Slash is not a problem for me, as long as it is a subplot. When the whole story revolves arounds Harry buggering draco, then i regard the story as shit.
I have read a few Good slash stories in the past, and if I feel a story is GREAT i will read it. However if there is neither plot, nor charcter development, only pwp slash, i will stay 20,000 miles away from it.

 

I agree with Sepanto. I dont mind slash as long as it is not constantly thrown in your face, as long as the fic is good so can I read it but if it is only about the slash then I wont go near it...

 

I'm currently trying to teach myself to like H/G cause all fics are that these days. That is hard enough, there is no way I can read slash ever...(if its an OC then its fine, not fussed, when its a character from JK's world then its not happening.)

 

I used to read slash if it wasn't an emo, weakling, pussy harry. There is one story i liked as harry kicked ass and was only slightly wimp! but it never updated so i just about gave slash up.

 

The first 3 (or 4?) parts of the Tea series were pretty entertaining. But after he actually got to the sex, it all degredaded into one bland sex scene after another.

 

I can't read anything that has slash in it. No matter how little I just will stop reading.

 

It mostly depends on the Fic itself. In case the fic is heavilly constructed on Slash I might just leave the fic, regardless of its quality storyline.
There are good fics out there that involve slash, however, the romance plays there a little part, in this kind of fics I mostly ignore the slash, continue reading and enjoy the storyline.

 

Erm you do realize that a certain fic which is infamous on this board also has Harry killing Voldemort like that, don't you?

 

I don't really like slash if it's man on man but for some reason I like girl on girl, I don't know what that means and I don't care it's just that,
if a story has man/man in it iI can't read it no matter how much it is in the background iI just can't, girl on girl no problem

I have only looked at a few slash fics. Actually, I only made it through a few paragraphs of each before I started lmao, revolted, and hit the back button. I quickly realized that I could not stomach reading crap like that. Draco and George making out and tearing each other's clothes off... YUCK. I don't think I would want to read slash in any book, be it HP, ff, or a common novel, but for some reason, HP characters as homosexuals fills me with a feeling of deep aversion. Funny thing is, I fully support gay rights, gay marriage, and anything else they want to do. I have gay friends. But I flipped out reading HP slash.

Like I said, I only looked at a few when I first opened my site and was searching for content a couple of years ago, but I accidently stumbled across one I rather liked. Ancient blood magic happens when Draco and Harry both fall from thier brooms in a quidditch accident and are impaled on a broken goal hoop. Thier blood mixes at the precise moment of death, and they are bound in spirit by magic. (Dumbledore revives them) It's totally emo, there's no sex (tho I never finished reading the story past about 11 chapters) it's very tasteful, and well-written. Not my fav thing in the world, but it shows there might be a few I can tolerate, as long as sex is not involved or described. Outside of this one story, I have to say I despise slash and it grosses me out. I'd rather not take the chance of reading something nasty, hoping it might be one of the ok ones. I just don't read it at all. Not even as a sub-plot. It jolts me right out of the story. I just read a normal fic which ends with Draco forcing a big fat kiss on Harry, just to piss Harry off, and it ruined the whole story for me because I found it deeply disturbing and, well... wrong.

 

I can read slash when its muted, not essential to the story, is not graphic, and/or badly written; as in the story starts out and 5 minutes in, Harry's cleaning out Draco's/Snape's mouth. (insert various sexual positions, stir well, chill, enough to kill several people)

 

I can ignore background stuff, like there's this one I forget the title of, where he's a necromancer, and half demon.

It's even got slash Harry/Harry if I remember right, but it's skippable, and it's not all uber romantic bullshit.

Granted I kept up with it early on in my ff life when it was a bitch to find anything not H/G, but still.

Now when it's Harry/male + ultra romance... I can't read it period. There's nothing romantic about Harry making/being made to shit funny for a week or two.

 

IMHO, one of the very best stories I have ever read is (slash or not)"Secrets" by Vorabiza. It's a 7th year fic, does the whole Horcrux thing, "final battle" scene is pretty good. I think it's a featured story on both HP Fandom and the Hex Files.

 

I agree wholeheartedly with you. I abhor Ginny and Harry being together and it's so frustrating because *everything* I read is either that couple or Harry and Hermione or it's slash and I'm becoming discouraged. I've read the first couple of chapters of an awesome story by Opalish but when I found out it was Harry and Ginny I dropped it like a bad habit. It's something about the whole 'going out with my best friend's little sister' that turns me off to that couple. And Hermione is such a nag that her and Harry together also turns me off. And I'm honestly trying to read one without my stomach twisting but it's not happening.

But anywho, back on topic. No, I can't read slash. I can't ignore the couples that I hate in *any* fic because it's apart of the fic. Even if the author tells me the pairing or romance will take a back seat I still can't read it. I just mostly read H/OC, which is so hard to find well written and recently, Harry and Angelina because of K-writer's awesome fic Lessons. But finding more than a couple of H/A? Forget it.

 

Actually, I have stomached a few slash fics...only they were all of the Harry/Harry variety.
