    Interesting and cool: http://youtube.com/watch?v=65V4lzwWJCI

It sounds promising and no Tupac/Biggie bs which is a plus.

All I can imagine is a Violin with a fingerboard made out of gold.
They must keep a knife in the neck of the violin when things turn wrong.

I don't care much about rap, but the fact that they are modernizing an instrument, like when George Harrison grabbed a sitar. I know they are not the first to do this, but at least in this genre is impressive.

    What do you guys think?

Not usually much for 'hip hop', but I could hear the classical they draw from, Not bad all in all. It'll never be Beethoven's, but it's not half bad.

Dunno if I'd call it 'Cool' but It does qualify as 'interesting'.

Yeah, I doubt I'll go looking for it, but I'd rather hear this while trapped at a red light,
instead of something like "Soulja Boy"

    sorta interesting.

But it's just using an instrument in a new way. Just like trombones and trumpets are cool if you play in a ska band.

Here i thought it was a fannon question about the black's violin.

Known about them for a while now. I first heard of them on Fort Minor's "Remember The Name" and immediately had to check out who was laying down violin tracks in modern music. I really love alot of the "other" instruments and I look for songs and musicians who use them. Everything you hear on the radio these days is guitar, bass guitar, and drums, maybe the sax if Seeger's "Turn the Page" is on or Jethro Tull's flute. But what of the clarinet, the oboe, or heaven help us, a bassoon?!? When did you last groove to the sounds of timpani drums or a french horn? Can the Didgeridoo be used for anything other than Aboriginal tribal meetings?

I tolerate ska because at least a trumpet or trombone gets a little play but I really love those brave few who explore the limits of musical expression.

Question: What does, and I quote, "no Tupac/Biggie bs which is a plus." mean, exactly?

    What's that suppose to mean?

2Pac and BIG produced some of the best stuff that's come out of the coastlines.

I'm amused that you guys have to have the classical influences presented so bluntly to get that they're there, or to appreciate them.

It takes a nigra playing a violin for you guys to understand that rappers draw on the classics and the stuff they enjoyed/grew up with? Rofl

Listen to a song like "Let Me Ride" or "Regulate" or just sit down with Snoop's first album and you'll be absolutely bombarded, if you know anything about Funk & Parliament, with how aggressively it influenced West Coast rap.

Hell, Wu-Tang Clan took inspiration from the same sort of shit a lot of people on this site would likely be into - Anime, old samurai films, and that sort of shit.

That said, meh. I'm no fan of Classical music as is, it's calming sometimes, but otherwise forget it. This just isn't my thing.

Rappers draw on classical because Everyone draws on classical, it's actually kinda surprising that you don't hear about more classical musicians. I suppose the need for a whole orchestra would put a bit of a damper on one claiming the fame so to speak.
