If a wizard/ witch can conjure an animal, why cant they temporarily conjure a human? There is no reason it should not be possible.

The conjured being need not be capable of complicated thought processes. If a conjured animal can be directed to attack someone in a duel, why not conjure the likeness of a human and use for any number of nefarious purposes instead of the conjurer taking the risk?

That a human is more complex than an animal is not a valid excuse as far as I can see. The conjured artifact does not need to eat, sleep, breath or think much like a real human, only act like one would for the reason it was created.

Most likely it is an arbitrary rule of magic. Also other than snakes what animals are conjured within canon?

Rule 34 states that if it exists, there is pornography of it.
Thus we can know that if there is not pornography of it, it does not exist.
It is my firm belief that were such pornography in existence, the fine smut connoisseurs of DLP would have brought it to the forums attention.
As this is not the case, we can conclude that humans cannot be conjured.

Birds are conjured. Large animals are regularly transfigured by professionals. There is no reason to believe it is not possible except for some unstated, arbitrary rule of magic.

I remember reading a Harry/Hedwig oneshot where Harry transfigures Hedwig into a girl. So there is some smut out there. I don't remember the name of it though.

You can't conjure souls or you simply can't conjure humans. There doesn't need to be a logical reason for it.

    Either way; No we can't!

Exactly, that isn't conjuration, it's transfiguration, T3t covered what needed to be covered but he forgot to specify this. This is the big deal here.

@OP: If I had any say over it, it'd be another one of the exceptions to Gamp's Law. As it is, I'm merely postulating that. So no, you can't.

However, you are asking two things.

Why not indeed -- but what has the likeness of a human got to do with an actual human? Voldemort does use Inferi in fights, for exactly that reason.

Sesc: Well, you could argue that Inferi are a little more of a srs bsns. If I want to be someplace desperately, but I just can't afford to miss work, I can conjure a human who looks just like me and send it to sit in my cubicle, etc etc. Not saying he needs to be equally intelligent, but yeah, if I can just conjure it, why go through with the risk of killing someone and using 'dark magic' on their body?

Anyways, I don't think we're given the mechanics of conjuration in much detail in canon. So yeah, you can't conjure humans...just because. :p

I still don't see the relevance. Of course you conjure something that looks like a human. It's called a doll. And you can animate it, to let it walk around, for example, like Dumbledore did with the statues.

But all that has nothing to do with conjuring actual humans.

Imagine all the desperate if creative 7th years conjuring up their ideal fuck-buddy- a perfectly accurate corpse for all the animation and intelligence it's going to give, but real flesh, mate.

Totally the reason JKR doesn't delve into it in the books. Too much potential for awesome extended-masturbation, especially in the RoR.

There's no doubt about it: Magic vastly increases the variety of kinky stuff you can get into. I mean, Polyjuice Potion? Self-transfiguration? Magical sex toys? Levitation charms? Christ...

On topic, I agree with Sesc. This is one of the areas where there needs to be some sort of limitation, because the alternative not only has the potential to be universe-breaking, but it's stupid in terms of potential plot points.

    Dotdotdot.

Animals can be conjured because their bodies contain the 'instincts' which allow them to survive, so to speak. A human being is not so simple. We're the accumulated experiences of however many years we've lived.

You can create something that looks 'human' but all it will be is a beast given human form. Whether or not it's 'instincts' without the knowledge of a life lived would allow it to function, well, that's doubtful.

Could be that its theoretically possible, just simply beyond the abilities of wizards. Transfiguration is harder on more complex animals: they teach invertebrates first. Humans may simply be too difficult to create in their entireity. But the fact that some human transfiguration is possible implies that the theoretical possibility remains.

    Plus, souls.

The conjuration does not need to be permanent. As such, a doll that looks and feels like a human and is capable of movement like that of a conjured animal following the conjurer's directions might just be sufficient to fulfil most of those 7th years fantasies.

I can just imagine conjuring, animating a doll that looks like my enemy and directing it to perform illegal acts. That would make it very easy for someone to frame any muggle.

    Damn........ the possibilities.............

I think that using such techniques is better than polyjuice for framing someone. All you need is some base material to transfigure and the skill to perform the transfiguration and animation magics.

    Again.......... the possibilities are endless.

Well......... Now the idea is out. Maybe we will see porn using this idea..... :facepalm

Should this thread be deleted so people don't get the idea????

But I guess if it was deleted, this would not be DLP.

I'm going to agree with Jon here - you could conjure something that looked like a human, and acted like a human might do, but it would only have basic instincts - it probably wouldn't be capable of intergrating hyperbolic functions, or postulating on the meaning of existance.

Wouldn't the conjured human end up as post-CoS Lockhart? He obliviated pretty much everything, so what you'd be left with could act similar to how he did.

Delving into the 'Lolwut question thread' style thinking.
Would it be legal to use the Imperius curse on a conjured human? They (probably) don't have a soul.
Can a Dementor kiss a conjured human and withdraw a soul?
Can I make a conjured body into my horcrux, and if so, does it act independently, or does it merely laze around like a teenager?

    Send out the Rookwood-signal!

TY for the tips. Is it right now?

No. Lockhart, while obliviated still retained the underlying knowledge of everything he had learned. While he might not have the experience associated with them, he still had the skills. I.e; Talking and Walking.

We're talking about a literal blank slate with no concept of self. Not even memory of how to move muscles.

What about conjuring dragons or other magical animals?

    .... To elaborate more:-

Can you conjure the innate magical properties of a creature, or not?
