Well seeing how it has already been necroed:

    Backspacer by Pearl Jam
Granted maybe not my favorite album of all time, but definitely the best I've heard in quite some time. Vedder and the whole crew seem so much happier and it's expressed in their music. The Fixer, Unthought Known, Amongst the Waves, and all of the songs on the album are worth listening to unlike on some of Pearl Jam's last albums. It's really a great sound for them in my opinion.

Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon and A Kid Named Cudi are two premo albums.

Innovative(to me) as far as modern hip-hop goes(I'll probably be shat on for that). Has a great mix of sound and lyrics, nothing too fast paced, and both albums are moderately mellow.

For Man on the Moon I favor, in no particular order:

    Solo Dolo(Nightmare)

Alive(Nightmare) Ft. Ratatat. <-- Small note, Ratatat is an awesome experimental electronic band that I favor, and I have some of their albums. They did good back up.

My World Ft. Billy Cravens. Another good song. Mellow, and slightly dark. I did enjoy it.

    For A Kid Named Cudi:

    Cleveland <-- Very good song.

The Prayer <-- Another very good song. It samples Band of Horses(is that right?) throughout the song.

Embrace the Martian <- Upbeat, slightly repetitive, nothing wrong with it though.

All in all, I've really been into Kid Cudi since I started listening to him. Most people know him through the Day N' Nite song he did that's been mixed to shit by now, as well as he did a song for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen called Sky Might Fall, its on the Man on the Moon album as well for those following.

@Necro-faggot: Why you gotta bump a thread with Emienem brah? I mean, sure Relapse was decent, but not that decent. Like, two songs that I enjoyed from that would be Hello and Beautiful because of the Freddie Mercury sampling put to good use.

A Strange Arrangement by Mayer Hawthorne.

In the spirit of the Quasi-necroposter's choice in artists, Hawthorne is another caucasian Detroit native exploring a historically black genre - in this case, old-school Motown R&B. The album is (thankfully) cover-free, and penned by Hawthorne himself. Stand-out tracks are the title track and "Ills."

    Biscuits for Breakfast by Fink

British electronica dj/producer-turned-folk singer/songwriter; one of my favorite artists. An overall extremely chill album meant for relaxing - though I find myself tutting/waving to a lot of the songs >.> Stand-out tracks include "Pretty Little Thing," "Pills In My Pocket," and "All Cried Out."

    The Human Equation by Ayreon

Ayreon is best described as a project masterminded by Arjen Lucassen, with a large line up of guest vocalists. The music tends towards progressive rock and metal, with most of the singers coming from those those genres. The Human Equation is just plain outstanding. As with all of Ayreon's albums, it is a rock opera, with each vocalist playing a specific part. The sheer ingenuity of the music and the way the singers each add exactly what sounds best in the part amazes me, though the lyrics can be a bit cheesy.

Destination Failure by Smoking Popes is pretty cool, though it's much more of a lighter rock than I usually listen to. Ironically, I only know of this because one of their songs was in an advert and it got stuck in my head.

First, to the necro'ing noob - Relapse was decent, but not his greatest work. 'Beautiful' and 'Underground' were solid, '3 AM' and 'Insane' were pretty good, and 'Stay Wide Awake' was surprisingly good, but I found the record to be rather mediocre, I'm not gonna lie. Bonus tracks were really good, though.

Danjam: Ayreon's awesome, can't really say much there. Liked the '01011001' album, but 'The Human Equation was pretty awesome, not gonna lie.

Current albums warring for spots in my playlist are:

    - 'Lightbulb Sun' by Porcupine Tree (link to a sample song)
    - 'Lipservice' by Gotthard (link to a sample song)
    - '1Up!' by illScarlett (link to a sample song)

Innerpartysystem and All the Rest from Innerpartysystem. Electronic tinted rock or rock tinted electronic sound, describe it as you will, they're fuck-all kinds of win.

The Presets' Apocalypso has some awesome tracks. And creepy videos. >_>

Not my favorite album, but I have to say that no matter how bad of a mood I'm in, listening to it always cheers me up. Favorite songs are "Talk Shows on Mute", "Beware! Criminal" and "Sick Sad Little World".

I have a far different taste in music to many here I would imagine. My favorite genre is Post-Rock, while I do listen to a range of other stuff, no where near as much as Post Rock. In that regard, I will agree with what Silens said, Relapse was decent, Stay Wide Awake probably being the best song on the album.

However, a couple of albums that are my favorites.

    BT - This Binary Universe

Possibly one of the best albums that I have ever heard. Its... hard to describe, it is all done by one guy on a computer, but it sounds incredible. I have it in flac for good reason.

Godspeed You! Black Emporer - Slow Riot for New Zerø Kanada

Godspeed was one of the first post-rock bands, and to this very day, it still remains the best, in my opinion. It has eleven members in the band, with most instruments covered. They remain the best, because no matter how much innovation that new bands try to come up with, they never manage to reach the same level of... passion in their music. Not to mention that the samples are amazing in it too.

