Yes, I'm actually aware of The Avengers but know nothing on it. The time skip can't be anything but a tool to set up Captain A with the rest of these superheroes.

The only comic I have read in it's entirety is Spiderman and before Steve Rogers jumped from the car to the plane, Peggy tells him to "Go get them" almost becoming Mary Jane.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that soldiers are allowed to just drop their guns and take the enemy's like that.

Besides, they barely knew how they worked, and I imagine they would've wanted to take any intact ones they find for their own R&D rather than put them straight into the hands of soldiers. I don't see this as a particularly hard pill to swallow.

Who says his body was destroyed?

I assumed it indicated he was frozen, and somehow his super soldier serum enhanced physique allowed him to survive the dethawing process.

Who said anything about dropping their guns? They would be bringing the futuristic weapons with them on the mission as they'd obtained them from previous missions. As far as R&D of course they'd want to study them, but they don't need several to study. The prison break scene alone would have given them enough weapons to study for R&D purposes unless they encountered different models later. They raided how many bases after that? Surely after the objective was completed they would grab a few, and its not like they'd need many to equip their team. So yea, I found it tough to swallow.

Eh, I don't know. Nor do I care enough to pursue it further. It's a minor issue in an otherwise good movie. Though I did think of some plausible fanon explanations.

    1) Maybe having to find new units once they ran out of ammunition (since they don't have possession of the Cosmic Cube to recharge them) was viewed as too much of a hassle.
    2) Maybe the guns had some kind of ID lock or self-destruct feature -- a little high-tech for WWII, but this is HYDRA. The feature might not have been in the ones captured in the rescue, but it could have been implemented later to prevent it from happening again.
    3) Maybe the higher-ups banned taking them for some kind of morale purpose ("we don't need to take their fancy new guns, we can win this with good ol' American M1s and grit").

If you're really looking for a canon answer, there may be a source... they usually make novelizations of these kind of movies. They're in those shitty Wal-Mart book sections all the time. When I'm bored and flipping through the pages for a while, I've found that sometimes they answer questions like these in them, since the medium isn't as limited. Maybe there's an answer to this one in there.

Thanks, might check into that. Like I said I could see there being a reason, it just annoyed me because they didn't give one. This left me trying to come up with some excuse for it in my mind and then shooting down that reason later. Best one I had was your #2 until one of the American soldiers used one of the Hydra guns in the last base. So yea, hopefully the book explains it.

Honestly, I would almost expect the stubborn #3. "We don't need their fancy-schmancy weapons to get this done!"
