone ever took a serious take on a Speedster - aka what they could actually do - it would be a completely unfair conflict that's resolved instantly. It's weird how comics made Supes /too/ powerful and then just kinda end up depowering him artificially.

I don't necessarily know that it'll be that bad.

Luthor seems prominent but we don't know how much of Wonder Woman we'll she. She doesn't need to be more prominent than Marion Cotillard's character in Dark Knight Rises since she'll be off to do her own thing soon enough. That doesn't mean that she can't have an impact, just that she requires less screentime and build up.

So that leaves Luthor-who is the antagonist most likely- and Batman and Superman. That seems quite manageable.

Not really. Silver Age Superman was far less about danger or enemies or tension than it was about telling a far out, strange story. Superman issues were literally being written from the cover-page (that blurb where someone says something shocking) to the actual story.

Jimmy Olsen's learned Superman's secret? Well, now I have to read.

Jimmy Olsen and Aquaman are dying for a glass of water, and Superman doesn't wanna hand it over? What's this all about?

    Etc...

I would like to agree with you, but I'm half sure that that little girl is in fact Helena Wayne, so I'm prepared to fight you IRL instead.

Concerning Bruce Wayne in metropolis it is said that Gotham and Metropolis in this universe are sister cities place side by side.

Also I think Zod is going to be somehow reanimated and comes back as doomsday which is the big threat they have to unite to fight in the end.

I think he's just an excuse to show the effects of kryptonite.

Probably the most unrealistic part of the trailer was that Soyuz-2 rocket blowing up on the launchpad.

Otherwise, I'm cautiously optimistic. There's a lot of moving parts that could go very badly if not handled well, but it looks pretty good (with the exception of that shot of Bruce Wayne being engulfed in smoke; that looks like it's an unfinished effect). And Tao Okamoto is always a plus.

    Random thoughts.

Don't like Superman as a dangerous alien theme. It doesn't fit this character, but it's just my opinion and I won't hold it against the movie. How well they execute it is another matter. What I'm curious about is if it was really they plan all along or they pretend it was after the audience's reaction to a destruction of Metropolis.

Ben Affleck appears to be a really good Bruce and Batman. He has the most comics like costume too.

On the other hand something doesn't work for me with Superman's costume. It's too shiny in some scenes?

Not very surprisingly Jeremy Irons rules in his scenes, but I even more doubtful about Jesse Eisenberg. I remain unsure about Gal Gadot.

As for kryptonite, I would prefer if they used an interpretation in which its radiation is equally deathly to everyone. It would make it look a little less than a plot device used only to weaken Superman.

In the trailer there's a scene with two guards carrying a container with USMRIID (US Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases) on it. If kryptonite is going to be reimagined or somehow adapted into a disease that infects Superman, that would be interesting.

The best thing about the trailer thus far in my opinion is Gal Gadot.

It doesn't look like she's put on any muscle mass at all for the movie.

I seem to recall that being a bad idea for Kryptonians. Wasn't superman buried in the sun (with blue kryptonite?) once and then proceeded to get burnt alive, healed by the sun, burnt alive, etc until he managed to escape?
