Did the Psion Flayers strike 8 or so times today to try and get a cloak with no success. The only class-specific item I've gotten is the Darkblade Helm from the Sunless Cell strike.

 

Did another 30 runs yesterday, still haven't seen the Theosyion Vibrasse...

As much as I disagree that this is an MMORPG, I'm definitely getting painful Blackwing Lair/ Bloodfang Shoulders memories.

 

So I finished like 15 PvP quests in the last two days. Grinding PvP is one of the most frustrating experiences I can think of. A big part of that is the lag. There is serious lag issue in Destiny PvP, and the more you play the more apparent it becomes.

And I haven't even finished the quest chain. Fuck my life.


Having said that... play Mayhem. Even if you dislike PvP in general there is something very satisfying about having super every thirty seconds and grenade every five, as well as heavy ammo drops every minute.

 

Noty. The pvp is not why I play this game.

 

Agreed that mayhem is a ton of fun. Most fun I've had in Destiny pvp by a wide margin. I also agree with the lag complaints. As you play more and more crucible the lack of dedicated servers for those activities becomes very glaring. And it will somehow get even worse in a week or so when Iron Banner drops.

 

Second week in a row where the raid gives me absolutely nothing. Moldering Shards from the Warpriest, Golgoroth and the Deathsingers, a 300 (!!) Scout Rifle that I already had from Oryx and a Class item with less defense than what I'm using.

For comparison, 300 is literally the lowest a raid drop can be. Two weeks now I have made zero progress on my light level because RNGesus apparently doesn't like my face.

This sucks.

 

Today's daily heroic has an alternate ending if anyone is interested. No exotic reward but you do learn a bit more about the Vault of Glass and get an item to turn into the Future War Cult that may be part of a quest down the line.

 

Be advised, if you do choose to go for it, you may be screwing yourself over for a future event or questline. I personally refrained.

 

I've done it on one character and I'll keep it at that I think. If I did screw myself out of a future event of some sort I'll still have two chances down the line.

 

I just finished a quest where I had to win 5 elimination games. It took me nearly 20 games to do it. I've come to the conclusion I'm terrible at pvp or bungie just keeps putting me on the worst teams

 

Rep and I hit the dead end for the Sleeper Simulant quest earlier, not too difficult so far (esp with Reddit, lol).

For those who don't know, it's a new type of heavy. Kind of like a single shot Fusion Rifle that does huge damage, penetrates, and, when fully upgraded, can bounce off walls five times.


It also looks cool as fuck.

 

Just a note, it's not confirmed that this questline leads to the Sleeper Simulant. The community assumes it, but it's not certain.

Ugh I don't want to do any work right now. I want to be at home doing the SABER strike and getting the damn Sleeper Simulant (as underwhelming as it may turn out to be).

In other news, I finished getting all the exotic swords. They're amazing and I love them all.

Well, not suck exactly. It's a weapons that can potentially find a very niche use for which it can be good for. Overall though, it's terrible for general use.

 

They've surely got to buff the ammo count. It's pointlessly low atm.

I can see them putting a long, narrow corridor filled with enemies in every raid now though, just so they can point to it, wink and profess 'Simulant'.

 

It's not a crowd control weapon. It's basically a high-powered sniper rifle on the heavy weapon slot. It can find niche uses, as I mentioned, perhaps for quickly bringing down bosses, but it doesn't have the practicality of other heavy weapons, not to mention that it locks your exotic slot which could (and probably should) be used elsewhere.

 

Yeah, that's fine. But if they want it to be heavy sniper-like, up the damage and remove the bouncing laser.

As it stands, you'll do way more damage single target with ToM and switching to DoY when your health is low...

I don't care about pvp. At all. So to balance this weapon for pve it needs to be weighed up against other exotics and, as you say, it doesn't compete...

I just don't understand how it gets through as is.

I'd love to hear the devs describe what they were thinking specifically when making it.

You may get 4 or 5 SS shots off before DoY is reloaded again, in which case you'd switch back to it given it does higher Precision dps.

I'd wager ToM does more PDPS than both. Maybe Tlaloc too? I want to see more numbers, but as a heavy, and given its restrictive ammo, it should really do more dps than the others imo.

 

I think you have some unfair standards. Most of the exotic guns are actually pretty shit.


Let me explain. Most exotic guns have either extremely gimmicky perks, or irrelevant ones. In both cases, it's better to use a legendary gun with good perks, because more often than not the exotic perks will be interesting but not parrticularly practical.
And always remember that an exotic gun takes up your exotic slot, which a legendary does not. Whenever deciding if an exotic gun is worth using, you have to ask yourself two questions. A: "Can I afford to use this Monte Carlo over this legendary Scout Rifle with Outlaw and Firefly or this Auto Rifle with Fitted Stock and Zen Moment?"
and B) Can I afford to swap out my Exotic Sword/ToM/SUROS Regime/Black Spindle for this other exotic, or will it plummet my efficiency?"

To most of these weapons, the answer is 'no'. Most exotic weapons are as good (sometimes even worse) than legendary guns with good perks, but they take up your exotic slot. If an exotic gun is about as good as a legendary but it stops you from also using your (insert strong exotic here), then it's shit.

Exotic guns are usually made with a theme, and that doesn't always translate to good DPS perks.

Very few exotic weapons have become a must-have. Currently, the ToM is a must-have, but why? ToM is precious right now only because its gimmick matches the final two bosses of the King's Fall raid perfectly. In fact, you can be sure that it was designed with the raid in mind. That is good for now, when the raid is new and people need all the edges they can get, but ToM is not particularly useful outside of that particular raid. Soon enough, unless buffed or changed, it'll fade into obscurity as the King's Fall becomes less and less relevant.


Few exotic guns have made it into the metaphorical Hall of Fame. Can you guess them? Icebreaker and Gjallarhorn. Those two guns, in their time, were so game-breaking that they enabled players to perform above and beyond what they should, and breeze through content they'd otherwise struggle against. They too are gimmicky guns, but it just so happened that their gimmicks (rechargable sniper rounds and a rocket that spawns more rockets) were extremely good in PvE content. It got to the point were either or both were necessary if you ever wanted to complete end-game content.

Where are they now? Unplayable, rotting away in Vaults or already broken down for exotic shards. Both received some nerfs, but it wasn't the actual numbers that made them so overpowered, it was their unique perks, and Bungie couldn't change those because they were the whole point of those weapons, their theme. So they were made obsolete. You can be sure that the 'Only some Year 1 exotic weapons will get the Year 2 treatment' was a direct result of Bungie trying to find a way to take Gjallarhorn out of the picture.

It worked, and the community is better for it ("players without gjally need not apply, thanks") but it's still a silly thing to do.

That's what exotic guns are. Gimmicky weapons that, given the right circumstances, can be extremely powerful. Some accomplish this, excel and become staples. Others don't and fade into obscurity after granting players some grimoire and potentially starring in a youtube crack video.

 

I think you're criminally underselling ToM. Its dps is ridiculous, and the health drain is rendered moot if you're using it to 1shot adds.