While every single album by them is excellent, Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven is probably their second best.

Sigur Rós - ( ) Yes, it is called brackets

Probably one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces of music that I have ever listened too. The lyrics are both incredible and weird, especially having been sung by a guy, but yeah, listen to it. It's amazing.

Master of Puppets by Metallica: There best album by far and 1986 was their golden era in many regards.

Origin of Symmetry by muse, streamed legally here. Quite a few tracks on this albums are classics.

Muse's new album probably doesn't need advertisement, but checking it out probably won't hurt anyone. We'll see how it compares to there other stuff a few years down the line.

Ensiferum's self-titled album. They're responsible for getting me into Folk Metal.

    And Ayreon is epic!

Well, Elli already beat me to "This Binary Universe" (bastard), so I'll have to think of something else.

TOOL - 10,000 Days is pretty fucking epic. I'd recommend all of their other albums as well (particularly Lateralus). 10,000 Days, as in all of their albums, uses rather odd time signatures, very rarely using the commonplace 4/4. This makes all of their songs sound unique. Check out "Wings for Marie (Pt 1)" and the title track "10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2)". Also, look into the secret song on the album.

Dave Matthews Band - Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King. Now, if you don't like DMB already, you're not going to like this. But, as a lifelong DMB fan, I have to say this is one of their better albums. Definitely blows the fuck out of their last album (Stand Up). Try to find the version with the bonus tracks (Beachball/Little Red Bird), as those are, in my opinion, the two best tracks on an already awesome album.

    Hmm... what else?

    Ah.

Radiohead - In Rainbows. Radiohead is always amazing, they've yet to really have a bad album, but this one really stands out. Very ambient music (Great driving music in my opinion), with highly unusual beats.

I'll probably come back to this thread with new recommendations soon enough.

Edit: Oh, and Elli. I "acquired" the Sigur Rós discography and () is amazing. Haven't gotten around to listening to the rest yet, but so far I'm loving it. Kudos for the awesome recommendation, and you're forgiven for recommending BT before me.

Dude, its all amazing music, listen to hoppipola. I'd also definitely recommend downloading A Slow Riot For New Zerø Kanada.

Sorry for the necroish post, but I just remembered this thread and wanted to read/respond to the followups.

Okay, I'm not sure if anything like this already exists here, but if there's a link I'll take it. Basically, I just want to get as much music as possible, so I figure I'd start a thread where everyone posts favouriote artists, with links and genres. It doesn't take a lot of effort and if everyone contributes, this thread could become teh awesome. So, here goes.

    DUBSTEP

Lebelge Electrod - One of the best ever. Here, and here are some sweet songs.

Benga - Probably the biggest on the dubstep scene at the moment. Calls it Newstep, but it's pretty similar. YO!

Nero - Haven't heard a lot but one song in particular stands out.

Marchmellow - Not bad at all. However, does have the best Eleanor Rigby remix I've heard in a long time.

    PSY/GOA TRANCE

Psy and goa are the best types of music for some crazy whacked out acid trip. Investigate, my friends.

Space Tribe - This song says it all.

John 00 Fleming - This guy is great. Check out his compilation album 'Euphoria', there's at least two volumes. Here's a duo.

Klacid - I only recently found this gu. My mind was blown.

When it comes to Psy/Goa I have several compilation albums so I can't completely vouch for a lot of artists, having heard only a few songs from each. But I seriously recommend checking it out, it has some of the best techno I've ever heard.

    DnB/Jungle

    Ohhhhhhhh yeah

DJ Hype - Love this guy, ever since I heard these three songs.

B-complex - Wow. Props go to Zombro for introducing back in 2008. Yes, yes and yes.

Umm, too much linking for me right now. I'll do more later. Contribute guys, with anything and everything.

EDIT: WOAH! My bad, posted not in a subforum. Jenkins r stupid.... Could someone move to Music/movies/whatever?

I really can't be fucked doing a new post for this, so i'll copy and paste my old post in the Music Album thread.

    ----------------

If anyone likes and/or is interested in more of this type of music, I know a shit load of bands, all have different styles, there is quite a lot of variation within the Genre, such as 'The Evpatoria Report's' self titled album, or Golevka. Yndi Halda's 'Enjoy Eternal Bliss' or Mono's 'Hymn to the Immortal Wind' are all quite different. I equally enjoy them all, though some like Hymn to the Immortal Wind are best listened to as an album, as opposed to some which have individual songs that are excellent. Example of such would be The Evpatoria Report's 'Taijin Kyofusho'.

Jenkins: This is the previous thread. Starts way back in 2006, but people have added too it.

I'd also recommend BT's This Binary Universe specifically for you, Jenkins. Seems right down your alley, or all the others who do prefer a more electronic/trance style of music.

Thievery Corporation. You can PURCHASE their whole discography, and find something you'll like if you like DubStep. Very lounge-type stuff.
