As soon as montgomery said he planned to retire I knew he was involved in the plot against the mom.

Its a shame he had to leave but he left in an :awesome way.

I'm just curious how they will handle the replacement for montgomery. I don't want another sympathetic leader. I want some corrupt cop who will make the work place a hostile enviroment. Now that their an exclusive group with a purpose they need a enemy.

Shit seemed to be cooling down too fast. After Montgomery's shoot out I was like... "Wait. Season finales always exit on a cliff hanger...GODDAMMIT! Either Castle or Beckett is getting shot!"

    And then it happened.

Finale was overall rather good. The forth session will be realised, so we all know that Kate will be okay and probably won't remember Rick confession. It's rather regular think in shows now-days with Bones in 4 season finale was similar. There are many pairs of men and women, who everybody see that's is some romantic tension but they are never together. Castle and Beckett are the same. I'm myself though that, there were someone inside team connected to this case similar to Mentalist and Red John having someone in the office first was with this secretary and then framing of Hightower, I would not be surprised if he himself work in CBI. Sorry about a bit of Mentalist, also good show but without topic on DLP. It was logical assumption that it was boss because others were too young. Anybody here also thinks that Kate's mum was hot!? I could not find actress name, but she looks, a lot like Kate so I would not be surprised if Stana Katic also played it.

    Just now watched it.

Awesome. Parts were predictable and whatever, but, still.

    Awesome.

I got about half way through that paragraph before going 'wtf'?

Then I looked at your name and sighed. Why are you back? Go away like you did before.

Given that this show has 8 pages of commentary I assume it's worth watching? When it first came out I remember reading the description and thinking it was silly to have a novelist help solve crimes even if they were copying his books and didn't give it a second though. I watched Firefly a while after that, and the actor who plays in both shows impressed me, but it seems to me Firefly didn't hinge on the Captain but on a lot more than that.

Bottom line just how good is this show? As a general rule I'm overly fond of "cop shows" of any kind, so that's one point in it's favor, but where's the focus? Like Dragnet on the crimes itself? Like NCIS on the dynamic between the cops? Like Monk where it's meant to be comedy and parody? I know none of those are likely apt comparisons, but I'm starting to feel like checking out another show sometime soon so I'm curious.

A really good cast and script can make any premise work -- is it really that good here or is this just something fun that people watch to pass the time?

Edit: I realize belatedly I've been drinking, so yeah, hopefully I didn't say anything too stupid because I'm not sure why I'm typing this edit either, hm.

It's a pretty solid mix. On the crime-of-the-week episodes, the crimes do have a good focus, but it's how they affect the day-to-day character stuff that sells it, not to mention how the show goes about detailing the weird and wonderful little subcultures of New York the cases take them to. The comedy is a mix of those weird places, the funny suspects moments, and the reactions of the characters, with their own little running jokes and the like throughout. It's not all comedy though, and does have its dramatic moments and episodes, which are pretty damn good in their own right if you're invested enough.

But it's got character, charm, wit and a nice healthy dose of UST in the main leads if you don't mind a bit of that. It might take a bit to get going for you, but I think it's probably my favourite "cop" show right now. I recommend it - can't hurt to try.

Yeah it's not a great cop show ("The Wire" is the most awesome cop show but you've probably already seen it), what it does have is Nathan Fillion who has his charm and wit, there are funny moments, mostly unpredictable episodic plots (but after some time they become predictable in their unpredictability), a hot cop with a tough exterior that the writer starts to break through, etc.

The show is one of those feel good warm shows with some humor thrown in between, like White Collar if you've seen that, which is carried by the awesome chemistry between the actors rather than an amazing plot.

Good finale. Didn't see Montgomery as the third cop coming and shame it's his last episode. I hope they will find interesting replacement for him.

I was also thinking who is the big bad and I've got one theory - it's the Mayor. Firstly, from what Montgomery said it must be someone powerful, but what I find far more interesting is his involvement in this series already. It's him who put Castle with Beckett and more so Rick is using their friendship from time to time which makes him unseen, yet somehow involved in the series, character.

I think it would be nice ending of this show if Castle would put in a jail the man (woman? I don't remember if they ever said it was male) who let him be involved in this case in a first place.

Just caught the Pilot episode of this show -- not bad. For some reason I especially liked the Father & Daughter relationship they had going on. Maybe it was refreshing or something compared to what you usually get. On the other hand the show made me feel a little bit like I do when I try to watch Psych (not a fan of that one).

There was more suspension of disbelief than I would have liked regarding how much they let Castle get away with, but I guess since it's his show that's to be expected. The lady cop struck me as a weak character whose primary purpose was to highlight how awesome Castle was, though she did have 1-2 good bits as well.

All in all I'd give it a 4/5 if I was rating it like a story. I do think Fillion was better in Firefly, but he does a dang good job in the lead role here as well. They gave him some great parts that let him shine and it made the episode shine along with him in those places. Glad DLP convinced me to give it a go, though I doubt I'll follow it too closely unless they have long story arcs to enjoy.

The characters, especially the father & daughter dynamic are what makes this show. I don't watch it for the 'mysteries' or police stuff.

Right. I watch it for the characters as well. It's more a show about relationships and people who just so happen to solve crimes than it is a "whodunnit".

If nothing else stick with it for the first two parter and the second one as well. Those are probably some of my favorites- both for the stories and a bit of comedy as well. However, they might take it a bit over the top in some episodes. I'm no bleeding heart- but Stana Katic (Beckett) and Fillion's banter/reactions/ flirting damn near makes the show for me (probably because of my star crush for the former). The bromance between the other two detectives (who's name's escape me at the time) is also very entertaining, and I feel doesn't really start until mid-season 2. As everybody else has said, it's a show of character not story depth.

Definitely backing up the 'show of character not story depth' bit. This show, when it first came out, seemed to me to be kinda corny and awkward, and the only reason I watched past the pilot was because of my huge man-crush on Fillion. It's been a while, but if I remember right, I really started enjoying the Castle-Beckett dynamic and everything else around the third or fourth episode.

Similar to Cheddar, watched the first couple of episodes tonight and I'm really enjoying it. It's not deep, meaningful tv thus far, but it's fun and well acted. Definitely going to keep up with it, although it's going to take me ages to catch up sadly.

Overall liked it. Stana was hot, Nathan was love-able, all is right with the world.

New captain's a bitch, gonna take a while to adjust to her. I do like the reveal that Castle now has his own murder board at home. And, of course, Beckett's big reveal at the end about remembering everything.
