Now Scott I'm not saying your obvious homophobia is as a result of repressed desires and a whole rivers worth of de nile. I'm just saying your avatar is a purple unicorn and a rainbow.

    I'm just saying.

While not quite as zealous as Scott, I do agree: the OP used a poor choice of words there. But if anyone really is rating the story a 1 based on slash alone, or without reading it, well...huge cunt move.

OP: it's been debated many times over in many threads, but again: Harry/Ginny was not nearly as sudden as people might like to believe. Also, any Harry/homie pairing will never make more sense than any Harry/female pairing - unless that female is related to Harry.

If we're going to throw out wild declarations, I believe that you just said that to get people to read the fic out of sheer "lolwut NOT POSSIBLE" outrage. I think you succeeded.

On topic: I liked it. An interesting concept filled with interesting characters, though I will agree with NMB on the romance seeming shoehorned in, and largely unnecessary.

    4/5

The only thing I really have a problem with is that Harry only seems to be in the story as a part of the romance. Beyond that, it's not really a story about him.

I'd call it a 3/5 for some good writing. I especially liked the poetry we see written by Remus' writer friend. Yeah, the one who got up to crazy shit with dead-Sirius.

Edit: In fairness, I guess Harry is also in the story to interact with Remus and Tonks.

Edit 2: removing info for those who made it to page 2 without checking out the story first.

Sam Storyteller is proabbly the only person (bar nmb, who still hasn't gotten around to it) who could make me read slash. Been a few years since I read it, but 4/5.

Sam paints a delightfully depressing world. :>

I really enjoyed this. Interesting concept, decent writing, and I don't mind slash. Nice rec, 4/5 for me.

Yeah, I've heard of spoiler tags, but by the second page of a For Review thread, an honest review shouldn't be a spoiler, imo. If you were going to read the story, you already should have.

    Just my two cents.

Now, for anyone who actually made it to my review before deciding whether or not to read the story.. my apologies.

Well in that case, I can see why it was pointed out. By my formatting, posts 21 and above are on page 2.

Regardless, I edited the original post to remove the spoiler. Cheers.

Not a bad fic. It's a bit bland in some places for me, but the characters carried the story well enough to be enjoyable. Though NMB got it right when he said the romance felt shoehorned in, which might be more the fault of the canon characterizations being so flat than Copperbadge's doing. The author did fairly well for they had to work with.

    3.5/5 rounded up to 4.

I agree with it being bland. It seems like a few parts were forced in, as if the author had a checklist of events that had to happen, regardless of natural flow of the plot.

I look at slash as if it's just another terrible cliche. Usually its a quick close of the story if its the equivalent of heir!Harry-with-many-names.

But sometimes despite all odds, it is written in such a (believable?) way that you tolerate it. Not the case with this story, but it could have been much worse.

I give it a 3/5. Not good enough for the Library, just fairly average when you take into account everything the story has to offer. I wouldn't recommend it though.

The slash argument comes up like every 2 months. The common consensus is that there is no actual 'rule' saying no slash. The story just has to be fucking amazing by general vote to get in, like 6/5 stars. The same thing could be said with Harry/Ginny stories, and occasionally those do sneak in so anything is possible. The problem is that nearly every slash story is graphic, while pretty much all the amazing 5/5 (normal) stories have romance, but not really graphic at all. It's all about the author, and unless the slash is written by one of DLP's prestigious authors (as if that will ever happen) I doubt we will ever see a slash story in the library.

@Lord Anarchy. The Ginny hate is not as strong as it was. The slash hate is still in the red.

Also. No slash in the Library?

That author I think is the only one who would have had a chance with a longer story. As to this story...didn't really catch my eye. I got a few chapters in. Maybe 3/5 or a 4/5, but won't rate now. Might pick it up later and see.

EDIT: @T3t. I thought I implied that? Guess not. Sorry. But, yeah, I meant to say that both were written by the same author and this story had a half-decent chance because of it.

This is by the same author, and I don't recall there being anything other than a mention of SB/RL. Hardly explicit, really.

    Quoted for fucking truth

I think it's a 2/5 because the dialogue isn't flowing and I can't look past it(maybe because I'm drunk). Besides the Slash annoys me.

I read this a while back, before I was really familiar with the standard tropes and cliches used in HP fanfic, and I remember it as a solid but unexceptional story. It was a little too bland to merit Library status, but it'd fit right in with most of the Recycling Bin fics.

It's on the upper end of the 3/5 range. It's possible to skip entirely over the sex scenes and not miss any plot, which is how I read it.

The romance begins to filter in through moments like these: by fanfiction's standards, it's actually quite good, regardless of whether tab A is going in slot A or B.

This story...well, it didn't particularly stand out, but had no real flaws. I'd normally give it a three or four out of five, perhaps leaning towards a three due to the lack of plot. But the author has seamlessly woven a number of different strands together which speak of painful-to-read godawful slash cliche. For that, I'm rating this as a definite four.

It would have been a five if the plot had been more Harrycentric, and featured a more proactive protagonist.

From a stylistic point of view, the only thing which jarred was the overpropensity of "show, don't tell" violations.
