I especially liked the exploration of Voldemort and the Killing Curse, in the series his familiarity with it is touched on but in fanfic killing curse is seen as just any other curse or spell really. But here it says he is one of the few who can cast it reliably and with frequency which is just fascinating and serves to make voldemort a more unique wizard.

 

Earlier in the story, I was drawn in by the novelty of Petri and his work. I worried that the author would not be able to sustain my interest, once Harry hit Hogwarts. That has not been the case, especially these last few chapters.

Why Voldemort/Quirrel keeps engaging and teaching Harry. Is it merely to satisfy his curiosity, until he acquires the stone?

 

He's apparently teaching Harry incorrectly. He can't be overt against Harry, because by now Voldemort knows and understands the protection that screwed him before. So instead he's trying to sabotage Harrry.

It might be because he realized that he has some sort of connection to Harry because of the Fidelius and the Parseltongue and is trying to understand it better. Who knows what kind fo magic he's been using without Harry noticing. He might also know about him being a horcrux and then it is in his interest for Harry to be able to defend himself and be fairly powerful.

I wonder if Dumbledore's gift to Petri is part of that former part of the story where Dumbledore shows up to his house or a hint that he's figured out the fidelius charm

 

Well, this new update was just wild af. Harry sometimes feels like he's very passive in danger instead of freaking out but I don't really mind the lack of angst because there's just so much happening.

I think my favorite thing is how the plot feels pretty novel even though the seeting is still very much Harry Potter like we know it with just one new OC to derail canon. You'd think that after reading about a thousand fanfics you would seen it all but the plot here is pretty creative in my opinion.

I also like the characterization of Voldemort here. I'm not 100% sure what his plans with Harry are but it's great.

Update rate went through the roof too! I hope this will keep going like this!

 

Maybe it's because I haven't reread the earlier chapters in a while, but I've felt that as the update rate has increased, the quality of the writing has gone down as well. The characters often don't feel consistent, Harry especially, and it's hard for me to imagine them as being more than two dimensional. The dialogue sometimes feels like it's coming from the author rather than the actual speaker, or just doesn't fit the scene.
The broomracing part of this last chapter felt very out of place to me. A weird addition in an otherwise darker toned story.

That aside, the actual premise, overarching plot, and worldbuilding in general are very good. The parts outside of Hogwarts are a nice refresher, and Petri as a character really strengthens the story. He acts as a believeable, not-so-obvious, mouthpiece when it comes to exposition and magical explanations, without being infallible or entirely trustworthy.

All in all, a decent chapter in a good story. The increasing update rate has given me hope for the future.

Odd that I actually like Voldemort a bit in this fic. I agree with @MaxQuill though that the longer chapters from before seemed more coherent.

 

By a virtue of being the only good one this was the best "constructive" approach to the Stone's protections I have seen in fanfics.

 

Man, this Harry is such a trooper. Stealing dead babies from a hospital to use as food? "Well, a little weird, but hags do have to eat, don't they?"

This is such a deliciously fucked up fic lol

 

Yeah he's sure learned how to roll with the punches. "We'll get you a rabbit to practice with. Or a Muggle."

 

This fic really wanders everywhere huh. Harry travels through time, gets possessed, sits his exams, joins a coven, steals dead babies, hugs a house elf. All in 3 chapters.

 

And now does Divination.

God, I love the magic in this fic. It's so original.
