Okay, I was bummed out by Season 1, but Season 2 was excellent. The Trevor, Alucard, Sypha dynamic ended up being legitimately great.

The Isaac reimagining was spectacular and really looking forward to where they go from here with him in Season 3. I hope they don't regurgitate the Curse of Darkness "revenge on Hector" plot though. One of my least favorite Castlevania games.

Carmilla was a real standout as well. They really elevated her from her bland roles in the game. I will be sad if she doesn't ride a giant skull at some point though. Get dat bitch a skull please, Netflix.

 

The Dracua vs Alucard/Trevor/Sypha was fucking gorgeous. Well animated and beautifully concluded.

I thought S2 was bad. Should have been 2 episodes shorter, had almost no development of the protagonists other than reading their character sheets, and the vampire plot just dragged. You basically only got the good old Ellis writing with Godbrand who was too good for this world

Lenore wasn't actually playing 4d chess, Carmilla kills herself for... I dunno... reasons, Isaac and Hector's arcs go nowhere, and the pseudo big bad is a comically evil giant skeleton

Oh well. The animation was glorious.

 

I enjoyed the season well enough, but if felt quite rused and would have been better off with more episodes devoted to the plot points.

 

Yeah... it was fun, but it left me wondering if they changed writers or were told they'd only get one more season or... something.

Overall thoughts is on the series is the original two seasons are amazing, the third one is a good follow up, but this fourth one feels all over the place and poorly paced. Also the trio's fighting skills are always perfectly tuned to maximum drama/cool factor in every single fight, leaving their 'power level' incredibly inconsistent.

 

They changed writers because over 60 women came forward alleging some pretty fucked up behaviour on Warren Ellis' part. Nothing illegal, but really really scummy.

It left a bad taste in my mouth, I really enjoyed the first two seasons. But given this, and the lacklustre reviews of Season 4, I might just not bother and never rewatch it.
