You know there came a point in the Codex Alera stories that I just could not read them anymore and decided it was a good run and I was done.

Seems like I've just hit that point in Dresden Files. I loved this series but my last hope of The Dresden Files not becoming more like the Lifetime channel was shot to hell after reading chapter 2.

So, yeah, read the book guys and tell me if Susan dies. I'll read it in that case.

    Cheers.

But thats one thing thats always set Dresden and Codex Alera apart to me. We always knew that eventually Tavi would become First Lord and somehow manage to make peace with Alera's enemies and destroy the Vord. That was fairly obvious by the end of Cursor's Fury.

Here I personally have absolutely no clue what the hell is about to happen except that Dresden is about to start blowing shit up and may god have mercy on who ever decides to get in his way.

No Harry doesn't. Does, Ebenezar? Maybe, maybe not, but my vote is on Eb doing better then the Venatori. To have survived for as long as he has doing the job that he has IMO he is probably able to make one child disappear, especially when no one else knows that there was a child that disappeared. We know that people of sufficient power can completely hide people from magical detection. Granted Eb is no where near the Aurora's level (Morgan and his protection in TC) but for hiding someone that no one is initially looking for... well who knows.

Still all of this is largely irrelevant as Susan had no way of knowing about this option at the time or even now so it's truly irrelevant. She made a ridiculously hard choice and did what looked to be the best thing for her kid so while I do not particularly like her from her point of view it really was the best thing at the time.

Hmmm, I also just remembered about the time that Harry would have found out about Maggie would be around the time that he found out about the Blackstaff stuff so he probably wouldn't have trusted him anyways, so its even more pointless.

First of all, Titania's protection lasted all of, what, a few days? Anything for the kid needs to last eighteen years, minimum. Second of all, so what? Hiding her was never the issue. It's hiding her, and also taking care of her (while she is a small child, and unable to survive alone) without revealing her. Also, it has to cover things besides people looking for her. After all, pretty much everyone in the Red, White, and Black Courts would eat her, regardless of her parentage. So you need to protect her from that.

All of which needs to be done in such a way that no one realizes that anyone with power cares about her.

Also, if any vamps get her, chances are they'll find out she's part Red. Which will raise all sorts of questions.

The point is, hiding her isn't good enough. You have to hide her, protect her, keep anyone from realizing you hiding her or protecting her, keep anyone from wondering why there's a part vamp around, and stop the random fairies, or vamps, or demons, or whatever the hell else is after kids this week from getting her. Also, you need to take care of a kid, and they require lots of money and attention, so don't let anyone see your bank account or time-table.

Oh, and while doing this, fight the war, do your job, be a wizard, and do everything else you have to do.

Also, Susan doesn't work for the Venatori. The guys she works for have magic, too. Not Senior Council, of course, but magic, nonetheless.

Nah, she's part of the Fellowship of St. Giles, and as far as I'm aware the only signs of magic they've shown are the mood tattoos. Other than that we've only seen half-vampires, who may be able to tap into the Red Court's power or may not, but at this point we haven't seen any of it.

It lasted for a few days because thats what there deal was, or thats how I understood it at the very least. IMO Eb knows how to play the long game and can be pretty damn sneaky when the times call for it. Oops on the Venatori bit, I have no clue what I was thinking there.

Keep in mind that if they played there cards right that no one would have known about the kid... If you don't know to look for something then its hard to find them. I'm not saying it would have been perfect but I'd imagine that Eb has access to alot of things that the Fellowship can only dream of, after all there is a reason why they were so happy when the White Council went to war with the Red Court.

Anyways, I'm not gonna argue about this anymore, there really isn't enough evidence either way to make a for sure pronouncement that isn't heavily influenced by opinion.

Nuhuh: for those of us who don't know what the Lifetime channel is, what exactly is your objection?

That the focus is on the relationships? This has always been the case, to some extent, in so far as Harry's relationships are his motivation in doing pretty much everything.

That Susan came back? That was inevitable, really.

That Harry has a kid? So far this appears to be done fairly well - like I say in the first point, his relationships drive his characterisation, and this one appears to be driving him in an interesting direction.

Lifetime is about women who've been abused and victimized by men. Apparently all men are hateful soulless rape machines.

White Rabbit explained Lifetime. My objection is the inevitable moment where Susan will be made a saint and Dresden will be shamed for rejecting her and not forgiving her right away, etc., etc. That is, the expected scene where Dresden is shown to be a monster for getting pissed about not knowing about his kid. And if we know Butcher, which we do, it will be Dresden himself going on a guilt trip.

    My kingdom for Lasciel.

Or she'll nobly sacrifice herself, and Dresden will go on a guilt trip.
Or the kid will die because Dresden thinks he knows better than Susan about something, and he'll go on a guilt trip.
Or both of them die because Harry makes a pig-headed decision, and he goes on a guit trip.

    The possibilities are really endless.

@Kalas: For the love of Christ, PLEASE change your avatar. It is freaking me the fuck out.

Is Dresden gonna have to burn a bitch? I think Dresden is about to burn a bitch and that makes me smile.
