This is an idea that I got into my head ever since I read Shezza's Resitance of Azkaban.

Only weeks after Voldemort lost his body after the attack on the Potters so was he brought back by the Death Eaters. He allows the wizarding world to think that he is dead while searching for Harry Potter but he cant find him because only Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall know were Harry is located and the blood wards stop any tracking spells from finding him.

After 2 years of both searching for Harry Potter and building up his strength so does Voldemort attack. Within a year does he rule the British Isles.

Minerva McGonagall goes to get Harry when he is 4 years old to save him and take him to America but is killed by Death Eaters leaving Harry alone in some american city.

Jump forward to when harry is around 16 to 20.

Voldemort rules the British Isles and no one have the courage to fight him exapt the Order of the Phoenix that is viewed as terrorists.

Harry is drawn into the war when Death Eaters notice him and attack, before the attack so did he not care about Voldemort because he was in europe while harry was in america.

Harry should be very skilled and powerful for his age but not a match for voldemort or dumbledore yet.

Just a few questions

-Who's blood is used in the ritual, without harry's shouldn't voldemort be weaker because it's not his 'greatest foe' or something. Or is it another means of reserection?

-Who helps in the ritual? Wormtail, after running from sirius instead of hiding, or going straight there without the confrontation with sirius? Bellatrix, instead of finding the longbottoms. And if so, how does she find Voldemort?

-Are there repurcussions from harry's absense from hogwarts? Hermione killed by troll, Ginny killed by Riddle (and if so, what stopped the young riddle from gaining full power)? Sirius kissed by the dementors, or did he stay away from hogwarts alltogether because Harry wasn't there? Did he escape azkaban at all?

-Does Harry still go to hogwarts or does he study indepentently/from a different source,

Overall, definitely a good an interesting idea for an AU, it would be a great read IMO.

 

Seems too similiar to resistance of Azkaban. My question is, when McGongall gets killed while transporting harry why don't they kill harry as well?

 

Lets see if I can clear some things up.

The blood used in the ritual is one of Voldemort's enemies.

Lucius Malfoy performs the ritual after he is cleared in his trial.

The troll would not be let in because voldemort would had already taken control of the British Isles. Hermione is a muggle born and not allowed in hogwarts. Ginny would not write in the diary because Voldemort would not just give away a Horcrux. Sirius does not escape Azkaban, he might have been killed once Voldemort took power.

Harry goes to Salem or some other american magical school.

The reason why McGongall was killed and not harry is because she put him down in some bushes/shadows or something similar and the Death Eaters dident know that she had harry, they were hunting her for who she was not because she had taken harry.
