I think it would be pretty easy to do. "Some villainous group has found a way to disrupt the slayer cycle magic and has been steadily killing them all off; New Buffy is the last or one of the last living slayers."

Might even give Sarah Michelle Gellar or Eliza Dushku an opportunity to pass the torch onscreen.

 

One area that I think this new series could actually be very good for is the high school element. Buffy is so 90s and plays on all those great 90s high school cliches, using the supernatural to parody the high school experience. But these days the high school experience is very different - the social media generation. A new Buffy could do very well doing the same thing for modern high school as it did to the 90s.

 

Assuming the writers are good at actually capturing that, yes. If we get the usual cycle of TV writers imposing their vague nostalgia memories of what high school was like for them 30 years ago...

 

I could see the new protag Slayer being more university age than starting from highschool again. Was always cheesy to have actors in their mid twenties/early thirties playing high schoolers so unless they are hiring someone that young, would prefer university slayer.

 

Unless Joss Whedon's doing it, no. Do something else with monsters, but don't do Buffy. Screw all these remakes.
