I thought that the actual in-universe explanation was that Arrancar were hollows that gave up a chunk of their power in exchange for humanity. They basically rose above their monster forms.

Note how Ichigo had zero qualms about destroying the regular unnamed hollow even at the beginning of this arc.

 

Another in-universe reason is that the zanpakto[sp?] acts to purify the Hollow's soul. Also, while Hollows might eat souls, it's because they're spirits that've gone crazy from loneliness and turned bestial because the shinigami didn't get to them in time. In that sense, Hollows aren't evil bad guys, so much as they are beasts and predators. A wolf is not evil, and if it eats human flesh, it's only doing so according to it's nature.

 

Ah Custer, that is the true philosophical debate: Are the predators of humans (movie monsters) evil? Or are they acting to their nature? Does a rabbit consider a wolf evil? Morality doesn't really enter the equation unless humans are involved, and then it is just us acting out of our own preservation, with the label of evil being placed to make it easier for us to hate and kill them.

This argument of course exclude those deviants from human society who commit mass-murder, rape and torture.

 

I remember a chapter where some Arrancar made that argument and Byakuya just killed him.

I don't know what I was smoking when I was reading some of the earlier chapters, but I was under the impression that Loly and Melony died.

Kubo needs to stop making me think he killed people and then bringing them back. It's not cool.

 

It's a shonen manga. If their death wasn't shown on-screen, there's a very good chance they're still alive. And, hell, people in shonen manga survive shit that should've killed them.

As an example, there's no way in hell Alphonse would've been able to carry Edward all the way down the hill to the Rockbell's house before Ed bled out.

Yammamoto being pissed was about the only good thing in this chapter. The rest was predictable. No way was their commander/captain going to lose to those three goons, even if they were praised by Nell to be "super strong"

Well, it is every other shonen over again. The normal mooks are worthless while the commanders are super strong. >_>

I'm still wondering if the fact that the Quincy leader looks like Zangetsu is a coincidence or not.
