Can the refilling charm be used on potions?

That does bring a funny idea to mind. If you repeatedly use the refilling charm on a bottle of wine, each time the wine will get slightly worse. Not just worse in the sense that it tastes worse each time, but worse in the sense that it will shift through a sequence of increasingly inferior wines.

I could see something like that fitting into to the pastiche flavoured magic Rrowling created.

Alternatively, it could result in a better wine.

If duplicated objects deteriorate faster, this seems to be saying that the natural ageing process is accelerated, and thus wear and tear, rust and decay etc. will magically accumulate faster than they would naturally.

But wine is different from most objects in that it improves with age (at least for certain types of wine). So you're basically speeding up the maturing process. Instant aged wine.

Barty Jr. certainly wouldn't have had to steal Polyjuice ingredients if he could have gotten a bottomless flask instead.

Though such deductions are not always the right answer. JKR's world is not that logical.

This sounds quite solid. Thanks once again, Taure!

As for that quote you posted, Sesc, the keywords there are 'emptying bottles'. I don't believe they are completely empty or that is how I read it. So he just increased the quantity of what is already there.

The quote from JKR about overriding mundane nature vs magical nature pretty much explains it, I think. Vanishing a potion is a completely different thing to increasing the quantity without damaging the product.

Then there is the common sense approach. Can you imagine if Flamel just needed to keep a little Elixir of Life in a bottle and just keep casting the refilling charm? Talk about broken, right?

No, it doesn't work on potions. I believe we can say that quite comfortably.
