Well the Borat movie finally came out a couple of days ago and it's dwarfed everything else out. I just watched the Daily Show and found out that it's on general release in the US so I wanted to know what you guys think of him (particularly if there are any Kazakhs here).

To us, he's not new. Sacha Baron Cohen has long had his weekly show on Channel 4. I personally find him absolutely hilarious, literally side-splittingly funny. But then again, I'm not jewish, gay or female. I suppose it depends how you interpret it. Is he insulting Kazakhs or laying bare flaws in some aspects of American society? I'd go for the latter.

A must see if you're not easily offended.

Ali G has made some of the funniest British comedy since Fawlty Towers and Yes Minister. I personally agree with you, he's ridiculously hilarious, and it comes as no surprise that he made Borat his primary character.

His previous movie, Ali G in da House, was equally funny, and I'm quite content with myself for owning it on DVD :p But his show is/was brilliant too, with Ali G, Borat and Bruno all being characters that keep me laughing constantly.

As far as I know, I think the Kazakh Government, or some such body, tried to sue him for 'defaming' Kazakhstan, etc. I personally treat it as a simple joke, to be laughed at, and not taken seriously, so I find the negative reactions towards him to be quite stupid. If people don't find him funny, that's a different matter...if they're ragging on him just because they feel offended by his comedy then I have no respect for them at all.

Personally I rarely find the antics of the stupid funny. Not that I am calling Sacha Cohen stupid, but he plays some characters who are. Some do find it funny and that's great for them, but it's not the style of humor I prefer.

It might be less offensive if he used a fictional country, but likely those who take offense still wouldnt like it.

I still might end up seeing it eventually. Some of my friends might drag me to it.

If he used a fictional country, it'd wouldn't be half as funny as it is now... Half the fun is his daring nature.

I've no problem with him, and do find him pretty funny. His reaction on Jon Stewart with the Jew jokes made me lmfao.

However, he's doing non-PC humor, and if he tries to dodge the criticism and not atleast bother to tell them to put some ointment on their sore assholes, he'll get knocked down in my book.

i love him, the stupid comedy is the best. The fact that people actually thought he was a reporter from Kazahkstan while making this movie is just hilarious. I can't wait to go see it tommorow.

His new movie is easily the funniest thing I have ever seen and I was not offended what so ever.

Then again I'm not of any minority so I have no reason to be but I could see how some easily offended people may take offence to it.

Its funny but I do enjoy smart humor more then just controversial humor so while I see the movie (not going to pay for it) its nothing special in my eyes.

i just saw it last night, probably one of the two or three funniest movies i've ever seen. Some of that shit i can honestly say i will never see in another movie. If you enjoy stupid comedy that doesn't take any thinking and you aren't too uptight than this is the movie for you. It's only 84 minutes and i was probably laughing for 75 of those minutes..

It's not offensive, it's a critique of American society and "Right Thinking People". I found it hilarious, but somewhat disturbing -- particularly some parts of the show (like when he gets a guy from Texas to say that we should be able to hunt Jews).

I thought it was funny when he brought up how they didn't wanna take an airplane again in case the jews decided to hijack it again.. Kind of funny shot at what some people (mostly muslims) thought about 9/11..

In wikipedia it says the gold gun he was holding was made from an Israeli company. I can't figure out if it's a subtle way for the store owner to mock Borat, a subtle way to Borat to mock the store owner, or a subtle way for the store owner to mock Jews.

Still, very very funny. Like the scene with the car salesman, the reason it was made rated R, when Borat started crying - I won't spoil it for those who haven't watched to movie.

"You mean...you are telling me that the man that put fist in my anus was...was...homosexual?"

    I nearly died there.

The Jew jokes aren't supposed to be offensive by the way - Cohen is Jewish himself, and says he is using the movie to ridicule anti-Jew sentiments.

It is funny. I find it weird how people take offence to such blatant satire and sarcasm. Such a show would not normally be funny to me, but the guy is incredibly intelligent. The situation he puts people in reminds me a lot of Louis situation. The most appealing thing about the show is that it portrays the backward opinions of certain segments of society whilst not relying on a script to do so. It is the genius that is Sacha Baron Cohen, he did it as Ali G and is achieving it as Borat. Like Caitiff, it isnt usually the sort of comedy I go for, but in this case I cannot find fault in what Sacha sets out to do with Borat.

I certainly do not believe it is one step too far, like the brass eye special, which resulted in the banning of the programme; if people are too stupid to see what the show or character is really about then they have a pretty terrible sense of humour.
