    Black Swan

A New York City ballet company is producing Swan Lake, and director Thomas Leroy (Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Ryder) with ballerina Nina (Portman). Nina lives with Erica (Hershey), her overbearing mother and a former ballerina. Nina finds competition in new dancer Lily (Kunis). Swan Lake requires a ballerina who can play the innocent White Swan, which fits Nina, and the sensual Black Swan, which fits Lily. The dancers' rivalry changes into a bizarre friendship, and Nina begins exploring a dark side of herself.

Not so fond of the ballerina premise, but anything with both Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman will warrant a trip to a video store. Director is good, too. But still....ballerina movie?!?!

I'm not sure what to think honestly. It looks good if you like psychological movies, and I'm somewhat interested. But, like Ashaya said "ballerina movie"?

Probably will fall short of The Machinist as far as psychological thrillers go.

Considering Darren Aronofsky is one of the most talented and original directors in Hollywood, I have high hopes for this.

I'll watch anything Portman is in, at least once.

Considering Portman and Kunis are going to make out if not more, probably worth seeing for that alone.

So, I just watched this movie. It's simply incredible. Aronofsky has done a fantastic job. This movie is completely thrilling, though it gets off to a slow start. About halfway through, it starts to pick up in pace, and it doesn't slow down until the jarring finale.

I would love to say more, but I would hate to spoil this for anyone reading, as this is a movie that should be watched sans spoilers.

I think that Portman did a fantastic job, and deserves an Oscar for her performance. Also, Kunis was appropriately hawt and sexy, though her acting was much of the same fare we've seen from her before. Obligatory mention of lesbian sex scene: it was too short, and ends shockingly. Mila was very very very hot though.

Again....this is a fantastic movie that I hope you all see. 5/5

I saw it too. Holy crap it was amazing! And a total mind screw by the way. I watched it three times and I'm still not sure about the ending.

The ladies have spoken, so I guess I'll chime in:

This is straight up Oscar bait, which is to say that I found it boring (except for the aforementioned lesbian sex scene, which was pretty hot but shot tastefully).

Not just boring, but really, REALLY "Jesus Christ is this movie ever going to end" boring, which is saying something for a movie where Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis appear in skintight clothes for a large portion of it.

    Your mileage may vary.

True - I think you are completely wrong. I wasn't bored at any time at all.

Just watched it. Slow start, but it payed off in the end. Not his best work, but a good one.

Watching the metamorphosis of Portman's character transitioning from the virginal white swan and becoming the dark and sensual, wicked black swan was epic. The play coming to life through her actions and disturbed mind was gripping and a solid ending.

Spiraling descent into mind fuckery. The usual for an Aronofsky film tbh. But damn it, I love them.

Finally got around to watching it after hearing so many rave reviews. I absolutely loved it. Aronofksy's good as almost always. I absolutely loved watching Portman's character's descent into paranoia and psychosis. To quote White Rabbit

^^^^This so much. Just epic. All of the secondary characters, from Lily (Kunis) to Portman's character's mother, to Thomas the ballet director, to Winona Ryder's character were also well done. They all fulfilled their purposes in the drama well beautifully framing the absolutely out of this world performance by Portman, who made this film. She absolutely deserves an Oscar for this role.

Also hawt lesbian sex was appropriately hawt and steamy.

Just got back from watching it, and I have to say I loved it. I genuinely can't think of anything to criticise about it, with the possible exception of being really fucking grim and disturbing - a film about ballet should not feature so much squick and mind screw. Portman fully deserves her Oscar nom.

On the subject of the 'hawt lesbian sex'...eh. Portman was just too skinny (understandably), and by the time it got there, it was just a little too "WTF?" to be hot, for me.

    Hell of a film.
